On Preserving the Technogenic Formations of Mining and Smelting Enterprises by Ecologically safe Conservation and Restoration of Landscapes

    Get PDF
The mining and smelting industries use various schemes for collecting and treating the surface waters during mining and after its completion, including the use of facilities for deep-treatment of part of the water for reuse in the enterprise. However, the mining sites are often remote from the processing and metallurgical enterprises where these treated waters could be used. Therefore, the problem of effective protection of the environment from negative influence can be solved by application of new technical solutions for conservation/re-cultivation of host and overburden masses moved to the surface. Keywords: technogenic formations, ecologically safe conservation, restoration of landscape

Terahertz radiation due to random grating coupled surface plasmon polaritons

We report on terahertz (THz) radiation under electrical pumping from a degenerate semiconductor possessing an electron accumulation layer. In InN, the random grating formed by topographical defects provides high-efficiency coupling of surface plasmon polaritons supported by the accumulation layer to the THz emission. The principal emission band occupies the 2-6 THz spectral range. We establish a link between the shape of emission spectra and the structural factor of the random grating and show that the change of slope of power dependencies is characteristic for temperature-dependent plasmonic mechanisms. The super-linear rise of a THz emission intensity on applied electric power provides advantage of such materials in emission yield.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Delay and distortion of slow light pulses by excitons in ZnO

Light pulses propagating through ZnO undergo distortions caused by both bound and free excitons. Numerous lines of bound excitons dissect the pulse and induce slowing of light around them, to the extend dependent on their nature. Exciton-polariton resonances determine the overall pulse delay and attenuation. The delay time of the higher-energy edge of a strongly curved light stripe approaches 1.6 ns at 3.374 eV with a 0.3 mm propagation length. Modelling the data of cw and time-of-flight spectroscopies has enabled us to determine the excitonic parameters, inherent for bulk ZnO. We reveal the restrictions on these parameters induced by the light attenuation, as well as a discrepancy between the parameters characterizing the surface and internal regions of the crystal.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

The article is devoted to the study of the psychosomatic characteristics of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The study has been divided into 3 stages. The purpose of the first stage was to study the leading personality traits and prevailing types of attitude towards the disease in patients with RA and AS. The purpose of the second stage was to study the role of the social factor in RA patients based on the family pattern, to identify the relationship of intra-family problems with the duration and degree of the disease activity, the level of education. The third stage was aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of biobehavioral therapy for the correction of pain in patients with RA. Material and methods. The contingent study consisted of patients with a reliable diagnosis of rheumatoid RA and AS, stage 1 – 26 patients (20 men, 6 women), stage 2 – 14 patients (11 women, 3 men), stage 3 – 46 women with RA. The patients underwent clinical, laboratory, X-ray examination. Psychological questionnaires and the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) were used. Results.: Hypochondria, increased anxiety, emotional immaturity, men’s behavioral characteristics in women have been revealed at the first stage of the study. In men with RA, the leading features are hypochondria, emotional immaturity. Types of attitude to the disease in women were: ergopathic 79 %, harmonious 37 %, neurasthenic 32 %; in men: ergopathic 57 %. The significant intercorrelation between the disease duration in women and the ergopathic and harmonious type of attitude toward the disease was found. The second stage of the study allowed the RA group to identify alienation, unwillingness and inability to independently solve family problems. According to the results of the third stage of the study, it was found that the patient’s acquired ability to control the alpha rhythm voluntarily allowed them to control the intensity of the pain syndrome and reduce the need for taking high doses of NSAIDs. A reduction of feelings of helplessness, hopelessness has been achieved. Conclusions. The study revealed psychological and social problems in patients with RA and AS, substantiating an interdisciplinary approach in the management of the patients with the rheumatologist and psychotherapist participation. Modern possibilities of psychotherapy can reduce the pharmacological burden in the treatment process

Innovative Production Technology of Drinks from Grape Cryopowders

    Get PDF
A technology, based on the production of wine beverages from grape cryopowders in the mountain-valley zone of the Republic of Dagestan, is proposed. The data on the vacuum microwave drying of grape raw materials and subsequent grinding in a cryomill are presented. The modes of grape raw material preparation and its subsequent dehydration and cryo-grinding, which provide the possibility of successful use in the dried state in the production technology of wine drinks, are proposed. The principal feature is the use of whole grapes as a raw material, with rinds and seeds. The physical and chemical indicators, the content of phenolic substances and the organoleptic indicators of wine beverages made according to the traditional technology and the beverage made from grape cryopowders were studied. A comparative assessment of beverages was made. It is established that vacuum microwave drying conduces to better preservation of the properties of raw materials and finished products. The organoleptic assessment showed that the wine drinks developed according to the proposed technology had a more intense color and a more pronounced flavor of sweetness and sourness than traditional wine beverages. The advantage of this technology is the ability to transport grape cryopowders in unregulated temperature conditions to any point close to the consumer and carry out the production of wine beverages there

Excitonic parameters of GaN studied by time-of-flight spectroscopy

We refine excitonic parameters of bulk GaN by means of time-of-flight spectroscopy of light pulses propagating through crystals. The influence of elastic photon scattering is excluded by using the multiple reflections of the pulses from crystal boundaries. The shapes of these reflexes in the time-energy plane depict the variation of the group velocity induced by excitonic resonances. Modeling of the shapes, as well as other spectra, shows that a homogeneous width of the order of 10 \mu eV characterizes the exciton-polariton resonances within the crystal. The oscillator strength of A and B exciton-polaritons is determined as 0.0022 and 0.0016, respectively.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure
