Evaluation of loading capacity of corroded reinforced concrete beams using experiment and finite element method

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) beams using experiments and a proposed finite element (FE) model, which is able to consider the reduction of the reinforcement diameter and adhesion force. The developed FE model comprised of three main components including concrete elements, reinforcing bar elements, and adhesion elements, in which the plane cross-section hypothesis was adopted. Thus, the necessary number of elements in the model of corroded RC beam was greatly reduced, while the accuracy of the model was still ensured. An experimental test was employed to verify the developed FE model. The results show that the proposed FE model in this study is capable of modeling RC beams under corrosion effects. Additionally, the rebar diameter and adhesion force have a significant influence on the load-carrying capacity of corroded RC beams. Moreover, a series of experimental tests of corrosive RC beams including 1-month, 2-month, and 3-month corrosion levels was conducted for various exposed times to investigate the influences of the corrosion time on the strength of RC beams. It reveals that the effect of the corrosion time on the strength of RC beams show to be pronounced

Purpose: The objective of this study is to explore critical success factors in Internet of Things applying and their importance level in tourism companies using the fuzzy theory.   Theoretical framework: This paper uses the TOE framework and adds a customer security variable. Therefore, the framework includes four variables technology, organization, environment, and customer security (TOEC) which are the four aspects of this research framework.   Design/methodology/approach: By integrating FAHP and FAHP extension methods, the study finds that the critical success factors for IoT application in tourism companies, including technology, organization, environment, and customer security.   Findings: The result show that, the first ranking is organization factor, the second ranking belongs to technology, customer securities come with third ranking, and the fourth ranking is environment. This result also indicates that IT Human resources, Technology infrastructure, Top management support, and organization readiness are the prioritized critical success factors for IoT applications in tourism companies.   Research, Practical & Social implications: This paper contributes to the understanding of IoT, its features and highlights the importance of new technology and solutions in tourism industry.   Originality/value: This study fills the gap in the TEO model by adding the factor of customer securities so-called TEOC model

    Vitali's theorem without uniform boundedness

Let {fm}m≥1 be a sequence of holomorphic functions defined on a bounded domain D ⊂ Cn or a sequence of rational functions (1 ≤ deg rm ≤ m) defined on Cn. We are interested infinding sufficient conditions to ensure the convergence of {fm}m≥1 on a large set provided the convergence holds pointwise on a not too small set. This type of result is inspired from a theorem of Vitali which gives a positive answer for uniformly bounded sequence

Calcareous nannofossils are very small microfossils composed of calcium carbonate. They are very good biostratigraphic markers within marine sediments by covering the Jurassic to present. The standard preparation of a sample for nannofossil analysis requires the collection of the largest quantity and the best fossils. Sample preparation accords to the following steps: i. Pounding sample; ii. Eliminating organic matter; iii. Washing sample; iv. Filter sample through the sieve; v. Eliminating clay; vi. Drying sample in an incubator; vii. Packing sample. Sample analysis accords to the following steps: i. Preparation of smear - slide; ii. Observation of morphology; iii. Determination; iv. Taking photo; v. Evaluating overall preservation and abundance of fossils; vi. Making analysis result sheet. This process is applied to study calcareous nannofossils within marine sediments in Soc Trang province. It makes much clear to understand middle Pleistocene-early Holocene ecosystem of calcareous nannofossil. In conclusion, this assemblage belongs to NN21 zone by the present of Emiliania huxleyi and Gephyrocapsa oceanica.Hóa thạch Tảo vôi có kích thước rất nhỏ, thành phần chính là canxi carbonat.

Dynamic stiffness method for free vibrations analysis of partial fluid-filled orthotropic circular cylindrical shells

    Get PDF
Free vibrations of partial fluid-filled orthotropic circular cylindrical shells are investigated using the Dynamic Stiffness Method (DSM) or Continuous Element Method (CEM) based on theFirst Order Shear Deformation Theory (FSDT) and non-viscous incompressible fluid equations. Numerical examples are given for analyzing natural frequencies and harmonic responses of cylindrical shells partially and completely filled with fluid under various boundary conditions. The vibration frequencies for different filling ratios of cylindrical shells are obtained and compared with existing experimental and theoretical results which indicate that the fluid filling can reduce significantly the natural frequencies of studiedcylindrical shells. Detailed parametric analysis is carried out to show the effects of some geometrical and material parameters on the natural frequencies of orthotropic cylindrical shells. The advantages of this current solution consist in fast convergence, low computational cost and high precision validating for all frequency ranges

Eliciting patients’ health concerns in consulting rooms and wards in Vietnamese public hospitals

This article examines the doctor’s elicitation of the patient’s presenting health concern in two clinical settings in the Vietnamese public hospital system: the consulting room and the ward. The data were taken from 66 audio-recorded consultations. Our analysis shows that the elicitors used by the doctor in the consulting room often communicate a weak epistemic stance towards the patient’s health issue, while those used in the ward tend to signal a strong epistemic stance. In addition, this contrast between the elicitors employed in the consulting room and the ward is evident in our data regardless of whether the consultation is a first visit or a same follow-up (in which the doctor is the same one that treated the patient on their last visit), though the contrast is less clear for different follow-ups (in which the doctor has not treated the patient before). An additional finding is that the clinical setting has some bearing on the use of inappropriate elicitation formats (in which the doctor opens the visit with an elicitor which is more appropriate for another type of visit). The precise way in which each of the consulting room and the ward operates is, of course, a feature of the Vietnamese public hospital system itself. Hence, the overall contrast between the elicitors and elicitation formats used in these two settings illustrates how, on a more general level, the institutional context can have an impact on doctor-patient communication
