South Africa has suffered from gentrification since the Apartheid rule [1948-1994). The result of the Apartheid rule has left the South African landscape fragmented. Areas were classified as White Only , Coloured Only and Black Only . Twenty years later one can still see the scars of forcing people to live in certain districts. As time passes from the Apartheid rule South Africans are beginning to move out of their colored classified districts and begin to move into new areas. The Apartheid rule not only divided the country by race but left many Africans of color in extreme poverty unfortunately the connection between race and economic standing are still very much connected in South Africa. Landscape Architects world wide continue to struggle with both the positive and negative effects of gentrification, but little has been done in South Africa within the fields of education or policy to address the negative issues. One of the greatest challenges facing post-Apartheid is the lack of social cohesion. Urban planners argue that the architecture of the Apartheid city was shaped entirely by the race-based allocations of social, spatial, and economic privileges [Parnell, 1977). In post-Apartheid South Africa, inequalities continue to manifest creating racially segregated landscapes. Since the early 1990\u27s, people have been moving out from the city into nearby suburbs of Cape Town such as Woodstock. Garside [2003) and Van der Merwe [2000) established that gentrification in Woodstock which began in the 1980s when the National Commission of Enquire first allowed white communities to decide where racial desegregation could take place. At this time, higher-middle class families began to settle into Lower Woodstock. Due to the Apartheid, Lower Woodstock was a Black area of low economic standing. This shift from low economic statues to higher changed Woodstock\u27s landscape demographics and caused my families who had been there since the beginning of the Apartheid to be forced to move. Similar to Syracuse and other rust belt cities of the United States; Cape Town has experienced a flight to the suburbs. Since the 1970s, South African inner cities and their surrounding areas have experienced decay, disinvestment and white flight to suburbs [Kotze & Visser, 2008). With close proximity to Cape Town\u27s City Bowl District and charming historical architecture, Woodstock began to become a high value real-estate opportunity

VIRTUAL CONSERVATION-RESTORATION VS. ACTUAL CONSERVATION-RESTORATION IN THE CONSERVATION OF FRAGMENTARY ARTEFACTS: THE CASE STUDY FRESCOES FROM SYBARIS - COPIA (ITALY)

This article discusses the role that new digital technologies play on conservation-restoration of fragmentary artefacts. Above all, the use of these tools is essential in case the artefacts have lost the formal unity and reach us without documentation concerning their original position, as in the case of the Roman frescoes from Sybaris, object of this study. The creation of virtual models proves as fundamental for the material and formal recomposition of the artefacts, especially in the creation of a new support and display choices. This last aspect required an analysis on the effects that virtual reconstructions and augmented reality have on visitors. This article discusses the role that new digital technologies play on conservation-restoration of fragmentary artefacts. A NEW MODIFIED GENERALIZED ODD LOG-LOGISTIC DISTRIBUTION WITH THREE PARAMETERS

    Get PDF
Statistical distributions are very useful in describing and predicting real-world phenomena. Numerous extended distributions have been extensively used over the last decades for modeling data in many applied sciences such as medicine, engineering and finance. Recent developments focus on defining new families that extend well-known distributions and at the same time provide great flexibility in modeling data in practice. In this paper, we have introduced a new three-parameter exponential distribution called the generalized odd log-logistic-exponential distribution by using the generator defined by Cordeiro et al (2017). This model extends the odd log-logistic-exponential and exponential distributions. Several of its structural properties are discussed in detail. These include shape of the probability density function, hazard rate function, quantile function order statistics, and moments. The method of maximum likelihood is adopted to estimate the model parameters. The applicability of the new models is illustrated by using real data. The goodness-of-fits of the exponential, beta exponential, Kumaraswamy exponential and the generalized odd log-logistic-exponential distributions have been compared through the AIC, AICC, BIC and KS statistics and found that the generalized odd log-logistic-exponential distribution fits well the data. Key Word: Exponential distribution, odd log logic distribution, maximum likelihood estimation, Monte Carlo

Engaged humanities : new perspectives of experience-oriented humanities

The term engagement was used in critical cultural studies as a term that name an attitude of scholars, and a feature of cultural and scientific texts, that are based on the experience of an individual or a group of people. In the recent two decades, many of Polish academic narrations on the field of cultural production focused on the issue of engagement. In the article, a phenomenon of engagement in the context of disability studies is considered. The main objective of the article is the analysis of disability studies as a new model of experience-oriented discipline. What is particularly interesting is a possibility to relabel experiences of the disabled as a significant report on the status of modern narrations, which should include different minority bodies. The main aim of disability studies is to present a project of engaged attitudes towards social sustainability that is not based on exclusions of any social groups of people. Studies on disability are also introduced as an experience-oriented discipline in the field of engaged humanities. This article aims at presenting critical narrations on the issue of engagement in other to connect disability studies to the engaged humanities. Promoting engagement in many areas of culture and social life seems to be a way of introducing more open politics towards difference, and social sphere of life that is equally accessible for everyone

R, MATLAB AND SPSS FOR FACTOR ANALYSIS PURPOSES: SOME PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS AND AN APPLICATION

    Get PDF
Factor analysis and principal component analysis are two techniques which carry out in a set composed of p-variables as well as large number of data (in multivariable statistical analysis). Both techniques aim to reduce the number of primary variables by calculating a smaller number of them, called factors or principal components(Hair, et al., 2010).In most cases these techniques are applied together, even though they are two different methods. Both aproaches have similarities and differences. A view either oriented on similarities or the differences is reflected in software implementations. In this paper we express some practical considerations on three softwares: SPSS, MatLab and R, related to factor analysis. A real data set is used for this purpose. SPSS does not offer the PCA program as a separate menu item, as MatLab and R. The PCA program is integrated into the factor analysis program. Principal component and maximun likelihood are used to estimate weights, Varimax and Promax are used to estimate weight with rotation while regression technique is used to estimate scores. These are the only estimating procedure available in the base package of R. Finally, we will discuss their solutionswith the mentioned software package

Groups Analysis Of Spiders Species By Preferences For Tirana Habitat Area

    Get PDF
In this paper, we presented the cluster analysis of ground-dwelling spiders. The scientific material was collected from different areas of the Tirana district, using traps Pitt. Preferences per habitat have shown that areas of the Veterinary Research Institute and the mount of Dajti have a larger number of species that are abundant in various habitats. Also, depending on the areas, it can be classified into three major groups: The Vora hills, Tirana city, and the Dajti Mountain. The analysis is based on a sample which consists of 123 ground-dwelling spiders scattered mostly in seven areas. The results of the analysis have shown the spider distribution in at least one of the areas included in the study. In addition, it also shows the dominant species for each area. All analysis is performed using SPSS statistics 20

Some Indicators For Testing The Accuracy Of A Prediction Model And Codes In Matlab

    Get PDF
The accurate software cost estimation of the software project is an important issuein the software engineering community. To date there are build different algorithmic models of effort (especially when there are some independent variables). After that, the work is focused upon selection of the most efficient prediction model. Thegoodness of the model is expressed on high percentage of spreading of dependent variables and lessening the number of independent variables. The accuracy of the model measure via F statistics, T statistics, or another indicator which are functionof the model's relative errors. Usually, the efficient model used in practice is whichever give the less mean error without testing if this model is in fact statistically significant. This can lead to unstable (erroneous) results (conclusions). There are statistics used in practice which are conditioned from the data's probability distribution; when this is unknown, the test of hypothesis yields problems. In this paper, the application of non parametric criterion, like Wilcoxoncriterion, seem to be more reasonable. In this work is used this technique in order totest the significance between two prediction models: linear regression and log-linearregression. A program is written, tested and executed in MATLAB 6.5 the calculations, implementation and testing of those algorithms are performed withmathematics package MATLAB 6.5

The aim of this study is to classify the risk factors of being with a type of cancer by applying the AHP (analytic hierarchy process) scale. The Saaty’s analytic hierarchy process is applied for computing weights for the factors, is a modeling for classification. A case study of QSUT Tirana hospital data base is presented to rank four cancer types. By the data collect from the hospital during the years 2011-2015, the results show that lung cancer is mostly spread in humans, and the prostate cancer is lower spread in humans

Prorocy „śmierci książki” i prorocy nowych narodzin.

SOME EFFECTS OF INFORMAL ECONOMY FOR ALBANIAN EMPLOYEES

While Albania transited from a centralized economy into a market economy several concerns which influenced life and behavior of Albanian employees appeared on the scene. One of the most prominent concerns is the appearance of informality in labor market. In Albania, informality is calculated Informality in Albania is calculated to be larger than 50 percent of its official Gross Domestic Product. This paper sheds light on some effects of informal economy in the labor market, mainly on Albanian employees, following a survey conducted in Tirana. It will also offer an approximate calculation of informality, as well as some ideas on raising awareness on effects caused by this phenomenon
