    Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk mengenalpasti transformasi tipologi pada bangunan kediaman ke atas kajian kes yang membawa kepada pembentukan dan perubahan fabrik bandar di Kampong Bharu. Kajian Kes Kampong Bharu dipilih kerana ia merupakan salah satu perkampungan bandar dengan landskap budaya Melayu di Kuala Lumpur serta komuniti tunggal yang mendiami kejiranannya. Kedua, transformasi tipologi kediaman di Kampong Bharu dikaji sebagai usaha untuk memahami lebih terperinci mengenai proses perubahan rupa bentuk bandar yang di sebabkan oleh tekanan pembangunan di sekelilingnya. Kaedah penyelidikan yang digunakan ini adalah dengan pemerhatian di tapak kajian serta menganalisis tipologi dan morfologi pada kajian kes. Kaedah kajian yang dijalankan adalah bagi mengenal pasti corak typologi bangunan dan perubahan morfologi bandar yang terbentuk dan berubah mengikut perubahan zaman, masa dan fasa pembangunan. Dengan itu, hasil dapatan kajian yang diperoleh ini akan dimanfaatkan sebagai pendedahan dan panduan kepada badan-badan profesional seperti arkitek, perakabandar, serta pihak berkuasa tempatan dalam memahami corak transformasi tipologi perumahan di perkampungan bandar Kampong Bharu, Kuala Lumpur

    Experimental study of composite cold-formed steel c-section connected back-to-back / Mohamad Rohaidzat Mohamed Rashid, Noorsaidi Mahat and Nazri Nasir

    This thesis describes the results of an experimental investigation involving the testing of push out specimens. This study was aimed to develop a new type of shear connector that is easy to construct for a composite beam. The test specimens were designed to study the effect on the different shapes of shear connectors that have been applied for cold-formed steel lipped C-sections connected back-to-back. The test specimens have been categorized into two series which are four numbers of specimens for the first series and two numbers of specimens for the second series. For the first series variations of shear transfer mechanisms were tested, where prefabricated bent-up tabs of square shape and prefabricated bent-up tabs of triangular shape were employed at the surface of the flanges embedded in the concrete to provide shear transfer capacity. Second series of specimens were selected based on the results from the first series. The primary differences between the specimens are the shapes of the shear connectors and angles of bent-up. Failure mechanisms also were observed during testing. In this study, longitudinal cracks were observed from most of the specimens that were tested. Results show that the shear capacities of specimens with proposed type of shear connectors increase and the slips reduce compare to control specimen that only relies on natural bond (i.e. without shear connector) between steel and concrete to resist shear. Between the two types of shear connectors used, prefabricated bent-up tab (square shape) provides better performance in-term of strength, compare to the prefabricated bent-up tab (triangular shape). Concerning the angle of bent-up tab, higher degree of bent-up gives better performance

    Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk mengenalpasti serta mengkaji secara kritis hubungan antara rumah kedai vernakular dan kontemporari untuk memahami rekabentuk rumah kedai serta kaki lima yang respon kepada konteks setempat. Usaha pemuliharaan tentang rumah kedai vernakular tidak berlaku secara menyeluruh kerana hanya fasad bangunan sahaja ditekankan dalam agenda pemuliharaan bandar sedia ada. Terdapat elemen warisan lain yang tidak diambil berat antaranya ialah kaki lima. Deretan Rumah kedai di Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman telah dipilih untuk menjalan kajian terhadap penggunaan dan karakter fizikal I kawasan kaki lima rumah kedai. Kajian kes ini dipilih kerana merupakan fabrik bandar rumah kedai lama serta mempunyai kepentingan dan keistimewaan sejarah yang tersendiri. Kajian ini mengaplikasikan kaedah metodologi kualitatif dimana ia melibatkan beberapa teknik kajian iaitu kajian kes, pemerhatian di tapak kajian serta kajian literatur. Teknik pemerhatian dianalisa secara kualitatif di mana pendekatan pemerhatian berstruktur digunakan. Dengan itu, hasil dapatan kajian yang diperoleh ini dapat menjadi panduan kepada badan-badan profesional serta pihak berkuasa tempatan dalam memahami kepentingan ruang kaki lima di rumah kedai yang menyumbang kepada karakter tempat dan identiti setempat di Malaysia amnya

    The traditional longhouse is facing challenges in maintaining the sustainable concept, form and antiquity of the building elements. Nowadays, the traditional longhouse is faced with demolishment where it needs to give way to the construction of the single dwellings. Not only that, the existing traditional longhouse struggles to maintain its original concept and antiquity while it struggles with modernization. Thus, it is important to understand the sustainability of the building elements of the traditional longhouse in terms of space concept, layout, materials and method of construction. Later, the preservation of one of Sarawak‟s unique architecture will become possible. A study has been conducted to identify the sustainability of the building elements in Bidayuh longhouse and its relevance in the present and future construction of the longhouse. From the case study that focus on Bidayuh longhouse located at Serian area in Sarawak, Malaysia, the building elements of the Bidayuh longhouse which still stand the test of time will be obtained

