Direct off-line robot programming via a common CAD package

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on intuitive and direct off-line robot programming from a CAD drawing running on a common 3-D CAD package. It explores the most suitable way to represent robot motion in a CAD drawing, how to automatically extract such motion data from the drawing, make the mapping of data from the virtual (CAD model) to the real environment and the process of automatic generation of robot paths/programs. In summary, this study aims to present a novel CAD-based robot programming system accessible to anyone with basic knowledge of CAD and robotics. Experiments on different manipulation tasks show the effectiveness and versatility of the proposed approach

Aspectos da biologia do camarão Plesionika narval (Fabricius, 1787) nos Açores

Dissertação mest., Biologia Marinha, Universidade do Algarve, 2008In this study, have been approached some aspects of the biology of Plesionika narval (Fabricius, 1787) around Azores Islands, with the purpose of deepening biological knowledge on the species. Data from 3 research cruises made between 1998 and 2006 in the central group of the archipelago and Princesa Alice’s sea bank were used. These surveys have used 5 different types of traps, some lying on the bottom and others raised above it. The hauls were made between 50 and 1200 m depths. Data analysis, especially significance testing, was carried out using generalised linear models (glm). P.narval was caught between 50 and 550 m, with higher catch rates at depths shallower than 150 m. The average CPUE values depend on the type of fish-trap and depth. However, the season of the year, as well as the area (island or sea bank) do not have a significant effect on those values. The 6273 sampled individuals had a carapace length (CL) between 6 and 20 mm. The average CL size of males was 13,6 mm, females 13,9 mm and ovigerous females 14,5 mm. The b coefficient in the length-weight relationship varies between 2,254 and 2,555. The length-weight relationship varies with sex, and between females, with sexual condition. The sex ratio varies with the season and depth, with a dominance of females during summer and at shallower depths. Ovigerous females occur year round but a peak was observed between spring and summer, when the ovigerous females are in shallow waters. The size at maturity in females was 13,5 mm CL. These results suggest a seasonal vertical migration of P.narval, possibly linked to the spawning cycle

    SABE online: reshaping business

    Get PDF
The following case study analyses the evolution of the business model of SABE Online, a Software as a Service (SaaS) start-up currently operating in the Portuguese market. In June 2015, João Ferro Rodrigues the CEO and founder realizes that the company’s previous business model no longer reflects the current strategy. Therefore a new business model must be developed in order to reflect this new path, while providing information about the necessary investment to be successful. This case study provides insights about the evolution of SABE Online’s business model in order to reflect the new strategy of the company

Evaluating the Impacts of Urban Regeneration Companies in Portugal: The Case of Porto

    Get PDF
Cities have undergone many changes since the 1950s, not least the expansion of urban areas to the detriment of the historic central areas, some of which have been left to decay. In Portugal the most visible results of this phenomenon are found in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto. To address this problem, the Portuguese Government conceived the first legal instrument for urban regeneration in 2004 which allows the local administrations to form publicly owned companies—urban regeneration companies (SRUs) to actively endorse urban regeneration in historic city centres. This paper discusses the activities of the Porto Vivo SRU, one of these companies created in Porto, in the context of the Portuguese milieu of urban regeneration and evaluates Porto Vivo's operation.Peer Reviewe

O povoado do Neolítico final e do Calcolítico da Travessa das Dores (Ajuda - Lisboa)

In this article we present the results of the archaeological excavations at Travessa das Dores, Lisbon, that were performed before the construction of a new building for this location approved by the Lisbon city council. The excavations were limited to the area occupied by the new building. A significant number of pits were excavated during Late Neolithic in a cretaceous marly limestone platform. Soon after, an important defensive ditched enclosure was installed in the same place. Until now it is the first ditched enclosure excavated in Lisbon and North of Tagus River. The recollected artefacts typology from these two construction phases point out to a domestic occupation, with special emphasis to the abundant indented edges fragments, that points out to the same cultural phase. During the Chalcolithic this site knew had others less important domestic occupations; several fireplaces were identified in the ditch filling associated to Early and Full / Late Chalcolithic ceramics. Travessa das Dores settlement may be considered the most important prehistoric site identified and excavated in Lisbon city, according to the results we present now.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
