    “I Teach Character in My Class”: Integrating Character Education in EFL Reading Classroom at Islamic Higher Education

    This article explores teacher's experiences and students' perceptions of character and values education at the university level. This is a case study of how teacher integrates character education in EFL Reading Comprehension subject at Islamic higher education context. The data from ten students and a teacher are collected through an online interview and questionnaires. The result showed the characters implied in EFL Reading Comprehension Subject are eleven characters include learning method, critical thinking, independence, creativity, courage/self-confidence, communicativeness, responsibility, honesty, religiousness, cooperation, tolerance. Those characters are positively responded by the students in their learning process in the classroom. Besides, the teacher also integrated those values in the teaching and learning process to instill students' character education

    Mahasantri (an Islamic university students) is an agent for Islamic Higher Education Institution to face the Moderate Islam Malay Era. In Indonesia, for example, there is a university boarding school program for Mahasantri to improve their personality and competence. This study is trying to find out whether the program has been aligned with their satisfaction. One of service they received in the boarding is English Language Learning program. They are going to be interviewed about their satisfaction toward the program. Then, the interview result will be analyzed to generate the satisfaction indicator referring to five dimensions of Service Quality (SQ) by Parasuraman and Berry (1991)

    Technology continues to developing along with the times require people to participate utilize these technologies in various fields, including education.T he teacher need to use a variation of instructional media to increase student mastery of concepts. Against the background of preliminary observations showed low student mastery of concepts, it can be seen based on the average value of the test results is 60 students daily test the average value is still below the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) set a school that is 75 This shows the low student mastery of concepts. Therefore, to improve students 'mastery of concepts then applied using a model of Instructional Games Hot Potatoes.Tujuan to be achieved, this study describes: a) the activities of teachers and students during the learning process b) Increasing students' mastery of concepts before implementation models using Hot Potatoes Instructional games each cycle c) students' mastery of concepts as applied to the model using the Hot Potatoes Instructional Games in the entire cycle, d) the attitude of students towards using models Instructional Games Hot Potatoes.Penelitian is classroom Action Research is located at SMP 2 Tanjungsiang class VII C amounts to 36 students.The instrument used in this study consisted of the test, namely: material ecosystem to determine students' mastery of concepts, teacher observation sheet activities and attitudes of students using a questionnaire. The results obtained by a) increasing student activity in each cycle, the highest student activity in the third cycle is 85% (high). Activity obtaining teacher during the learning process grounded in the learning stages planned b) Increasing students 'mastery of concepts in the first cycle to 65% (enough), Cycle II 75% (high) and cycle III 87% (high) c) students' mastery of concepts Instructional games after application of the model using the Hot Potatoes by 75% (high) d) students' attitudes toward models using Hot Potatoes Instructional games are overall positive. This is evident from the average score of the students' attitude scores greater than neutral attitude of students.Based on these results it can be concluded that the application of the Instructional games with hot potatoes can effectively improve the students' mastery of concept

    The Effect of English Listening and Speaking Application on Students' Listening Skill at Lakidende University

    English listening and speaking app is an English learning application that can be installed on students' mobile phone. This study aimed to find out the effect of using English listening and speaking app on students' listening skill and their perception. This study was experimental in nature thus there was an experimental group involved. There were 20 participants as the sample of this study. The qualitative data were calculated, and it was followed by analysing the qualitative instrument. Thus, this research used listening tests namely pre-test and post-test. The questionnaire consisted of three main questions asking about the students' opinion. This study found that the students' mean score improved significantly before and after the implementation of English listening and speaking app.  There are two best features that best help the students in their listening activity namely vocabulary and pronunciation features. Besides, the students responded positively toward the use of this learning application on their listening skill improvement. This study suggests that the details of this finding need to be investigated further

    Analisa Peningkatan Kualitas Layanan Jasa Reparasi Kapal di Galangan Kapal Jawa Timur

    Jawa Timur adalah daerah dengan banyak Perusahaan galangan kapal dimana layanan jasa reparasi kapal menjadi salah satu jasa utama yang ditawarkan kepada pemilik kapal/Perusahaan pelayaran. Kualitas layanan jasa reparasi dan tingkat kepuasan penggunanya sangat mempengaruhi keberlangsungan galangan kapal tersebut. Tujuan dari tugas akhir ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kualitas layanan jasa reparasi kapal berdasarkan penilaian pemilik kapal/Perusahaan pelayaran yang pernah melakukan reparasi kapal di galangan kapal yang ada di daerah Jawa Timur. Pertama, dilakukan analisis kepuasan dan penilaian pemilik kapal/Perusahaan pelayaran terhadap layanan jasa reparasi kapal di galangan kapal Jawa Timur yang mencakup empat variabel yaitu biaya reparasi, mutu pekerjaan, waktu reparasi, serta pelayanan dan fasilitas. Kedua, dilakukan analisis komponen galangan kapal yang mempengaruhi layanan jasa reparasi sehingga diketahui komponen yang memberikan konstribusi terhadap kepuasan dan penilaian pemilik kapal/Perusahaan pelayaran. Ketiga, dihitung besarnya fasilitas yang perlu ditingkatkan berdasarkan keterlambatan dari pekerjaan reparasi. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode statistika deskriftif dan pembobotan dari setiap variabel yang dinilai. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa kedelapan galangan kapal di Jawa Timur yang dibagi kedalam tiga kategori berdasarkan kapasitasnya menunjukan perlu dilakukan peningkatan komponen penunjang layanan jasa reparasi kapal. Galangan kapal kategori A perlu meningkatkan fasilitas konstruksi sebesar 97% dan fasilitas bengkel outfitting sebesar 89%. Galangan kapal kategori B perlu meningkatkan fasilitas konstruksi sebesar 85,4%, fasilitas bengkel mesin sebesar 76,92%, fasilitas bengkel outfitting pipa sebesar 42,11%, fasilitas bengkel kayu sebesar 94,74%, fasilitas bengkel listrik sebesar 57,14%, dan faslitas bengkel fashar sebesar 100%. Sedangkan galangan kapal kategori C, fasilitas dengan peningkatan sebesar 100% yaitu faslitas docking, fasilitas lifting, dan fasilitas workshop, untuk fasilitas pendukung perlu ditingkatkan sebesar 60%
