    Tandem steerable running gear

    Get PDF
Characteristics of steering assembly for vehicle designed to move large components of space flight vehicles are presented. Design makes it possible to move heavy and bulky items through narrow passageways with tight turns. Typical configuration is illustrated to show dimensions of turning radius and minimum distances involved

Composite aircraft structure having lightning protection

    Get PDF
A lightning protection system for advanced composite aircraft structures consisting of a sandwich structure including two layers of aluminum foil separated by a layer of dielectric material. The sandwich structure is applied to the surface of the composite aircraft structure desired to be protected from lightning strike damage thereby confining damage to the sandwich structure which can be removed and replaced

International Law - Meaning of the Term Declaration of War as Used in a Time Charter

    Get PDF
A time charter provided that either party should have a right to cancel if war is declared against any present NATO countries. . . . Respondent-owners, having invoked this clause shortly after the Suez crisis erupted into open warfare, contended that a speech delivered by Egyptian President Nasser constituted a declaration of war. The speech in question, which was delivered to a large public gathering in Cairo, broadcast throughout Egypt and subsequently published, declared in part, We shall fight as we have always said in a total war. It urged the people to fight and never surrender. In libels for breach of the charter, held, libels dismissed. The speech constituted a declaration of war within the intended meaning of the cancellation clause. Navios Corporation v. The Ulysses II, (D.C. Md. 1958) 161 F. Supp. 932

An Apparatus for Measuring Tolerance to Light and Visual Efficiency Under Different Conditions of Illumination

    Get PDF
Illumination in relation to automobile driving is considered one of the most important problems of highway safety. Because of contrast between source of light and background, lights which give sufficient illumination are considered blinding. An apparatus is described which makes possible the accurate measurement of tolerance to light under different atmospheric conditions. Calibration of the light falling on the test object and the light impinging on the retina makes possible measurement of the optimal conditions of illumination under different degrees of darkness. The light measurements are made by electrometric methods

Wills - Contract to Devise - Rights of Subsequent Spouse With Notice of Prior Contract at Time of Marriage

    Get PDF
Decedent and his first wife executed reciprocal wills pursuant to a contract appearing on the face of the instruments. Each gave the other a life estate, with remainders to substantially identical beneficiaries. After his first wife\u27s death, decedent remarried and in an antenuptial contract agreed to bequeath a sum of money to his second wife in lieu of all her claims against his estate. The second wife had actual notice of the prior agreement at the time of their marriage. Decedent then executed a new will which expressly revoked all prior wills, confirmed the terms of the antenuptial contract, and made further dispositions inconsistent with the first will. After his death the beneficiaries of the first will sought to impress decedent\u27s estate with a trust in their favor. The trial court allowed their claim, but directed that the lien on the estate should be inferior to the antenuptial contract rights of the widow. On appeal, held, affirmed. The agreement embodied in the reciprocal will cannot be enforced against the widow\u27s rights, even if she had actual notice of that agreement at the time of her marriage. Boner\u27s Admx. v. Chesnut\u27s Exr., (Ky. 1958) 317 S.W. (2d) 867

My Paradigm Can Beat Your Paradigm: Some Reflections on Knowledge Conflicts

    Get PDF
Disagreements about knowledge generation and application in social work are examined from a paradigmatic level to try to account for the moral indignation often accompanying the disagreements. The positivist paradigm with its pervasive influence on social science inquiry has been challenged in recent times by a more relativistic, interactive, consciousness based paradigm. The problem of standardizing Intersubjectivity , and the process of Inversion of Mastery , are used to examine the paradigm differences. The positivist\u27s accusation that the newer paradigm advocate is irresponsible , and the rejoinder that positivism contributes to a damaging hoax on humankind are the crux of the moral heat of the conflict

Chern-Simons action for inhomogeneous Virasoro group as an extension of three dimensional flat gravity

    Get PDF
We initiate the study of a Chern-Simons action associated to the semi-direct sum of the Virasoro algebra with its coadjoint representation. This model extends the standard Chern-Simons formulation of three dimensional flat gravity and is similar to the higher-spin extension of three dimensional anti-de Sitter or flat gravity. The extension can also be constructed for the exotic but not for the cosmological constant deformation of flat gravity.Comment: 15 pages. Version to appear in J. of Math. Phy
