Interplay of Strain Relaxation and Chemically Induced Diffusion Barriers: Nanostructure Formation in 2D Alloys

We study the formation of nanostructures with alternating stripes composed of bulk-immiscible adsorbates during submonolayer heteroepitaxy. We evaluate the influence of two mechanisms considered in the literature: (i) strain relaxation by alternating arrangement of the adsorbate species, and (ii) kinetic segregation due to chemically induced diffusion barriers. A model ternary system of two adsorbates with opposite misfit relative to the substrate, and symmetric binding is investigated by off-lattice as well as lattice kinetic Monte Carlo simulations. We find that neither of the mechanisms (i) or (ii) alone can account for known experimental observations. Rather, a combination of both is needed. We present an off-lattice model which allows for a qualitative reproduction of stripe patterns as well as island ramification in agreement with recent experimental observations for CoAg/Ru(0001) [R. Q. Hwang, Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 4757 (1996)]. The quantitative dependencies of stripe width and degree of island ramification on the misfit and interaction strength between the two adsorbate types are presented. Attempts to capture essential features in a simplified lattice gas model show that a detailed incorporation of non-local effects is required.Comment: 24 pages, 12 figure

Wedge-Local Quantum Fields on a Nonconstant Noncommutative Spacetime

Within the framework of warped convolutions we deform the massless free scalar field. The deformation is performed by using the generators of the special conformal transformations. The investigation shows that the deformed field turns out to be wedge-local. Furthermore, it is shown that the spacetime induced by the deformation with the special conformal operators is nonconstant noncommutative. The noncommutativity is obtained by calculating the deformed commutator of the coordinates

Obtaining Reference's Topic Congruity in Indonesian Publications using Machine Learning Approach

There are some criteria on how an article is categorized as a good article for publications. It could depend on some aspect like formatting and clarity, but mainly it depends on how the content of the article is constructed. The consistency of the topic that the article was written could show us how the authors construct the main idea in the article content. One indication that shows this consistency is congruity in the article’s topic and the topic of literature or reference cited in the document listed in the bibliography. This works attempting to automate the topic detection on the article’s references then obtain the congruity to the article title’s topic through metadata extraction and text classification. This is done by extracting metadata of an article file to obtain all possible reference title using GROBID than classify the topic using a supervised classification model. We found that some refinements in the whole approach should be considered in the next step of this work

Implementation of learning that tends to be monotonous without regard to student active participation is one of the causes of low students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to describe the application of Inquiry-based Student Worksheets (LKS) in improving the critical thinking skills of fifth grade students at SD 1 Kandangmas. This research method is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the research design of the Kemmis and Mc Taggart models which are carried out in two cycles. The subjects in this study were teachers and fifth grade students at SD 1 Kandangmas. Data collection techniques were carried out by tests, interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis in this study consisted of quantitative data analysis and qualitative data analysis. The results showed that the first cycle obtained an average score of 74.2 with a classical completeness percentage of 62% which is classified as high criteria. Then in cycle II it experienced an increase reaching an average value of 81.3 with a completeness percentage of 85% which was classified as a very high criterion. Thus, the application of Inquiry-based Student Worksheets (LKS) can improve the critical thinking skills of fifth grade students at SD 1 Kandangmas
