Direct extraction of transversity and its accompanying T-odd distribution from the unpolarized and single-polarized Drell-Yan processes

The Drell-Yan (DY) processes with unpolarized colliding hadrons and with the single transversally polarized hadron are considered. The possibility of direct (without any model assumptions) extraction of both transversity and its accompanying T-odd parton distribution functions (PDF) is discussed. For DY processes measurements planned at GSI the preliminary estimations demonstrate that it is quite real to extract both transversity and its accompanying T-odd PDF in the PAX conditions

Exclusive quasielastic production of dijets at hadronic colliders

We critically re-examine the calculation of central production of dijets in quasi-elastic hadronic collisions. We find that the process is not dominated by the perturbative contribution, and discuss several sources of uncertainties in the calculation.Comment: 4 pages, talk given at Diffraction-2008, La Londe-les-Maures, France, 9-14 Sept 200

Even harmonic generation in isotropic media of dissociating homonuclear molecules

Isotropic gases irradiated by long pulses of intense IR light can generate very high harmonics of the incident field. It is generally accepted that, due to the symmetry of the generating medium, be it an atomic or an isotropic molecular gas, only odd harmonics of the driving field can be produced. Here we show how the interplay of electronic and nuclear dynamics can lead to a marked breakdown of this standard picture: a substantial part of the harmonic spectrum can consist of even rather than odd harmonics. We demonstrate the effect using ab-initio solutions of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation for HH2_2+^+ and its isotopes in full dimensionality. By means of a simple analytical model, we identify its physical origin, which is the appearance of a permanent dipole moment in dissociating homonuclear molecules, caused by light-induced localization of the electric charge during dissociation. The effect arises for sufficiently long laser pulses and the region of the spectrum where even harmonics are produced is controlled by pulse duration. Our results (i) show how the interplay of femtosecond nuclear and attosecond electronic dynamics, which affects the charge flow inside the dissociating molecule, is reflected in the nonlinear response, and (ii) force one to augment standard selection rules found in nonlinear optics textbooks by considering light-induced modifications of the medium during the generation process.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

Constrained superpotentials in harmonic gauge theories with 8 supercharges

    Get PDF
We consider D-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories with 8 supercharges (D<6, N=8~\mathcal{N}=8) in the framework of harmonic superspaces. The effective Abelian low-energy action for D=5 contains the free and Chern-Simons terms. Effective N=8\mathcal{N}=8 superfield actions for D<4 can be written in terms of the superpotentials satisfying the superfield constraints and (6-D)-dimensional Laplace equations. The role of alternative harmonic structures is discussed.Comment: LATEX file, 9 pages, version published in Teor. Mat. Fi

    Abelian symmetries in multi-Higgs-doublet models

N-Higgs doublet models (NHDM) are a popular framework to construct electroweak symmetry breaking mechanisms beyond the Standard model. Usually, one builds an NHDM scalar sector which is invariant under a certain symmetry group. Although several such groups have been used, no general analysis of symmetries possible in the NHDM scalar sector exists. Here, we make the first step towards this goal by classifying the elementary building blocks, namely the abelian symmetry groups, with a special emphasis on finite groups. We describe a strategy that identifies all abelian groups which are realizable as symmetry groups of the NHDM Higgs potential. We consider both the groups of Higgs-family transformations only and the groups which also contain generalized CP transformations. We illustrate this strategy with the examples of 3HDM and 4HDM and prove several statements for arbitrary N.Comment: 33 pages, 2 figures; v2: conjecture 3 is proved and becomes theorem 3, more explanations of the main strategy are added, matches the published versio

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE IN USING COMBINED FERROTHERAPY WITH L-CARNITINE IN STANDARD TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEART FAILURE WITH REDUCED LEFT VENTRICLE EJECTION FRACTION WITH CONCOMITANT IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a global public health problem. Despite all the technical advances available in modern cardiology, a medical strategy for the treatment of CHF has been and remains the main focus of therapeutic intervention. А particular problem is the treatment of CHF with concomitant pathology. The modern pharmacological strategy for the treatment of patients with CHF and iron deficiency anemia, except iron preparations, must take into account the use of agents that have antihypoxic, antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing effects, and at the same time regulatory effect on the metabolism of physiologically active compounds to improve the condition of patients. Therefore, this study is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of iron deficiency anemia’s correction, identify and compare the effect of oral ferrotherapy and combined use of ferrotherapy with L-carnitine on clinical and instrumental parameters of patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction of left ventricle as possible variants of additional therapy to standard treatment.Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a global public health problem.
