Family functioning characteristics involved in adolescent depressive symptoms

Research has shown that family functioning contributes to depressive symptoms in adolescents, with a wide range of family functioning characteristics associated to adolescent depressive symptoms. However, these family attributes have been studied through different studies, methodologies and theoretical frameworks, and do not allow envisaging a single whole picture of the family attributes associated to adolescent depressive symptoms. The objective of this study was to overcome this deficit. We followed a systematic approach and used the Family Assessment Device (FAD), which comprehensively identify six family variables in which healthy and unhealthy families differ: Problem Solving (PS), Communication (CM), Roles (RL), Affective Responsiveness (AR), Affective Involvement (AI) and Behaviour Control (BC). Independent regression analyses conducted for each variable showed that all the FAD variables significantly predicted BDI scores. However, when the six variables were introduced simultaneously in the same equation to control for the shared explained variance, only AR and AI showed significant effects, with BC approaching significance. These results were confirmed through Prat measure, which showed that the non-overlapping effects of AR, AI and BC accounted for virtually the whole variance explained by the FAD dimensions. Conclusions at both methodological and applied levels emerge from these results. At a methodological level, these results prove the need for controlling the shared variance between family variables before deriving any conclusion about their role. At an applied level, they showed that the family affective aspects are the most important regarding adolescent depression, with only behaviour control playing a role within the non-affective variables.Universidad de Málaga. Family functioning, socio-economic status and adolescent’s depressive symptoms: the mediating role of hopelessness.

Research has shown that difficulties in family functioning contribute to developing adolescents’ depressive symptoms. Additionally, little research has been conducted in order to analyze socio-economic status (SES) differences in the relationship between family functioning and adolescent depressive symptoms. This study examined the relationships between the family variables included in the MacMaster Model of Family Functioning (MMFF), SES and depressive symptoms, as well as the mediating effects of hopelessness. Participants were 643 adolescents aged 12 to 18 years (49% male) drawn from secondary schools in Málaga (Spain). They completed the Family Assessment Device, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Beck Hopelessness Scale, and a socio-economic measure. We used conditional process analysis to test the moderation effect of gender and a dual mediation model with family functioning and hopelessness as mediators. Results showed that both family functioning as a whole and each MMFF variable, as well as SES, predicted adolescents’ depressive symptoms. In addition, gender moderated the relationship of roles assignment and behavioral control with adolescents’ depressive symptoms, which suggests the need for interventions directed to enhance family rules and boundaries, especially for boys. Finally, we found a serial mediational role of family functioning and hopelessness in the relationship between SES and depressive symptoms, suggesting that the effect of family SES on adolescents’ depressive symptoms through the development of hopelessness should also be targeted.Universidad de Málaga. τ\tau-Flavour Violation at the LHC

We study the conditions required for $\chi_2 \to \chi + \tau^\pm \mu^\mp$ decays to yield observable tau flavour violation at the LHC, for cosmologically interesting values of the neutralino relic density. Revisión teórica de la eficacia de la terapia dialéctico-conductual aplicada a los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria

OBJETIVOS: La elevada comorbilidad de los Trastornos Límite de la Personalidad (TLP) con los Trastornos de Alimentación (TA) apoya una aproximación transdiagnóstica en el abordaje terapéutico de los mismos (Faiburn, Cooper & Shafran, 2003). Por otra parte, la Terapia Dialéctico Conductual (TDC) es el único enfoque terapéutico que ha mostrado una eficacia validada para mejorar los déficits de regulación emocional (RE) que caracterizan a los TLP, siendo que dichos déficits juegan también un papel crítico en el desarrollo y mantenimiento de los síntomas en pacientes con TA. Así, el objetivo de este trabajo ha sido realizar una revisión sistemática sobre la eficacia demostrada de TDC en el tratamiento de los TA. MÉTODO: Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica mediante la introducción en bases de datos (WOS, Scopus, PsycINFO y Pubmed) de palabras-clave relacionadas con la materia, en castellano e inglés, sin restricción de fechas. Sólo se incluyeron en el trabajo los artículos de revistas con un índice de impacto significativo en Journal Citation Reports (JCR) e IN-RECS. RESULTADOS: Los resultados muestran una clara evidencia empírica de eficacia de TDC en el tratamiento de los TA con déficits en RE. Así, sus favorables resultados, en comparación con la limitada eficacia de otros procedimientos psicoterapéuticos para los TA, hacen de TDC el tratamiento psicológico de elección. CONCLUSIONES: Esta revisión muestra que TDC ofrece grandes beneficios no solo en TLP sino también en TA, destacando la eficacia de la validación del terapeuta sobre las experiencias del cliente para conseguir mejorar la RA. Estos datos apoyan, a su vez, el papel de la RA como el principal proceso que comparten TLP y ciertos tipos de TA, lo que confirma la bondad del enfoque transdiagnóstico en su tratamiento.Universidad de Málaga. On the complexity of the upgrading version of the Maximal Covering Location Problem

