    Nuclear Structure and Response based on Correlated Realistic NN Interactions

    Starting from the Argonne V18 nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction and using the Unitary Correlation Operator Method, a correlated interaction v_UCOM has been constructed, which is suitable for calculations within restricted Hilbert spaces. In this work we employ the v_UCOM in Hartree-Fock, perturbation-theory and RPA calculations and we study the ground-state properties of various closed-shell nuclei, as well as some excited states. The present calculations provide also important feedback for the optimization of the v_UCOM and valuable information on its properties. The above scheme offers the prospect of ab initio calculations in nuclei, regardless of their mass number. It can be used in conjunction with other realistic NN interactions as well, and with various many-body methods (Second RPA, QRPA, Shell Model, etc.).Comment: 3 pages, incl. 2 figures; Proc. Int.     The Unitary Correlation Operator Method (UCOM) provides a means for nuclear structure calculations starting from realistic NN potentials. The dominant short-range central and tensor correlations are described explicitly by a unitary transformation. The application of UCOM in the context of the no-core shell model provides insight into the interplay between dominant short-range and residual long-range correlations in the nuclear many-body problem.     Evaluating Marketing Channel Options for Small-Scale Fruit and Vegetable Producers: Case Study Evidence from Central New York

    An investigation of the relative costs and benefits of marketing channels used by typical small-scale diversified vegetable crop producers is conducted. Using case study evidence from four small farms in Central New York, this study compares the performance of wholesale and direct marketing channels, including how the factors of risk, owner and paid labor, price, lifestyle preferences, and sales volume interact to impact optimal market channel selection. Given the highly perishable nature of the crops grown, along with the risks and potential sales volume of particular channels, a combination of different marketing channels is needed to maximize overall firm performance.     Group Strategyproof Pareto-Stable Marriage with Indifferences via the Generalized Assignment Game

    We study the variant of the stable marriage problem in which the preferences of the agents are allowed to include indifferences. We present a mechanism for producing Pareto-stable matchings in stable marriage markets with indifferences that is group strategyproof for one side of the market. Our key technique involves modeling the stable marriage market as a generalized assignment game. We also show that our mechanism can be implemented efficiently. These results can be extended to the college admissions problem with indifferences

    Ballistic heat transport of quantum spin excitations as seen in SrCuO2

    Fundamental conservation laws predict ballistic, i.e., dissipationless transport behaviour in one-dimensional quantum magnets. Experimental evidence, however, for such anomalous transport has been lacking ever since. Here we provide experimental evidence for ballistic heat transport in a S=1/2 Heisenberg chain. In particular, we investigate high purity samples of the chain cuprate SrCuO2 and observe a huge magnetic heat conductivity κmag\kappa_{mag}. An extremely large spinon mean free path of more than a micrometer demonstrates that κmag\kappa_{mag} is only limited by extrinsic scattering processes which is a clear signature of ballistic transport in the underlying spin model
