A new buffering theory of social support and psychological stress

    Get PDF
A dynamical model linking stress, social support, and health has been recently proposed and numerically analyzed from a classical point of view of integer-order calculus. Although interesting observations have been obtained in this way, the present work conducts a fractional-order analysis of that model. Under a periodic forcing of an environmental stress variable, the perceived stress has been analyzed through bifurcation diagrams and two well-known metrics of entropy and complexity, such as spectral entropy and C0 complexity. The results obtained by numerical simulations have shown novel insights into how stress evolves with frequency and amplitude of the perturbation, as well as with initial conditions for the system variables. More precisely, it has been observed that stress can alternate between chaos, periodic oscillations, and stable behaviors as the fractional order varies. Moreover, the perturbation frequency has revealed a narrow interval for the chaotic oscillations, while its amplitude may present different values indicating a low sensitivity regarding chaos generation. Also, the perceived stress has been noted to be highly sensitive to initial conditions for the symptoms of stress-related ill-health and for the social support received from family and friends. This work opens new directions of research whereby fractional calculus might offer more insight into psychology, life sciences, mental disorders, and stress-free well-being

Las revistas Health economics, Value in Health, Journal of Health Economics y European Journal of Health Economics son los principales productoras. Health economics research area was a high evolution from the 1960s and it is constantly growing. The journals Health economics, Value in Health, Journal of Health Economics, and European Journal of Health Economics are the main producers. USA, England and Germany are those with highest production; Netherlands, England and Australia are those with the highest relative priority index. Quality adjusted life years and Health inequality are the themes with the highest number of documents and impact measures. This study is a useful evidence-based framework on which to base future research actions

A Verilog-A Based Fractional Frequency Synthesizer Model for Fast and Accurate Noise Assessment

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new strategy to simulate fractional frequency synthesizer behavioral models with better performance and reduced simulation time. The models are described in Verilog-A with accurate phase noise predictions and they are based on a time jitter to power spectral density transformation of the principal noise sources in a synthesizer. The results of a fractional frequency synthesizer simulation is compared with state of the art Verilog-A descriptions showing a reduction of nearly 20 times. In addition, experimental results of a fractional frequency synthesizer are compared to the simulation results to validate the proposed model

Fractional-order projection of a chaotic system with hidden attractors and its passivity-based synchronization

    Get PDF
This paper presents the fractional-order projection of a chaotic system, which delivers a collection of self-excited and hidden chaotic attractors as a function of a single system parameter. Based on an integer-order chaotic system and the proposed transformation, the fractional-order chaotic system obtains when the divergence of integer and fractional vector fields flows in the same direction. Phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, and Lyapunov exponents validate the chaos generation. Apart from these results, two passivity-based fractional control laws are designed effectively for the integer and fractional-order chaotic systems. In both cases, the synchronization schemes depend on suitable storage functions given by the fractional Lyapunov theory. Several numerical experiments confirm the proposed approach and agree well with the mathematical deductions

A power-line communication system governed by loop resonance for photovoltaic plant monitoring

    Get PDF
Within this paper, a PLC system that takes advantage of the loop resonance of an entire DC-PV string configured as a circular signal path is developed and implemented. Low cost and extremely simple transceivers intended to be installed within each PV module of a string have been designed and successfully tested. In addition, an anti-saturation coil has been conceived to avoid saturation of the core when the entire DC current of the string flows through it. Bi-directional half-duplex communication was successfully executed with up to a 1 MHz carrier frequency (150 kbps bitrate), using a simple ASK modulation scheme. The transmission and reception performance are presented, along with the overall system cost in comparison to the previous literature. The Universidad dee Valladolid with the predoctoral contracts of 2020 co-funded by Santander Bank.https://www.mdpi.com/journal/sensorsam2023Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineerin
