Black Strings in Asymptotically Safe Gravity

In this paper, we study black strings in asymptotic safety gravity (ASG) scenario. The ASG approach is introduced by implementing gravitational and cosmological running coupling constants directly in the black string metric. We calculate the Hawking temperature, entropy, and heat capacity of the improved black string metric in two cases: considering the cosmological constant fixed in some fixed point and the general case where both Newton's constant and cosmological constant are improved. For the identification of the scale moment we used an general inverse law setting k(r)1/rnk(r)\sim 1/r^{n}. We show that improving only the Newton's constant the problem of singularity is solved for the identifications with n>1n>1. However, if the cosmological constant is also running the singularity persists in the solution. Also, we show that the ASG effects predicts the presence of a remnant mass in the final evaporation process. Besides that, a logarithmic correction is observed in the entropy. However, a running cosmological constant introduces new correction terms to the entropy beyond that. We show that the improved black string solution remains stable, as in the usual case. Phase transitions are not observed in both cases studied here.Comment: 18 pages, 9 figure

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis article is a consideration about the goals attained in the field of indigenous health in the last decades, supported by the analysis of resolutions and recommendations published by the Brazilian Health National Council and by the observation of the Indigenous Health Intersectorial Commission, which assists the former. We intend to contribute to the comprehension of the relationship between the indigenous populations and State institutions through their participation in the government apparatus ensured by the so-called social control. Therefore, we examine the limits of direct democracy through social control, the possibility of political action that grants inter-ethnical dialogue, and the translation of achievements in substantial improvements in the everyday reality of the differentiated healthcare in the Special Indigenous Sanitary Districts. Get PDF
Acai (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) and guarana (Paullinia cupana Kunth) are native species from the Amazon Forest that in folk medicine are used to treat several diseases due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This review brings together findings from different studies on the potential neuroprotective effects of acai and guarana, highlighting the importance of the conservation and sustainable exploitation of the Amazon Forest. A bibliographic survey in the PubMed database retrieved indexed articles written in English that focused on the effects of acai and guarana in in vitro and in vivo models of neurodegenerative diseases. In general, treatment with either acai or guarana decreased neuroinflammation, increased antioxidant responses, ameliorated depression, and protected cells from neurotoxicity mediated by aggregated proteins. The results from these studies suggest that flavonoids, anthocyanins, and carotenoids found in both acai and guarana have therapeutic potential not only for neurodegenerative diseases, but also for depressive disorders. In addition, acai and guarana show beneficial effects in slowing down the physiological aging process. However, toxicity and efficacy studies are still needed to guide the formulation of herbal medicines from acai and guarana

Use of Waste Foundry Sand (WFS) as Filler in Hot-Mixed Asphalt Concrete

    Get PDF
The environmental issue has become a topic of relevant discussion in modern society, given the current awareness that construction inputs are finite, and a large amount of waste can be reused as a building material in engineering works. The products used in foundry industry can be non ferrous and ferrous and the residue produced by this last one is not potentially hazardous to human health. The waste foundry sand (WFS) fits this reuse and can be employed in asphalt mixtures, in partial or complete replacement of the conventional filler, i.e. Portland cement (PC). In this sense, this work analyses five asphalt mixtures, one using 100% CP (reference mixture) as filler, and the other four using WFS in proportions of 25-100%, every 25% of the total amount, in 5% (in mass) of the maximum replacement. The mixtures were physically and mechanically characterised according to the Marshall methodology and subsequently submitted to the tests of static indirect tensile strength (static ITS), resilient modulus (RM), repeated-load indirect fatigue (fatigue life) and unconfined static creep. The results of the tests showed that all mixtures with WFS residue presented physical and mechanical parameters within Brazilian standards following the Marshall methodology

Approximate Bayesian Computation Applied to Model Selection and Parameter Calibration in Cell Proliferation

    Get PDF
Approximate Bayesian Computation is used in this work for the selection and calibration of cell proliferation models. Four competing models based on ordinary differential equations are analyzed, by using the measurements of the proliferation of DU-145 prostate cancer viable cells during seven days. The selection criterion of the ABC algorithm is based on the Euclidean distance between the model prediction and the experimental observations. The Richards Model and the Generalized Logistic Model were selected by the ABC algorithm used in this work, providing accurate estimates of the evolution of the number of viable cells. Bayes factor revealed that there was no evidence in favor of any of these two selected models

The present work tries to show the influences of the different marketing strategies on the consumption of high school students. With the advancement of technology and the expansion of communication vehicles, new information propagation techniques are created with the aim of getting more people to know about a service or product. Data from articles and technical-scientific work developed on marketing in High School were collected. The Generation Z digital natives have been born with computers, chats, cell phones and the internet in their hands. Most high school students are inserted in the context of social networks, in which they spend much of their free time browsing and interacting. Generation Z has a purchasing power superior to the other generations, this shows that efficient marketing strategies could reach this public generating a greater profitability for companies and service providers. It is concluded that there is a lack of methods and techniques aimed at the elaboration of marketing strategies aimed at the High School, which make up the Generation Z. It was observed that there is an impact on the influence of marketing strategies on this audience, it was not possible to measure such impact due to lack of studies on this area
