    Get PDF
Garcinia atroviridis has been used as food seasoning since ancient times. Garcinia atroviridis was reported to contain anti-inflammatories, anti-fungal, antioxidant and anti-obesity properties. Nowadays, modern society has become more health conscious and was especially against obesity. Thus, it was important to search for a new solution to fight obesity using the more natural and toxin-free approaches

Malaysia enters the endemic phase of Covid-19 on 1st April 2022. Since then, the Malaysia’s economy has started to recover, and domestic tourism has also restarted. Tourism is one of the factors that contributed to the economy. Avoiding the headache to plan their own trips, tourists usually count on tour operators to turn their dream vacations into realities. Booking a tour is the easiest way for a traveller to experience a foreign land and at the same time they could enjoy their vacation and visit the best spots. The main objective of this study is to determine the main criteria of a tour packages in Langkawi Island by using Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP). The five criteria identified are transportation, cost, food service, accommodation, and tour guide. Results showed that the transportation is the most important criteria a tourist look forward in the selection of a tour package

Religion as brand image in local beauty brand advertising / Mohd Fauzi Harun…[et.al]

The cut-throat competitive market environment has made the advertising field very experimental and hence advertisers are adopting different measures to attract the attention of their target customers. Many companies try to convince Muslim consumers that their products are Shariah-compliant. In persuading whether or not their claim has any truth value, it is perhaps inevitable in today’s capitalist world that religion come to be commodified. This advertising conflict practice is important to study especially in evaluate the social interaction in the formation of meanings for individuals or even society. The presentation of religious symbol or iconography basically been utilized by all the religions of the world so that each religion could identify each other. In advertisement, these symbols can be communicate through object, picture, sign, word, or even complex artistic forms and gestures used as a kind of key to convey religious concepts, association of certain ideas or events. The study is conducted to examine the influence of religion on local beauty brand and discover the Islamic commodification of brand image on advertisement by Muslim & Non-Muslim. The „signs‟ used is more than selling purpose but implied with hidden messages and influences that later affects actions and thoughts of the viewer as well as what they do automatically are often governed by a complex set of cultural messages and conventions. 9 respondents from different background were selected from a convenience sampling method in semi-structured interview to provide more opportunities to glean insights about the topic. Culture has been perceived as a high influential aspect in advertising strategy especially in term of visual and text used. Cultural values of different background of viewers also governs ideas in giving interpretation of what was served to them in the advertisement. Even though they do understand it is a matter of brand image towards targeted consumer which is Malay-Muslim, some advertisement have the potential of misleading messages which can be considered as a harmful approach to the collective behaviours of the society. This so called “normal‟ advertisement is a tactful manner that consumer goes psychologically under the pressure of advertising persuasiveness rather than to sell the products as the basic aim of advertising

Antioxidative properties of selected microencapsulated plants powder prepared using ultrasonic spray-drying technique

Ultrasonic spray drier technology has been practice because of its numerous advantages, including providing more uniform droplets and reducing bioactive compounds damages. This study was aimed to measure the antioxidant properties of several microencapsulated plants powder (MPP) prepared using ultrasonic spray dying technique. The plant samples were treated using ultrasonic spray drier at 80°C inlet temperatures and 10% of gum Arabic relative to solid content. The collected MPP were analysed for their antioxidant activities. The plants use in this study were C. ternatea, M. indica, S. rebaudiana, P. macrocarpa, K. salvarezii and R. apiculata, All MPP showed somewhat very promising high antioxidative activities with C. ternatea significantly exhibited the highest (P<0.05) antioxidant power in nearly all antioxidative test analysis performed. On the other hand, M. indica showed the least ability in antioxidant power and the content of bioactive compounds. Results of the study point that the production of MPP and microcapsules is feasible as a functional ingredient in food industry as it can retain the antioxidative properties, which could lead to a more sustainable usage of natural resources

Influence of pre-treatment temperature of palm oil fuel ash on the properties and performance of green ceramic hollow fiber membranes towards oil/ water separation application

    No full text
Palm oil fuel ash (POFA) is one of the most abundant industrial wastes in palm oil producing countries like Indonesia and Malaysia. Due to its unique characteristics such as high silica and hydroxyl group contents, it has high potential to be used as the main material for the fabrication of low cost and green ceramic hollow fiber membrane. This work investigated the effect of pre-treatment temperature of POFA towards the properties of the derived ceramic hollow fiber membranes. The properties of POFA such as morphology, mineralogical and chemical composition, thermal behavior, surface and pore properties were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), carbon element analysis, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and nitrogen (N2) sorption technique. Effect of POFA pre-treatment temperature on the membrane properties were evaluated and characterized in terms of morphology, bending strength, pore size distribution, porosity and pure water flux (PWF). Finally, the separation performance of the membranes was also investigated using oil/water emulsion filtration tests. The results showed that the membrane properties were significantly improved for the membranes derived from pre-treated POFA compared to the untreated one. The highest bending strength of ∼60 MPa was achieved for TP700 membrane which was pre-treated at 700 °C. However, the PWF decreased from 219.2 to 28.4 L/m2 h for untreated POFA (UP) derived and TP700 membranes, respectively. Besides, an enhanced oil/water separation performance was obtained for membranes fabricated from pre-treated POFA with the highest oil rejection of 88.9%. These results showed that POFA derived ceramic hollow fiber membrane could provide the basis for the development of low cost and green ceramic hollow fiber membranes from waste ash for separation applications