In this article, we study the complexity of the upgrading version of the maximal covering location problem with edge length modifications on networks. This problem is NP-hard on general networks. However, in some particular cases, we prove that this problem is solvable in polynomial time. The cases of star and path networks combined with different assumptions for the model parameters are analysed. In particular, we obtain that the problem on star networks is solvable in (Formula presented.) time for uniform weights and NP-hard for non-uniform weights. On paths, the single facility problem is solvable in (Formula presented.) time, while the (Formula presented.) -facility problem is NP-hard even with uniform costs and upper bounds (maximal upgrading per edge), as well as, integer parameter values. Furthermore, a pseudo-polynomial algorithm is developed for the single facility problem on trees with integer parameters.</p

Práctica docente y pandemia: la enseñanza de los maestros sanmigueleños en tiempos de confinamiento

Teaching practice is an aspect of education whose meaning constantly changes to respond to the diverse circumstances demanded by educational environments, especially highly technological ones. The objective is to analyze the ways in which the teaching practice of teachers from San Miguel is formed, its development within the teaching processes during confinement, and the adoption of technologies. We opted for an ethnographic study from which the interlocutors are used through interviews (open and semi-structured), in which there is a baggage of guiding questions, which make it possible to generate a broader and more diverse narrative. It was found that teachers place their work thanks to the fact of transposing to a great extent the practices of the pre-pandemic reality to the circumstances of confinement. Teachers went through a progressive process of technological adoption that evolves rapidly and then stagnates due to the technological limitations of the environment. It is concluded that the domestication of technology in San Miguel teachers was carried out in a basic way in terms of the management and use of technologies for the educational process, which meant a first approach to the acquisition of digital skills.La práctica docente es un aspecto de la educación cuyo significado cambia constantemente para responder a las circunstancias diversas que demandan los entornos educativos, sobre todo los altamente tecnologizados. El objetivo es analizar las maneras en cómo se conforma la práctica docente de los maestros sanmigueleños, su desarrollo dentro de los procesos de enseñanza durante el confinamiento, y la adopción de las tecnologías. Optamos por un estudio etnográfico desde donde se recurre a los interlocutores a través de entrevistas (abiertas y semiestructuradas), en las cuales consta un bagaje de preguntas guía, que posibilitan generar una narrativa más amplia y diversa. Se encontró que los docentes emplazan su trabajo gracias al hecho de transponer en gran magnitud las prácticas de la realidad pre pandemia hasta las circunstancias del confinamiento. Los docentes atravesaron un proceso progresivo de adopción tecnológica que evoluciona rápidamente para luego estancarse debido a las limitaciones tecnológicas del entorno. Se concluye que, la domesticación de la tecnología en los maestros sanmigueleños, se efectuó de manera básica en cuanto al manejo y uso de tecnologías para el proceso educativo, lo que significó un primer acercamiento a la adquisición de competencias digitales

