Complex Scaled Spectrum Completeness for Coupled Channels
The Complex Scaling Method (CSM) provides scattering wave functions which
regularize resonances and suggest a resolution of the identity in terms of such
resonances, completed by the bound states and a smoothed continuum. But, in the
case of inelastic scattering with many channels, the existence of such a
resolution under complex scaling is still debated. Taking advantage of results
obtained earlier for the two channel case, this paper proposes a representation
in which the convergence of a resolution of the identity can be more easily
tested. The representation is valid for any finite number of coupled channels
for inelastic scattering without rearrangement.Comment: Latex file, 13 pages, 4 eps-figure
Optimal Point-to-Point Trajectory Tracking of Redundant Manipulators using Generalized Pattern Search
Optimal point-to-point trajectory planning for planar redundant manipulator
is considered in this study. The main objective is to minimize the sum of the
position error of the end-effector at each intermediate point along the
trajectory so that the end-effector can track the prescribed trajectory
accurately. An algorithm combining Genetic Algorithm and Pattern Search as a
Generalized Pattern Search GPS is introduced to design the optimal trajectory.
To verify the proposed algorithm, simulations for a 3-D-O-F planar manipulator
with different end-effector trajectories have been carried out. A comparison
between the Genetic Algorithm and the Generalized Pattern Search shows that The
GPS gives excellent tracking performance.Comment: www.ars-journal.co
Correlates of male involvement in maternal and newborn health: a cross-sectional study of men in a peri-urban region of Myanmar
Background: Evidence suggests that increasing male involvement in maternal and newborn health (MNH) may improve MNH outcomes. However, male involvement is difficult to measure, and further research is necessary to understand the barriers and enablers for men to engage in MNH, and to define target groups for interventions. Using data from a peri-urban township in Myanmar, this study aimed to construct appropriate indicators of male involvement in MNH, and assess sociodemographic, knowledge and attitude correlates of involvement.
Methods: A cross-sectional study of married men with one or more children aged up to one year was conducted in 2012. Structured questionnaires measured participants’ involvement in MNH, and their sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge and attitudes. An ordinal measure of male involvement was constructed describing the subject’s participation across five areas of MNH, giving a score of 1–4. Proportional-odds regression models were developed to determine correlates of male involvement.
Results: A total of 210 men participated in the survey, of which 203 provided complete data. Most men reported involvement level scores of either 2 or 3 (64 %), with 13 % reporting the highest level (score of 4). Involvement in MNH was positively associated with wives’ level of education (AOR = 3.4; 95 % CI: 1.9-6.2; p \u3c 0.001) and men’s level of knowledge of MNH (AOR = 1.2; 95 % CI: 1.1-1.3; p \u3c 0.001), and negatively correlated with number of children (AOR = 0.78; 95 % CI: 0.63-0.95; p = 0.016).
Conclusions: These findings can inform the design of programs aiming to increase male involvement, for example by targeting less educated couples and addressing their knowledge of MNH. The composite index proved a useful summary measure of involvement; however, it may have masked differential determinants of the summed indicators. There is a need for greater understanding of the influence of gender attitudes on male involvement in Myanmar and more robust indicators that capture these gender dynamics for use both in Myanmar and globally
Comprehensive application of a coupled-channel complex scaling method to the KbarN-piY system
We have applied the coupled-channel complex scaling method (ccCSM) to
K^{bar}N-\pi Y system. One advantage of ccCSM is that resonant states as well
as scattering states can be treated in the same framework. For the interactions
in the system, we have constructed a meson-baryon potential-matrix by basing on
the chiral SU(3) theory and respecting the K^{bar}N scattering length obtained
in the Martin's analysis. For future purpose to apply it more complicated
system such as K^{bar}NN, we adopt a local Gaussian form in the r-space. We
have investigated both the non-relativistic (NR) and the semi-relativistic (SR)
kinematics. In the SR case, two types of the potentials are obtained. To test
the constructed potentials, we have calculated scattering amplitudes and
searched resonances. One resonance pole, corresponding to \Lambda(1405), is
found in isospin I=0 system around (1419, -20) MeV ((1425, -25) or (1419, -13)
MeV) on complex-energy plane with the NR (SR) kinematics. Mean distance between
meson and baryon in the resonant state is 1.3 - i0.3 fm (1.2 - i0.5 fm) for NR
(SR), in which the states are treated as Gamow states. In addition, we have
observed a signature of another pole in lower-energy region involving large
decay width, although they are unstable against the change of scaling angle
\theta. This may correspond to the lower pole of the double-pole of
