Installation of a water filter system for household use has become a necessity for Malaysians to get safe drinking water quality. Various types of machinery products of water filters have entered the Malaysian market with certain quality assurance. In the present, there were no guidelines for the water filter system in Malaysia that can prove water quality assurance given by the provider. The aim in this study is to produce a good reference based on the factor affecting the user choosing a water filter system. The method that was used is the collection of data from the questionnaire and survey of feedback from consumers. This result can determine the pattern and selection factor of a water filter machine product. The major factor in the selection of water purifier machines is the price offered and the main information about the product is obtained through the advice of friends and neighbours. The second aim of this study was conducted to determine the quality of the water filter before and after through a water filter system. The results of water quality tests before and after through water filter system showed three forms of concentration changes in chemical water quality parameters were tested. First forms of concentration, there was a high percentage removal rate that exceeds 75% in all types of water filter brands. Second, the result of the water quality test for tap water and after filtering water sample shows no significant difference for the concentration parameters before and after passing through a water filter system. Third, there was an increased in the concentration of water after through water filter system. The results of chemical water quality test for three brands which have twelve parameters was given good performance on Brand A (Model 1). However, the water quality before and after passing through a water filter system still meets drinking water standards of the Ministry of Health. The results of this study can be used as a reference source for Safety Division and Food Quality, Ministry of Health Malaysia in developing water filter system guidelines for household use

Industrialized Building System is a construction method using the technique, products, components and building systems which involve prefabricated components and assembly of components at site. The use of IBS in the construction industry offers many advantages not only in terms of reducing the use of foreign workers but also to provide a more orderly construction site, clean and safe. In addition, IBS can also reduce wastage of construction materials, the rate of accidents on construction sites as well as to shorten the period of completion of a building. These advantages are not directly solving the problems that exist in the construction industry. However, there are those who still doubt the ability of these IBS applications. Therefore, this study was to identify the use of IBS and conventional methods in the construction of a government project, studying the advantages and disadvantages of the use of IBS in the construction industry and study the problems in the implementation of IBS in the construction industry today. In this study, the authors have selected two schools in Johor, which uses a different method of construction to see more clearly the advantages of this method of IBS. The analysis methods used are qualitative methods and the findings obtained are problems that exist in implementing the use of IBS as a primary method of construction and effective use of IBS compared with the conventional method. Finally, the authors have given some suggestions that can be taken by the CIDB to promote the use of IBS among contractors and developers

The competitive environment in the retail and Food and Beverage industry is expected to get more intense and crowded. More foreign brand names have now set up shop in Malaysia and more are still to come. Business conditions in this sector will become less forgiving; complacency and a slowness to act or change will be severely punished. To succeed in such an environment, retailers and brand owners alike will have to rethink their existing work practices and business strategies to see if more efficiencies and competitive advantage can be secured by doing things differently. Best practices in product design and merchandising, customer service, data collection and analysis, store layouts, inventory control, etc., will have to be reviewed, modified and adopted just so a retailer can stay relevant and profitable. This proposal is for open second branch SEED boutique and cafe at Millennium Square Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The main objective is to proposed new concept and design for SEED boutique and cafe. Heavy metal pollution has become one of the most serious environmental problems today and treatment for this problem, which is environmentally friendly, is vigorously sought. Realising that a large portion of the biomass from the oil palm plantation is just left to rot and returned to the field as fertiliser, this research aims to investigate and explore the preparation of cryogel from the lignin of oil palm frond (OPF). The potential of ultrasound-assisted extraction to extract lignin from OPF as compared to conventional heating was studied. The extraction was carried out using sodium hydroxide solution as a solvent and factors such as solvent concentration and extraction temperature effects were also examined. The presence of lignin in the corresponding extracts was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The extracted lignin was then reacted with furfural to synthesize resin before being freeze-dried to obtain cryogel. The cryogel was characterized for their morphology and physical properties using FTIR, field emission scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, Breuner, Emmer and Teller (BET) and TGA. The performance of cryogel towards the removal of heavy metals ions (zinc (Zn(II)), copper (Cu(II)) and chromium (Cr(VI))) via adsorption process was performed. The adsorption was also described through adsorption kinetics, isotherm and thermodynamic properties. The result obtained showed that the extraction of OPF assisted with ultrasound was more efficient in giving higher lignin yield compared to conventional heating and the optimum lignin yield was 26%. Other than that, the reaction temperature was lowered and the reaction time was also shortened when the extraction was assisted by ultrasound. From FTIR analysis, OPF lignin showed similar spectra in terms of functional groups but slightly different in intensity when compared to commercial lignin. Overall, under optimum conditions of adsorption, Zn(II) gave the highest adsorption capacity followed by Cu(II) and Cr(VI) (i.e. Zn(II)>Cu(II)>Cr(VI)). The adsorption capacity for these heavy metals were 0.995, 0.935 and 0.4895 mg/g for Zn(II), Cu(II) and Cr(VI), respectively. The experimental data were appropriately described by the Langmuir model. This was validated by the R2 values of the Langmuir model (0.999 to 0.9689) that were higher than the Freundlich model (0.8343 to 0.9539) and the Temkin model (0.8409 to 0.9502) for all the heavy metals tested. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second order. The negative values of the Gibbs free energy change indicated the adsorption was spontaneous. The negative value of enthalpy change and entropy change confirmed the exothermic nature and showed the decrement of structural changes at solid-solution interface during adsorption process, respectively. It can be concluded that the synthesized cryogel derived from OPF lignin provides a potential performance for heavy metals remova

The Northern Peninsular Malaysia area mostly consists of soft marine clays for coastal area. This marine clays are makes it challenging to construction activities. Meanwhile, northern area also consists of laterites soil but less develop compared to coastal sites. In this research, a new method of evaluating the quality of soils was introduced. Specifically, the standard penetration test (SPT) data were converted into the cumulative SPT(N) value curve for comparison between sites which is marine clays and laterites soil. SPT(N) value data obtained from Piezocone test from three marine clays sites and three from laterite sites were used and converted into cumulative SPT(N) value curves. The selected SPT(N) value reading were from the 1m intervals. The sites from marine clays will comparing to the sites from laterite soil. In this study, each marine clay site and laterites will be comparing each other with their actual depth from the data and also same depth for both sites (5m). The evaluation based on the range of cumulative SPT(N) values and shape of the curve which marine clays have steeper line graph compare to laterites. The cumulative SPT(N) value for laterites were higher than for marine clays sites. Thus, the evaluation of a site based on cumulative SPT(N) values was found more practical to be used in geotechnical practice. The cumulative SPT(N) method also expected to be able differentiate quality of sites in terms of foundation required. In this study, the evaluation of pile bearing capacity of a site will be involving the cumulative SPT(N) and also second cumulative SPT(N). A correlation of depth and total bearing capacity are produced. The length of soil penetration used are 5m and 10m under the ground and marine clays sites were chosen. The correlation of depth and total bearing capacity very useful to estimate suitable length of pile to be used in foundation design