Desnutrición Intrahospitalaria: ELAN – ECUADOR Hospital Guayaquil “Dr. Abel Gilbert Pontón” Guayaquil. Provincia del Guayas. 2011. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la prevalencia de desnutrición intrahospitalaria y sus determinantes socio demográficos, condición clínico-quirúrgica, hospitalización y calidad de atención. La investigación se realizó en Diciembre del 2011, con 150 pacientes hospitalizados mayores de 18 años en los Servicios de Clínica (114) y Medicina Interna (36), se realizaron dos encuestas, Valoración Global Subjetiva a cada paciente y de Calidad de Atención Nutricional en base a la Historia Clínica, el estado nutricional hospitalario se evaluó por la escala de Valoración Global Subjetiva en A: Bien Nutrido. B: Moderadamente Desnutrido y C: Gravemente Desnutrido, se recolectó información de datos sociodemográficos y clínicos quirúrgicos, el diseño de estudio fue no experimental de tipo transversal, para el análisis estadístico se utilizó el programa JMP 5.1 y para las pruebas estadísticas probabilidad, medidas de tendencia central, medidas de dispersión, chi cuadrado. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos la prevalencia de desnutrición fue del 52%; el 31 % de pacientes Gravemente Desnutridos y el 21% de pacientes Moderadamente Desnutridos. La calidad de atención nutricional fue mala. El promedio de estancia hospitalaria fue de 6 días y se observó en pacientes con Desnutrición Grave. Se concluye que la prevalencia de desnutrición en este estudio fue del 52% cercana a la encontrada en los Estudios Latinoamericanos de Nutrición (ELAN) 50,2% y mientras más tiempo de estancia hospitalaria mayor riesgo en el estado nutricional como se corrobora en este grupo investigado. Las enfermedades de base, los días de hospitalización y los días de ayuno se asociaron con los grados de desnutrición. Se recomienda conformar un equipo multidisciplinario de Terapia Nutricional para realizar la evaluación, intervención y monitoreo nutricional lo que contribuiría a mejorar las condiciones de salud de los pacientes hospitalizados.Hospital Malnutrition: ELAN - ECUADOR Guayaquil Hospital "Dr. Abel Gilbert Pontón" Guayaquil. Two surveys were conducted, Subjective Global Assessment to each patient and Quality of nutritional care based on the medical history. The state hospital nutritional was evaluated by the scale of Subjective Global Assessment with Value A: Well-nourished. Value B: moderately malnourished and value C: Severely malnourished. This information was collected on demographic data and clinical surgical and the study design was not experimental cross type. For the statistical analysis was used the JMP 5.1 program and for the statistical probability test the measures of central tendency, dispersion measures and Chi-square methods was used. According to the results obtained, the prevalence of malnutrition was 52%; 31% patients severely malnourished and 21% of patients moderately malnourished. The quality of nutritional care was poor. The average length of hospital stay was 6 days for patients with severe malnutrition. As conclusions, the prevalence of malnutrition in this study was 52% close to the one found in the Latin American Studies of Nutrition (ELAN) 50.2% and while more time of hospital stay higher risk in the nutritional status as corroborated in this group investigated. Basic diseases, hospital days and the days of fasting were associated with the degrees of malnutrition. It is recommended to create a multidisciplinary team for Nutritional Therapy to perform the evaluation, intervention and nutritional monitoring which would contribute to improving the health conditions of the hospitalized patients

Estudio de factibilidad para la creación de una empresa ensambladora y comercializadora de escobas en la ciudad de Sogamoso

Con el desarrollo de los estudios de mercado, técnico y financiero se analizará y determinará el grado de aceptación, para la creación de una empresa ensambladora y comercializadora de escobas en Sogamoso, tomando en cuenta las necesidades y expectativas detectadas en la muestra aplicada a las familias de ésta ciudad. Para este estudio se realizó una encuesta estructurada y generalizada que permitió conocer lo que los consumidores esperan del producto. El objetivo central de este estudio es detectar la existencia de un gran número de consumidores que están en condiciones de adquirir las escobas, a su vez demostrar que los proveedores actuales no cubren la demanda existente. La ensambladora y comercializadora estará ubicada en el Km. 1 vía Sogamoso-Tibasosa, esto permite llegar con el producto de forma más rápida por su ubicación más cercana. El Estudio Técnico permitirá conocer los recursos humanos y físicos necesarios para la puesta en marcha de la ensambladora y comercializadora. Interconnecting industrial multi-microgrids using bidirectional hybrid energy links

Sharing and exchange energy among nearby industrial microgrids are crucial, especially with high energy requirements for their production targets and costly energy storage systems that may be oversized for their operations. Facilitating energy exchange can provide an economic advantage for industrial production by utilizing cheaper energy sources and reducing production costs. This manuscript presents an efficient approach for transferring large energy packets with minimal energy losses using high-voltage direct current (HVDC) energy transmission. The manuscript methodology focuses on implementing an industrial multi-microgrid using a modular multilevel converter. This converter utilizes two power link channels: a three-phase AC and an HVDC link, creating a hybrid energy transmission between microgrids. When a substantial amount of energy to transfer, the HVDC method enhances overall efficiency by reducing copper losses and mitigating issues associated with the AC link, such as harmonics and skin effects. The modular multilevel converter topology offers high flexibility and the use of fewer converters. Additionally, the HVDC link eliminates distance restrictions for energy transfer between industrial microgrids. A case study illustrates the functionality of this topology, demonstrating optimized power transfer and decreased energy losses. This methodology allows industrial microgrids to enhance energy efficiency and productivity while minimizing operational costs
