    Review of Fuel Management practices at various stages of nuclear fuel cycle in PHWRs in view of Environmental effects

    Nuclear Power is emerging as a promising source of environmentally benign energy source alternate from both pollution free environment as well as solution to global warming because of minimal carbon footprint. However, release of radiation and radioactive contamination during fuel cycle operations comprising the optimum fuel utilization in Nuclear Reactors, still remains a challenge to contain the sources of radiation and contamination away from public domain. This review article envisages qualitatively the environmental effects w.r.t. radiation during flow of Natural Uranium fuel used in Indian Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (IPHWRs) at various stages of mining, fabrication, transportation, operation in nuclear reactors, and storage after operation. The review has been completed by detailed compilation and study of the involved activities in the nuclear fuel cycle. Advanced modelling and computational analysis techniques are being employed at various stages, which form the basis for various administrative and technical measures to ensure minimal radiation exposure. It is concluded that organizations engaged in these activities are committed to minimum environmental impact and follow a safety culture in their system and among workers to ensure best administrative control in handling of radiation and radiation sources to limit exposure to public domain. In view of the limitations of LNT (Linear No Threshold) principle and the presence of radiation due to natural sources in the environment, it is desirable to revisit the provisions of ALARA principle (As low as reasonably achievable) as presently being followed in carrying out any activity related to radiation and radiation sources

    During this pandemic we have seen rise in popularity of online learning platforms. In this paper, we are going to discuss E-Learning using analytics and deep learning focusing on mainly four objectives which are login systems for teachers and students, Gamification to engage learners, AR contents to increase the involvement of learners and learning analytics to develop competency. We will use Data Mining and Buisness Intelligence to extract high level knowledge from the raw data of students. To predict engagement of students we have used several ML algorithms. This study provides an introduction to the technology of AR and E-Learning systems. The main focus of this paper is to use research on augmented reality and integrate it with Buisness Intelligence and Data Mining(DM). Engaging student till the end of the course became really difficult for traditional E-Learning Platform. Therefore, Gamification in E-learning is good way to solve this problem

    A Study of Sexual Dysfunction and Quality of Life in Female Patients on Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI)

    Context: Sexual dysfunction is one of the most common and disconcerting side effect during treatment with Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Sexual side effects from these medications have significant impact on self esteem, quality of life and can lead to non compliance and relapse in long term treatment. Aims: To study prevalence, severity of sexual dysfunction and its possible association with quality of life in female patients on treatment with SSRI for depression and anxiety. Materials and Methods: This was an observational, cross sectional, single-centre study. Hundred consecutive female patients who were sexually active, on SSRIs for six weeks or more were recruited. Diagnosis of Major depressive disorder (MDD), Anxiety disorders and female sexual dysfunction was done by clinician administered interview as per Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders (DSM 5). The patients were further assessed for demographic details, CSFQ-F-C, HAM-D, HAM-A and WHOQOL-BREF scales for sexual dysfunction, depression, anxiety and quality of life respectively. p value of <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: Prevalence of sexual dysfunction was 84%. Patients with sexual dysfunction scored significantly lower value in social relationships (p= 0.0002) and environment (p= 0.033) domains of quality of life. Frequency of sexual dysfunction among patients on fluoxetine was 86.20%, on escitalopram was 86.76% and on sertraline was 66.6%. Frequency of sexual dysfunction was more with higher dose of SSRIs. Conclusions: Patients on various SSRIs experienced sexual dysfunction and had poor quality of life. Frequency of sexual dysfunction was more with higher doses of SSRIs

But India is unable to exploit the World market due to unsatisfactory system of quality control which necessitates the establishment of standards for herbal single drugs and compound formulations. In order to ensure international community to use AYUSH drugs with confidence and without compunction, developing acceptable quality control standards of herbal medicines aims to ensure their consistency, safety and efficacy with good manufacturing practices is very much essential. Study of chemical markers is applicable to many research areas, including authentication of genuine species, search for new resources or substitutes of raw materials, optimization of extraction and purification methods, structure elucidation and purity determination.     Cross-species gene expression analysis of species specific differences in the preclinical assessment of pharmaceutical compounds

