The use of various organic solvents to tailor the properties of Ibuprofen-glucosamine HCl solid dispersions

A fast release dosage form is desirable to improve the absorption of poorly water soluble drugs. Ibuprofen (IBU) is a BCS class II drug that exhibits poor dissolution rate in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The aim of the present study is to use various organic solvents to prepare solid dispersions of IBU in the presence of glucosamine HCl (GL), which acts as a carrier to enhance the dissolution of ibuprofen. Different ratios of ibuprofen and glucosamine were dissolved in various organic solvents to obtain the solid dispersions of ibuprofen-glucosamine mixtures. The physic-chemical/solid state analysis of the samples investigated using SEM, DSC, FT-IR and XRPD, particle size analysis and in vitro dissolution studies showed that the type of solvent has a big influence on the dissolution. Ibuprofen-glucosamine solid dispersions obtained from acetone produced better dissolution compared to that of other organic solvents. The effect of water in binary mixtures of acetone or ethanol was also investigated and the results showed that when the ratio of acetone to water was 75:25, the highest dissolution was obtained. Solid state analysis ruled out any chemical interaction between the dug and carrier even in the presence of various organic solvents which indicates a good stability of the solid dispersions to enhance the dissolution rate of ibuprofen. It was also investigated via XRPD analysis that the ibuprofen retained its crystallinity without any adverse effect on the dissolution rates

EFFECT OF POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL-6000 ON CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND DEGRADABILITY OF WHITE GRAPE POMACE IN BUFFALOES

ABSTRACT An experiment was carried out to study the effect of Polyethylene Glycol 6000 (PEG-6000) inclusion on chemical composition and degradability of dry matter (DM) and crude Protein (CP) of white grape pomace (WGP) in buffaloes. WGP contains some antinutritional factors such as tannins that may cause to decrease its feeding values. Some tanninification agents like Polyethylene glycol (PEG) can enhance the feeding value of tanniniferous feeds. PEG inclusion was done at 4 levels. The nylon bag technique was used to determine the rate of degradability of DM and CP with 3 rumen-fistulated Azeri buffalos. Results showed that DM content of white grape pomace (WGP) decreased with PEG addition. PEG addition was cause to decrease total tannins and total phenols of WGP. According to observations a fraction (rapidly degraded fraction) of DM content of WGP increased between treatments significantly (P<0.05). Also effective degradability (ED) of CP content of WGP decreased significantly (P<0.05). Different tannins in various plant samples may vary not only in total content but also in their ability to affect degradation, and to bind to proteins or fiber. Totally degradability results showed that PEG addition increased DM degradability values and enhanced soluble proteins of WGP

Dermanyssus gallinae in layer farms in Kosovo: a high risk for salmonella prevalence

Background The poultry red mite (PRM), Dermanyssus gallinae (D.g.) is a serious ectoparasitic pest of poultry and potential pathogen vector. The prevalence of D. g. and the prevalence of Salmonella spp. within mites on infested laying poultry farms were investigated in Kosovo. Findings In total, 14 populated layer farms located in the Southern Kosovo were assessed for D. g. presence. Another two farms in this region were investigated 6 months after depopulation. Investigated flocks were all maintained in cages, a common housing system in Kosovo. A total of eight farms were found to be infested with D. g. (50%) at varying levels, including the two depopulated farms. The detection of Salmonella spp. from D. g. was carried out using PCR. Out of the eight layer farms infested with D. g., Salmonella spp. was present in mites on three farms (37.5%). Conclusions This study confirms the high prevalence of D. g. in layer flocks in Kosovo and demonstrates the link between this mite and the presence of Salmonella spp. on infested farms

Phytoremediation of domestic wastewaters in free water surface constructed wetlands using Azolla pinnata

Two constructed wetlands, one with Azolla pinnata plant (CW1) and the other without (CW2) for treating domestic wastewaters were developed. Fifteen water parameters which include: Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Total Phosphorus (TP), Total Nitrogen (TN), Ammoniacal Nitrogen (NH3N), Turbidity, pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Iron (Fe), Magnesium (Mg), Manganese (Mn), and heavy metals such as Lead (Pb) and Zinc (Zn) were analyzed using standard laboratory procedures. The experiments were conducted in two (dry and wet) seasons simultaneously. Results showed considerable reductions in all parameters and metals including Zn in CW1 compared with CW2 in the two seasons considered while Pb and Mn were not detected throughout the study. Zn concentration levels reduced significantly in both seasons just as removal efficiencies of 70.03% and 64.51% were recorded for CW1 while 35.17% and 33.45% were recorded for CW2 in both seasons. There were no significant differences in the removal efficiencies of Fe in both seasons as 99.55%, 59.09%, 88.89%, and 53.56% were recorded in CW1 and CW2 respectively. Azolla pinnata has proved effective in domestic wastewater phytoremediation studies

    Twisted sectors in three-dimensional gravity

Twisted sectors --solutions to the equations of motion with non-trivial monodromies-- of three dimensional Euclidean gravity are studied. We argue that upon quantization this new sector of the theory provides the necessary (and no more) degrees of freedom to account for the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.Comment: An unnecessary restriction removed.
