The aim of this article is to study the figure of the Jew in the Spanish paremiology and lexicon, as well as the negative stereotypes that characterize it. The Spanish proverbs and lexicon abound in anti-Jewish terms, expressions and outbursts. A brief historical overview is given concerning Spanish Jews, and a corpus of sayings is analyzed, in order to testify how Christians saw the Jews, distinguishing various common places that underlie this cultureme, from the image of bad blood to all kinds of religious, economic and racist accusations, which have remained reflected in the vocabulary and in the paremiological heritage. In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts of Ballota nigra subsp. uncinata (Beg.) Patzak collected in Sicily was evaluated by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry. The main components of the oil were (E)-phytol (20.0%), alpha-pinene (9.0%), hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (5.7%), and alpha-selinene (5.1%). Cluster analysis of the essential oil compositions of all the taxa belonging to B. nigra s.l. group was performed

In this note we explore the main demographic differentials in the spread and impact of COVID-19 paying special attention to the combined effect of age and gender, and to the differences at territorial level where population density plays a large role in the diffusion and outcome of the disease in terms of morbidity and mortality. The information is important for designing an exit strategy from COVID-19 and anticipating the rebound for certain segments of the population with differential medical needs, particularly those living in high-density locations.JRC.E.6-Demography, Migration and Governanc

Linguistic possession has been studied in various ways from all linguistic viewpoints, from the pioneering works of Levy-Bruhl (1914) to those in generative grammar by Velazquez (1996), in linguistic typology by Hagege (1978) and Koptjevskaja-Tamm (2002) or in cognitive grammar by Nikiforidou (1991), Heine (1997) and Pamies (2001; 2004). However, many doubts remain on that question. There is a surprisingly high cross-linguistic variation in the relation between meaning (the concept of possession) and grammatical forms (possessive and genitive constructions, prepositions, possession verbs, etc.), even within the same historical family, and there are frequent contradictions which could be explained in a simple way by applying the concept of grammatical metaphor (Halliday 1985) and taking into account contextual issues. Key words: possession, possessive constructions, dative constructions, contrastive grammar, grammatical metaphor

Ruthenium complexes bearing glucosyl ligands are able to inhibit the amyloid aggregation of short Histidine-peptides

Neurodegenerative diseases are often characterized by the formation of aggregates of amyloidogenic peptides and proteins, facilitating the formation of neurofibrillary plaques. In this study, we investigate a series of Ru-complexes sharing three-legged piano-stool structures based on the arene ring and glucosylated carbene ligands. The ability of these complexes to bind amyloid His-peptides was evaluated by ESI-MS, and their effects on the aggregation process were investigated through ThT and Tyr fluorescence emission. The complexes were demonstrated to bind the amyloidogenic peptides even with different mechanisms and kinetics depending on the chemical nature of the ligands around the Ru(II) ion. TEM analysis detected the disaggregation of typical fibers caused by the presence of Ru-compounds. Overall, our results show that the Ru-complexes can modulate the aggregation of His-amyloids and can be conceived as good lead compounds in the field of novel anti-aggregating agents in neurodegeneration