    Animals are frequently used as model systems for determination of safety and efficacy in pharmaceutical research and development. However, significant quantitative and qualitative differences exist between humans and the animal models used in research. This is as a result of genetic variation between human and the laboratory animal. Therefore the development of a system that would allow the assessment of all molecular differences between species after drug exposure would have a significant impact on drug evaluation for toxicity and efficacy. Here we describe a cross-species microarray methodology that identifies and selects orthologous probes after cross-species sequence comparison to develop an orthologous cross-species gene expression analysis tool. The assumptions made by the use of this orthologous gene expression strategy for cross-species extrapolation is that; conserved changes in gene expression equate to conserved pharmacodynamic endpoints. This assumption is supported by the fact that evolution and selection have maintained the structure and function of many biochemical pathways over time, resulting in the conservation of many important processes.     Microtubule severing enzymes regulate microtubule dynamics in a wide range of organisms and are implicated in important cell cycle processes such as mitotic spindle assembly and disassembly, chromosome movement and cytokinesis. Here we explore the function of several microtubule severing enzyme homologues, the katanins (KAT80, KAT60a, KAT60b and KAT60c), spastin (SPA) and fidgetin (FID) in the bloodstream stage of the African trypanosome parasite, Trypanosoma brucei. The trypanosome cytoskeleton is microtubule based and remains assembled throughout the cell cycle, necessitating its remodelling during cytokinesis. Using RNA interference to deplete individual proteins, we show that the trypanosome katanin and spastin homologues are non-redundant and essential for bloodstream form proliferation. Further, cell cycle analysis revealed that these proteins play essential but discrete roles in cytokinesis. The KAT60 proteins each appear to be important during the early stages of cytokinesis, while downregulation of KAT80 specifically inhibited furrow ingression and SPA depletion prevented completion of abscission. In contrast, RNA interference of FID did not result in any discernible effects.     Novel insights into the cardio-protective effects of FGF21 in lean and obese rat hearts

    Aims: Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is a hepatic metabolic regulator with pleotropic actions. Its plasma concentrations are increased in obesity and diabetes; states associated with an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease. We therefore investigated the direct effect of FGF21 on cardio-protection in obese and lean hearts in response to ischemia. Methods and Results: FGF21, FGF21-receptor 1 (FGFR1) and beta-Klotho (βKlotho) were expressed in rodent, human hearts and primary rat cardiomyocytes. Cardiac FGF21 was expressed and secreted (real time RT-PCR/western blot and ELISA) in an autocrine-paracrine manner, in response to obesity and hypoxia, involving FGFR1-βKlotho components. Cardiac-FGF21 expression and secretion were increased in response to global ischemia. In contrast βKlotho was reduced in obese hearts. In isolated adult rat cardiomyocytes, FGF21 activated PI3K/Akt (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt), ERK1/2(extracellular signal-regulated kinase) and AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) pathways. In Langendorff perfused rat [adult male wild-type wistar] hearts, FGF21 administration induced significant cardio-protection and restoration of function following global ischemia. Inhibition of PI3K/Akt, AMPK, ERK1/2 and ROR-α (retinoic-acid receptor alpha) pathway led to significant decrease of FGF21 induced cardio-protection and restoration of cardiac function in response to global ischemia. More importantly, this cardio-protective response induced by FGF21 was reduced in obesity, although the cardiac expression profiles and circulating FGF21 levels were increased. Conclusion: In an ex vivo Langendorff system, we show that FGF21 induced cardiac protection and restoration of cardiac function involving autocrine-paracrine pathways, with reduced effect in obesity. Collectively, our findings provide novel insights into FGF21-induced cardiac effects in obesity and ischemia
