Interactive and Child-Centred Research Methods for Investigating Efficacious Agency of Children

Children need support to strengthen their efficacious agency, which, in turn, in-creases their well-being and learning capabilities. Efficacious agency includes the idea of chil-dren’s active participation, and in research, it is necessary to develop multiple methods for a child-centered approach for examining it. In this article, we present two case studies of chil-dren’s (aged 6 to 10) perceptions of success. The first is comprised of stimulated recall inter-views and a video observation, and the second uses children’s photographs as triggers for elici-tation interviews. We aim at showing that interactive and child-centered methods in authentic environments can overcome current challenges in studying children, and can produce deeper knowledge about children’s efficacious agency in learning contexts

Savonlinnan seurakunnan vapaaehtoistyön kehittäminen

Diakonia-ammattikorkeakoulu, Sosiaalialan koulutusohjelma, sosionomi (AMK)- diakoni. Opinnäytetyömme oli työelämälähtöinen kvalitatiivinen tutkimus Savonlinnan seurakunnan vapaaehtoistyöstä. Savonlinnan seurakunnan työyhteisössä oli keskustelua, että tällaisen tutkimuksen teettäminen olisi hyödyllinen tehdä, jotta he saisivat selville miten vapaaehtoistyötä tulisi kehittää. Tutkimuksemme tavoitteena oli saada vapaaehtoistyön kehittämisen mahdollisuus selville Savonlinnan seurakunnassa. Aineistona käytimme Savonlinnan seurakunnan työntekijöille teettämän kyselyn vastauksia. Kirjallisuutta olemme etsineet opinnäytetyömme avainsanoihin kohdistuvaa kirjallisuutta. Teetimme aiheesta kvalitatiivisen tutkimuksen. Halusimme tehdä kyselyn avoimilla kysymyksillä. Mietimme kysymykset sen pohjalta mitä halusimme tietää ja tämän jälkeen lähetimme kyselyn vastaajille Webropolin kautta. Savonlinnan seurakunnan työntekijät arvostavat suuresti vapaaehtoisten panostusta. Vapaaehtoiset ovat iso voimavara seurakunnassa ja ilman heitä seurakunnan toimintaa ei voi tehdä niin suurella kapasiteetilla. Savonlinnan seurakunnan tulisi keskittyä yhteen vapaaehtoispalveluun ja kehittää siitä kaikkia osapuolia palveleva yhteneväinen toiminta. Tutkimuksessamme nousi esille työntekijöiden erilaisia ideoita siitä miten vapaaehtoisia voisi hyödyntää eri työaloilla erilaisissa tehtävissä. Tutkimuksessa nousi esille myös tarve tehtävän vapaaehtoistyön kartoituksesta ja vapaaehtoisten kouluttamisesta. Tutkimuksemme vastauksia analysoidessamme tulimme siihen tulokseen, että moni vastaajista pitää vapaaehtoistyötä erittäin tärkeänä ja toimivana, mutta kokevat myös sen kehittämiselle suuren tarpeen, jotta se toimisi jatkossa entistä paremmin. Our thesis was a qualitative work-oriented research of the Savonlinna church volunteer work. Church’s work community had discussed that this kind of research would be useful, so they could find out how to improve their voluntary work. Our goal in our research was to find possibilities to improve the voluntary work. Our research material was the result of survey made by the church for their employees. The literature we used was found using keywords from our thesis. Qualitative research was made on the subject. We wanted to do the survey with open questions. We based our questions on what we needed to know and sent survey to employees through the Webropol. Savonlinna church employees greatly appreciate the efforts of voluntary workers. Volunteers are a big asset to the church and church could not do their work at such a capacity without them. Church should focus on one voluntary service and develop it into uniform service that could serve all parties. Different ideas how volunteers should be made use of in different work areas and jobs rose in our research. The need to map the voluntary work and train the volunteers was one point of our research. When analyzing answers to our survey, the conclusion was that while many respondents think that voluntary work is very important and utilitarian, they still think that it should be developed further to make it work even better.
