Simultaneous PIXE and RBS data analysis using Bayesian Inference with the DataFurnace code
The Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS) and Particle Induced X-ray
Emission (PIXE) techniques can be used to obtain complementary information
about the characteristics of a sample but, traditionally, a gap has separated
the available computer codes for analyzing data from each technique, being hard
to simultaneously analyze data from the same sample. The recent development of
a free and open source library, LibCPIXE, for PIXE simulation and analysis of
arbitrary multilayered samples, has permitted to integrate this technique into
the DataFurnace code which already handles many other IBA techniques such as
Rutherford and non-Rutherford backscattering, elastic recoil detection, and
non-resonant nuclear reaction analysis. The fitting capabilities of DataFurnace
can therefore now be applied to PIXE spectra as well, including the Bayesian
Inference analysis and the simultaneous and coherent fitting of multiple
spectra from different techniques. Various examples are presented in which the
simultaneous RBS and PIXE analysis allows us to obtain consistent results that
cannot be obtained by independent analysis of the data from each technique.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures. Paper initially presented to IBA2005. Please

LibCPIXE: a PIXE simulation open-source library for multilayered samples
Most particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) data analysis codes are not
focused on handling multilayered samples. We have developed an open-source
library called "LibCPIXE", for PIXE data analysis. It is written in standard C
and implements functions for simulating X-ray yields of PIXE spectra taken from
arbitrary samples, including multilayered targets. The library is designed to
be fast, portable, modular and scalable, as well as to facilitate its
incorporation into any existing program. In order to demonstrate the
capabilities of the library, a program called CPIXE was developed and used to
analyze various real samples involving both bulk and layered samples. Just as
the library, the CPIXE source code is freely available under the General Public
License. We demonstrate that it runs both under GNU/Linux systems as well as
under MS Windows. There is in principle no limitation to port it to other
platforms
Nanocomposite Thin Films Resulting from Au Nanoclusters Dispersed in Titanium Oxide Dielectric Matrixes: the Surface Plasmon Resonance Effect
Analytical simulation of RBS spectra of nanowire samples
Almost all, if not all, general purpose codes for analysis of Ion Beam Analysis data have been originally developed to handle laterally homogeneous samples only. This is the case of RUMP, NDF, SIMNRA, and even of the Monte Carlo code Corteo. General-purpose codes usually include only limited support for lateral inhomogeneity. In this work, we show analytical simulations of samples that consist of a layer of parallel oriented nanowires on a substrate, using a model implemented in NDF. We apply the code to real samples, made of vertical ZnO nanowires on a sapphire substrate. Two configurations of the nanowires were studied: 40 nm diameter, 4.1 μm height, 3.5% surface coverage; and 55 nm diameter, 1.1 μm height, 42% surface coverage. We discuss the accuracy and limits of applicability of the analysisAuthors thank funding from projects CTQ2014-53334-C2-2-R (MINECO, Spain) and NANOAVANSENS S2013/MIT 3029 (Comunidad de Madrid). Overview of the JET ITER-like wall divertor
The work presented draws on new analysis of components removed following the second JET ITER-like wall campaign 2013–14 concentrating on the upper inner divertor, inner and outer divertor corners, life- time issues relating to tungsten coatings on JET carbon fibre composite divertor tiles and dust/particulate generation. The results show that the upper inner divertor remains the region of highest deposition in the JET-ILW. Variations in plasma configurations between the first and second campaign have altered ma- terial migration to the corners of the inner and outer divertor. Net deposition is shown to be beneficial in the sense that it reduces W coating erosion, covers small areas of exposed carbon surfaces and even encapsulates particles.EURATOM 633053RCUK Energy Programme EP/I50104
Assessment of erosion, deposition and fuel retention in the JET-ILW divertor from ion beam analysis data
Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Plasma Surface Interactions 2016, 22nd PSI.Post-mortem analyses of individual components provide relevant information on plasma-surface interactions like tungsten erosion, beryllium deposition and plasma fuel retention with divertor tiles via implantation or co-deposition. Ion Beam techniques are ideal tools for such purposes and have been extensively used for post-mortem analyses of selected tiles from JET following each campaign. In this contribution results from tiles removed from the JET ITER-Like Wall (JET-ILW) divertor following the 2013–2014 campaign are presented. The results summarize erosion, deposition and fuel retention along the poloidal cross section of the divertor surface and provide data for comparison with the first JET-ILW campaign, showing a similar pattern of material migration with the exception of Tile 6 where the strike point time on the tile was ∼ 4 times longer in 2013–2014 than in 2011–2012, which is likely to account for more material migration to this region. The W deposition on top of the Mo marker coating of Tile 4 shows that the enrichment takes place at the strike point location.Peer reviewe
Composition measurement of epitaxial Sc<inf>x</inf>Ga<inf>1-x</inf>N films
Four different methods for measuring the compositions of epitaxial ScxGa1-xN films were assessed and compared to determine which was the most reliable and accurate. The compositions of epitaxial ScxGa1-xN films with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.26 were measured directly using Rutherford backscattering (RBS) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and indirectly using c lattice parameter measurements from x-ray diffraction and c/a ratio measurements from electron diffraction patterns. RBS measurements were taken as a standard reference. XPS was found to underestimate the Sc content, whereas c lattice parameter and c/a ratio were not reliable for composition determination due to the unknown degree of strain relaxation in the film. However, the Sc flux used during growth was found to relate linearly with x and could be used to estimate the Sc content
Surface analysis of tiles and samples exposed to the first JET campaigns with the ITER-Like Wall
This paper reports on the first post-mortem analyses of tiles removed from
JET after the first campaigns with the ITER-like Wall (ILW) during 2011-2 [1].
Tiles from the divertor have been analysed by the Ion Beam Analysis (IBA)
techniques Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS) and Nuclear Reaction
Analysis (NRA) and by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) to determine the
amount of beryllium deposition and deuterium retention in the tiles exposed to
the scrape-off layer. Films 10-20 microns thick were present at the top of Tile
1, but only very thin films (<1 micron) were found in the shadowed areas and on
other divertor tiles. The total amount of Be found in the divertor following
the ILW campaign was a factor of ~9 less that the material deposited in the
2007-9 carbon campaign, after allowing for the longer operations in 2007-9.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures. This is an author-created, un-copyedited version

High power impulse magnetron sputtering of thin films for superconducting RF cavities
The production of superconducting coatings for radio
frequency cavities is a rapidly developing field that
should ultimately lead to acceleration gradients greater
than those obtained by bulk Nb RF cavities. The use of
thin films made from superconductors with
thermodynamic critical field, Hc>Hn/cb, allows the
possibility of multilayer superconductor – insulator –
superconductor (SIS) films and also accelerators that
could operate at temperatures above the 2 K typically
used. SIS films theoretically allow increased acceleration
gradient due to magnetic shielding of underlying
superconducting layers [1] and higher operating
temperature can reduce cost [2]. High impulse magnetron
sputtering (HiPIMS) and pulsed DC magnetron sputtering
processes were used to deposit NbN and NbTiN thin films
onto Si(100) substrate. The films were characterised using
scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction
(XRD), Rutherford back-scattering spectroscopy (RBS)
and a four point probe