    E-procurement adoption in the Malaysian construction sector : integrating diffusionof innovations and theory of planned behaviour framework

    In recent years, environmental problems have become more prominent in the construction industry. The production and use of building materials are still one of the main reasons for various ecological and environmental challenges in the industry. Compared with traditional building materials, green building materials are environmentally friendly. Therefore, the adoption of green building materials in the construction industry can generally solve the industry’s ecological and environmental problems and promote green and low-carbon development. Research on contractors’ green procurement behaviour can promote the construction industry’s sustainable development. Many scholars discuss and agree that the implementation of e-procurement is a green approach towards sustainable construction. However, current evidence indicates that procurement stakeholders, especially contractors, are struggling to implement e-procurement effectively. Therefore, there is a need to study contractors’ behaviour in relation to green e-procurement. In response, this study investigates the adoption of e-procurement by Malaysian contractors by adopting planned behaviour theories and diffusion of innovations in their decision-making process. Here, a conceptual framework has been developed which focuses on factors influencing contractors’ adoptions. The framework can be used for understanding the contractors’ adoption decision of e-procurement. The result will help to find the critical key factors affecting green procurement behaviour from contractors’ perspectives and extend the theories further. This framework is also in tandem with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Construction 4.0 Strategic Plan (2021-2025) in identifying critical factors that affect the adoption of green procurement on construction projects

    Proses urbanisasi perbandaran mengakibatkan peningkatan keperluan penduduk dan perubahan gaya hidup lama ke moden. Pembangunan infrastruktur di pusat-pusat bandar lama di seluruh dunia turut berkembang pesat dari masa ke masa. Proses perkembangan morfologi bandar lama yang tidak terkawal banyak mengubah corak fabrik bandar terutama bangunan rumah kedai sekaligus mengubah karakter fizikal pada fakad bangunan serta kualiti rekabentuk skapbandar secara keseluruhan. Pengubahsuaian bangunan rumah kedai kepada binaan yang lebih moden mewujudkan tipologi bangunan yang tidak responsif kepada fabrik bandar dan konteks setempat. Perbezaan tipologi telah mempengaruhi kepentingan karakter fizikal sesuatu kawasan terhadap kualiti rekabentuknya. Ramai pengkaji dan tokoh dalam bidang pembandaran berpendapat bahawa tipologi bangunan baharu yang berubah disebabkan fasa morfologi bandar yang tidak terkawal ini meninggalkan pelbagai impak yang merugikan terhadap fabrik bandar dan masyarakat di dalam bandar. Makalah ini bertujuan mengenalpasti dan menganalisa karakter fizikal fakad bagi rumah kedai lama dan rumah kedai baharu yang mempengaruhi deretan tipologi rumah kedai yang berubah mengikut garis masa perbandaran. Kawasan kajian adalah terletak di Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman dimana satu blok bangunan yang terdiri daripada beberapa rumah kedai dipilih untuk dijadikan tapak kajian. Pemeriksaan empirikal daripada kajian ini menentukan kriteria karakter fizikal bangunan yang menyumbang kepada kualiti rekabentuk serta mendokumentasikan kesan karakter fizikal bangunan terhadap kualiti rekabentuk di Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Oleh itu, hasil kajian dan dapatan yang diperoleh ini boleh dimanfaatkan sebagai pendedahan dan panduan kepada para arkitek dan perekabandar dalam memahami kepentingan karakter fizikal rumah kedai lama khususnya di Malaysia.     Malaysian SME’s Contractors Adoption of Building information Modeling (BIM)

    Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a modelling technology that provides construction professionals with digital tools for use in project planning, design, monitoring, and control. The potential advantages of putting BIM into practice are known to the Malaysian government. The Malaysian government has taken a number of steps to promote BIM in the hopes that Malaysian construction industry experts will utilize it extensively. However, significant difficulties are delaying the introduction of BIM in Malaysia. Implementing BIM typically presents difficulties for smaller businesses. Even though there are numerous benefits to utilizing BIM, small and medium-sized construction companies are still cautious to do so in the course of their work. This study examines BIM adoption in Malaysian small and medium-sized construction firms. The present degree of BIM adoption in Malaysia’s construction industry as well as the best tactics to encourage SME contractors in Malaysia’s construction industry to embrace BIM more effectively were the subjects of a questionnaire survey that was conducted. According to the survey’s results, SME contractors are still trailing behind in adopting BIM due to a number of obstacles that stand in the way of its adoption. In order to increase BIM adoption among SME contractors, it is crucial that government agencies successfully promote and encourage BIM use across the whole Malaysian construction sector. The importance of this study is in gathering data on the extent of BIM adoption among SME contractors, which might be utilized as a benchmark and reference for the development of BIM in the Malaysian construction industry