\Lambda(1405) discussed in literature to date.Comment: 51 pages, 17 figures, to appear in Nuclear Physics
Chronic periodontitis patients: their knowledge and its correlation with oral health related quality of life
Level of periodontal diseases knowledge was evaluated among 80 chronic periodontitis (PD) patients and its correlation with patients’ self-perceive OHQoL was investigated. The Malay version of OHQoL-UK was used. Patients’ with high knowledge of PD were of severe chronic periodontitis group (p>0.05); Malay (p<0.05) and had higher economic status (p<0.05). However majority of the high knowledge group perceived no effect of the PD on their OHQoL (p<0.05). Despite that, significant correlation but at lower strength was found between patients’ knowledge and the social aspects of OHQoL [r=0.249, p<0.05]. There were significant different in level of PD knowledge between chronic periodontitis patients with different perception on OHQoL
Klauder's coherent states for the radial Coulomb problem in a uniformly curved space and their flat-space limits
First a set of coherent states a la Klauder is formally constructed for the
Coulomb problem in a curved space of constant curvature. Then the flat-space
limit is taken to reduce the set for the radial Coulomb problem to a set of
hydrogen atom coherent states corresponding to both the discrete and the
continuous portions of the spectrum for a fixed \ell sector.Comment: 10 pages, no figure
Analysis of the Caenorhabditis elegans innate immune response to Coxiella burnetii
The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is well established as a system for characterization and discovery of molecular mechanisms mediating microbe-specific inducible innate immune responses to human pathogens. Coxiella burnetii is an obligate intracellular bacterium that causes a flu-like syndrome in humans (Q fever), as well as abortions in domesticated livestock, worldwide. Initially, when wild type C. elegans (N2 strain) was exposed to mCherry-expressing C. burnetii (CCB) a number of overt pathological manifestations resulted, including intestinal distension, deformed anal region and a decreased lifespan. However, nematodes fed autoclave-killed CCB did not exhibit these symptoms. Although vertebrates detect C. burnetii via TLRs, pathologies in tol-1(-) mutant nematodes were indistinguishable from N2, and indicate nematodes do not employ this orthologue for detection of C. burnetii. sek-1(-) MAP kinase mutant nematodes succumbed to infection faster, suggesting that this signaling pathway plays a role in immune activation, as previously shown for orthologues in vertebrates during a C. burnetii infection. C. elegans daf-2(-) mutants are hyper-immune and exhibited significantly reduced pathological consequences during challenge. Collectively, these results demonstrate the utility of C. elegans for studying the innate immune response against C. burnetii and could lead to discovery of novel methods for prevention and treatment of disease in humans and livestock
Origin of three-body resonances
We expose the relation between the properties of the three-body continuum
states and their two-body subsystems. These properties refer to their bound and
virtual states and resonances, all defined as poles of the -matrix. For one
infinitely heavy core and two non-interacting light particles, the complex
energies of the three-body poles are the sum of the two two-body complex
pole-energies. These generic relations are modified by center-of-mass effects
which alone can produce a Borromean system. We show how the three-body states
evolve in He, Li, and Be when the nucleon-nucleon interaction is
continuously switched on. The schematic model is able to reproduce the main
properties in their spectra. Realistic calculations for these nuclei are shown
in detail for comparison. The implications of a core with non-zero spin are
investigated and illustrated for Ne (O+p+p). Dimensionless units
allow predictions for systems of different scales.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure
India (Tethyan Himalaya Series) in central Myanmar: implications for the evolution of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis and the Sagaing transform-fault system
In the Katha Range of central Myanmar, lithologic tracers and pressure-temperature-deformation time data identify Cambro-Ordovician, Indian-affinity Tethyan Himalaya Series, located ∼700 km from their easternmost outcrop in S-Tibet, and ∼450 km from Himalayan rocks in the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis. Metamorphism began at ∼65 Ma, peaked at ∼45 Ma (∼510°C, 0.93 GPa), and exhumation/cooling (∼25°C/ Myr) occurred until ∼30 Ma in a subduction-early collision tectonic setting. When the Burma microplate-part of the intra-Tethyan Incertus arc-accreted to SE-Asia, its eastern boundary, the southern continuation of the Indus-Yarlung suture (IYS), was reactivated as the Sagaing fault (SF), which propagated northward into Indian rocks. In the Katha rocks, this strike-slip stage is marked by ∼4°C/Myr exhumation/cooling. Restoring the SF system defines a continental collision-oceanic subduction transition junction, where the IYS bifurcates into the SF at the eastern edge of the Burma microplate and the Jurassic ophiolite-Jadeite belts that include the Incertus-arc suture
