Filiera della canapa industriale (Cannabis sativa L.): sfide e nuove opportunità

    Get PDF

    Single-pixel, single-photon three-dimensional imaging

The 3D recovery of a scene is a crucial task with many real-life applications such as self-driving vehicles, X-ray tomography and virtual reality. The recent development of time-resolving detectors sensible to single photons allowed the recovery of the 3D information at high frame rate with unprecedented capabilities. Combined with a timing system, single-photon sensitive detectors allow the 3D image recovery by measuring the Time-of-Flight (ToF) of the photons scattered back by the scene with a millimetre depth resolution. Current ToF 3D imaging techniques rely on scanning detection systems or multi-pixel sensor. Here, we discuss an approach to simplify the hardware complexity of the current 3D imaging ToF techniques using a single-pixel, single-photon sensitive detector and computational imaging algorithms. The 3D imaging approaches discussed in this thesis do not require mechanical moving parts as in standard Lidar systems. The single-pixel detector allows to reduce the pixel complexity to a single unit and offers several advantages in terms of size, flexibility, wavelength range and cost. The experimental results demonstrate the 3D image recovery of hidden scenes with a subsecond acquisition time, allowing also non-line-of-sight scenes 3D recovery in real-time. We also introduce the concept of intelligent Lidar, a 3D imaging paradigm based uniquely on the temporal trace of the return photons and a data-driven 3D retrieval algorithm

The present study examined information-processing (IP) deficits specific to the ability of individuals with Asperger\u27s disorder (AD) to interpret and respond to nonverbal and verbal information inherent in social relationships as it relates to working memory capacity. Sixty boys between the ages of 11.0 and 15.7 years (30 diagnosed with AD [Group A], and 30 typically developing, same-age peers [Group T]) were assessed using the Working Memory Test Battery for Children (WMTB-C). The present study combined theories from cognitive, neurological, and clinical psychology, isolated specific working memory components, and identified a connection between working memory capacity and the social skill deficiencies of individuals with AD. Three working memory scores (i.e., verbal [PL], visual-spatial [VSSP], and complex [CE]) were compared between the two groups using ANOVA. All working memory differences examined between the two groups in the present study were statistically different. The effect sizes of differences between Groups A and T for PL, VSSP, and CE were .397, .279, and .627, respectively. The results of the present study support the hypothesis that working memory is a specific IP deficit of individuals with AD. Findings suggest that by targeting remedial efforts to enhance working memory capacity, individuals with AD can more effectively engage in complex IP tasks, participate in reciprocal social interactions, and thereby create social change. Future research needs to expand upon the connection between working memory capacity and the social deficiencies of individuals with Asperger\u27s disorder

Combustion of a coal char particle in a stream of dry gas.

The burning rate, surface temperature, drag, and extinction conditions of a single char particle moving in a gas are computed numerically. The effects of the size and velocity of the particle and of the temperature and composition of the gas are examined in the framework of a simple model that includes O2 and CO2 heterogeneous reactions and, in some cases, a diffusion-controlled CO oxidation flame in the gas around the particle. In agreement with known results, the burning rate is found to increase with the velocity of the particle when the Reynolds number of the gas flow ceases to be small. The temperature of the particle increases with the temperature and oxygen mass fraction of the gas and is little affected by the size and velocity of the particle, except in the vicinity of extinction. The drag coefficient is a decreasing function of the particle size and velocity in the range of Reynolds numbers that has been analyzed. The presence of CO2 in the gas may have an important effect on the gasification of small particles

Nudge practices: A smart and cheap way to manage human resources

There is a new strand of literature that argues about the possibility to construct some HR practices using insights from behavioral science. These practices are manly inspired by the nudge theory formulated by Thaler and Sunstein (2008). A nudge is something that aims to alter people predictable behavior in order to protect their interests, but without restricting people’s freedom of choice. As we will see in this paper, HR practices built with this setting can lead to remarkable results at minimum or even no costs. This dissertation aims to answer to the following questions: When can we talk of nudge practices? What are the roots of these practices? What are the characteristics that define them? To identify the characteristics that a nudge practice should possess in order to be considered as such, I will first trace the literature behind these kinds of practices. Once this work is done, I extract the relevant variables. To give some empirical evidence to my argument, I picked up a practice that I consider to be a nudge practice and I examine whether this practice possesses all the identified characteristics.Há uma nova vertente da literatura que discute sobre a possibilidade de construir algumas práticas de RH, usando ideias da ciência do comportamento.

    Get PDF

Adolescents (Ad) constitute a difficult to manage population among individuals suffering from asthma. The aim of our study was to assess the prevalence, clinical characteristics and age of onset of allergic sensitization and clinical symptoms in a sample of atopic Ad living in the Campania region (Southern Italy). Sixteen Allergy units or Centers belonging to the Italian Association of Hospital and Territorial Allergologists (AAIITO, Campania region) participated in this cross-sectional study. A case report form (CRF) was specifically designed for this study and commercial allergen extracts used for screening SPTs were provided by ALK-Abelló Group (Milan, Italy). A total of 443 patients were examined (females, f 220, 49.6 %; males, m 223, 50.3%). Dust mites represent the most common sensitizing agents in allergic Ad living in Campania region (Dermatoph. pteronyssinus 67.4% and Dermatoph. farinae 66.5%), followed by Parietaria (58.9%), grasses (45.8%), Artemisia vulgaris (16.7%), Olea Europaea (32.2%), dog dander (17.1%), cat dander (20.0%), Alternaria alternata (8.1%), Cupressus sempervirens (4.9%), Betula pendula (4.7%), other allergens (19.4%). An interesting comparison has been made between clinical data of our Ad with data of elderly patients (E). The role of allergic sensitization is significantly higher in Ad compared to E. Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus is the first sensitizing allergen in Ad and the last in E. Parietaria constitutes the first sensitizing pollen both in Ad and E, the percentage of sensitization is higher in Ad. Another important difference is the higher prevalence of As, as only symptom, in E compared to Ad (19.7% versus 7.6%). In conclusion, our findings confirm the high prevalence and clinical significance of airway allergic sensitization in the adolescents living in Campania region
