    The manufacturing industry is evolving rapidly, becoming more complex, more interconnected, and more geographically distributed. Competitive pressure and diversity of consumer demand are driving manufacturing companies to rely more and more on improved knowledge management practices. As a result, multiple software systems are being created to support the integration of data across the product life cycle. Unfortunately, these systems manifest a low degree of interoperability, and this creates problems, for instance when different enterprises or different branches of an enterprise interact. Common ontologies (consensus-based controlled vocabularies) have proved themselves in various domains as a valuable tool for solving such problems. In this paper, we present a consensus-based Additive Manufacturing Ontology (AMO) and illustrate its application in promoting re-usability in the field of dentistry product manufacturing

    Influence of Psychosocial Factors on Student's Academic Performance in One of Nigerian Colleges of Education

    This paper examined the influence of psychosocial factors on student’s academic performance. Self- administered questionnaire was applied as the method of data collection and a sample of 339 students’ from five faculties/schools in Potiskum College were chosen based on stratified and simple random sampling techniques to complete the survey. After analyzing the data collected, Person’s correlation coefficient reflected that, there was a positive and significant correlation between the all four variables: students’ attitudes towards lecturers, academic self-efficacy, students’-lecturers’ interaction and academic performance. Moreover, multiple regression analysis by using stepwise method was conducted to estimate the prediction power of the independent variables on the dependent variable. The finding indicated that only attitude and interaction could significantly predict students’ academic performance by R2=65.6%. Meaning academic self-efficacy failed to predict academic performance in present study. To conclude in this study, attitude and interaction are important factors in influencing students’ academic performance positively in Potiskum College of education, Nigeria

    An Ontological Approach to Representing the Product Life Cycle

    The ability to access and share data is key to optimizing and streamlining any industrial production process. Unfortunately, the manufacturing industry is stymied by a lack of interoperability among the systems by which data are produced and managed, and this is true both within and across organizations. In this paper, we describe our work to address this problem through the creation of a suite of modular ontologies representing the product life cycle and its successive phases, from design to end of life. We call this suite the Product Life Cycle (PLC) Ontologies. The suite extends proximately from The Common Core Ontologies (CCO) used widely in defense and intelligence circles, and ultimately from the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO), which serves as top level ontology for the CCO and for some 300 further ontologies. The PLC Ontologies were developed together, but they have been factored to cover particular domains such as design, manufacturing processes, and tools. We argue that these ontologies, when used together with standard public domain alignment and browsing tools created within the context of the Semantic Web, may offer a low-cost approach to solving increasingly costly problems of data management in the manufacturing industry

    Curing of mice skin infections using ethanol flower extract of chamomile

    This experiment was conducted in order to estimate azulene and apigenin in chamomile flowers. Ethanol extracts were examined singly or in combination with some drugs in their biological activity against some pathogens causing skin infection. Ethanol extract was applied at a concentration of 40 mg/ml for the treatment of induced skin infection of mice. Among the topicals used, Claforan was found the most effective on microorganisms causing skin diseases; ethanol extract was more effective than the drug Candimazole solution 1%. HPLC was used for the determination of azulene and apigenin active compounds of chamomile plant

    Production of Slime Layer by Staphylococcus epidermidisIsolated From Corneal Infection

    A total of 37 Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates, isolated from corneal scraping of patients with bacterial keratitis and 20 isolates from healthy eyes (as control) (all isolates, isolated from, Ibn Al- Haietham eye hospital / Baghdad), were tested for slime production, 52.63% of all isolates were positive-slime production (23 isolates from patients and 7 isolates from controls). It was found that positive-slime producing S. epidermidis were exhibited a high resistance to antibiotics as compared to negative-slime producing isolates

    Prevalence of needle stick injury and its associated factors among nursing staff working at a tertiary care hospital of North India

    Background: Needle stick injury is a serious concern for healthcare workers as it poses a major risk for HIV, Hepatitis and other diseases transmission. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of NSI and its associated factors among nursing staff working at SKIMS, a tertiary care hospital of Kashmir, India. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 nurses working in different departments of SKIMS. Data regarding socio-demographic, various organizational and behavioral factors that may contribute to NSI, was collected using self-structured questionnaire and analysed using IBM statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), version 23. Results: The overall prevalence of NSI among nurses of SKIMS was 61% and it was 43.5% in the last 1 year. The nurses working for >40 hrs per week were found more at risk of NSI and it was more prevalent in young nurses with ≤5 years of experience. The nurses working in emergency unit were found more prone to NSI than the other units and recapping was found as the most common practice responsible for NSI. Post exposure to NSI, only 21.5% were found to wash the injury site with soap, water and applied antiseptics and most of them (75%) had not reported NSI to the concerned body. Conclusions: The magnitude of needlestick injury among nurses was high. Awareness generation regarding occupational health hazards of NSI, protective measures, the importance of reporting of incident and sharp management is the need of hour

    Solving Robin problems in bounded doubly connected regions via an integral equation with the eneralized Neumann Kernel

    This paper presents a boundary integral equation method for finding the solution of Robin problems in bounded multiply connected regions. The Robin problems are formulated as a Riemann-Hilbert problems which lead to systems of integral equations and the related differential equations are also constructed that give rise to unique solutions are shown. Numerical results on several test regions are presented to illustrate that the approximate solution when using this method for the Robin problems when the boundaries are sufficiently smooth are accurate
