Assessment of cartel criminalisation in Russia
As anti-competitive agreements amongst rivals harm both the national economies and the global market, there is a lively international debate on how to design a cartel offence because civil fines are insufficient to deter cartels. A criminal offence was adopted in Russia over twenty-five years ago, as part of its market liberalisation, having made Russia one of the earliest adopters. However, the offence remains unenforceable.
This thesis takes as its starting point the examination of Russia’s cartel criminalisation. This research investigates how Russia’s cartel offence is different from offences in other jurisdictions, how the motivation behind the introduction of the cartel offence in Russia affected cartel enforcement, what atypical characteristics of Russia’s anti-cartel regime are, and identifies how it can be made more effective. This is an original contribution because none of these areas have been studied in the context of internationally recognised objectives and challenges of cartel criminalisation in the existing literature.
The thesis begins by introducing the peculiarities of Russia’s cartel offence; then it goes on to identify what the motivation behind the introduction of criminal sanctions was and continues with examining the unusual effects-based nature of the cartel prohibition. Following a detailed examination of Russia’s criminal offence, how the civil prohibition operates alongside the criminal regime and the multiple leniency programmes available, the thesis narrows its focus to bid-rigging and asks whether it should be treated differently. As the identified issues are very wide in scope, a stand-alone chapter then justifies and formulates suggestions for policy reforms.
The thesis identifies the principal shortcomings of Russia’s criminalisation and the factors that caused them; also, it substantiates the focus on the enforcement of the offence against bid-rigging to address the identified issues. It concludes with a set of recommendations of how Russia’s anti-cartel regime can be improved. This thesis is doctrinal in nature. In addition to applying primary and secondary sources, it uses unique interviews and case studies, and interdisciplinary methods from economics, socio-legal and political studies
Virtual Reality experience for home automation system
[EN] This thesis is about developing a VR experience for a technological company in Valencia. The idea of this project is to have an experience and a better understanding of home automation system before buying it. The result is two different VR platforms: mobile application for Samsung Gear VR and computer version for Oculus Rift.[ES] La tesis está basada en el desarrollo de una experiencia de realidad virtual para una empresa de domótica en Valencia. Approach of the NGC 1977 star cluster to the TOI-2796 host star
We study of possible encounters in past epochs of the open star cluster NGC
1977 with host stars. For this purpose, the age of the cluster was determined
based on our catalog data. Stars with planetary systems were selected from the
NASA Archive. The age of the cluster was determined using the color - absolute
magnitude diagram and the isochron system. By extending the track of the
movement of the cluster and stars in past epochs, 10 Myr. The time of the
maximum approach 32 pc of the host star with planetary system TOI-2796 with the
NGC 1977 are found. The place of approach in the sky is shown, this point can
be considered as the place of appearance of interstellar comets. Thus, the
result of our work is that the we found approach of the host star to the
cluster entailed effects associated with the gravitational influence of the
cluster on the nuclei of comets located in the outer parts of the Oort cloud of
the planetary system. The effect of approach on comets is estimated
Exploring the connection between parsec-scale jet activity and broadband outbursts in 3C 279
We use a combination of high-resolution very long baseline interferometry
(VLBI) radio and multi-wavelength flux density and polarization observations to
constrain the physics of the dissipation mechanism powering the broadband
flares in 3C 279 during an episode of extreme flaring activity in 2013-2014.
Six bright flares superimposed on a long-term outburst are detected at
-ray energies. Four of the flares have optical and radio counterparts.
The two modes of flaring activity (faster flares sitting on top of a long term
outburst) present at radio, optical, -ray frequencies are missing in
X-rays. X-ray counterparts are only observed for two flares. The first three
flares are accompanied by ejection of a new VLBI component (NC2) suggesting the
43 GHz VLBI core as the site of energy dissipation. Another new component, NC3,
is ejected after the last three flares, which suggests that the emission is
produced upstream from the core (closer to the black hole). The study therefore
indicates multiple sites of energy dissipation in the source. An
anti-correlation is detected between the optical percentage polarization (PP)
and optical/-ray flux variations, while the PP has a positive
correlation with optical/-rays spectral indices. Given that the mean
polarization is inversely proportional to the number of cells in the emission
region, the PP vs. optical/-ray anti-correlation could be due to more
active cells during the outburst than at other times. In addition to the
turbulent component, our analysis suggests the presence of a combined turbulent
and ordered magnetic field, with the ordered component transverse to the jet
axis.Comment: ApJ (in press), 14 pages, 19 figure
Применение методологии уровней готовности для бережливой разработки цифровых двойников сложных инженерных систем
Due to the complexity of full-scale object modeling and the need to use advanced computing technologies, the digital twin development process may require significant time, financial and human resources. Therefore, it is important for lean management of digital twin development to classify them by functionality, determine the current technology readiness level (TRL), and monitor its dynamics over short periods of time. A description of the life cycle stages of digital twins virtual models and adapted conditions to achieve technology readiness level are proposed. The use of the formalized TRL metric for detailed project planning by specific results reduces the development time, costs, and improves the quality of the results.
3D modelling and Virtual Reality as a Tool for Presenting Architecture to a Customer
Nowadays, modern technologies are becoming more and more developed and they are used in different fields. Virtual reality is a new technological boom. Subsequently, it is possible to combine virtual reality and the design field.
This thesis is a research about virtual reality, 3D modelling and how it can be used in the architectural sphere. Tyris Software, a company in Valencia, Spain, commissioned the project. The main goal was to invent and develop a platform for architects and customers where virtual reality would be used as a helping tool in the construction of new houses.
The idea of this project appeared due to people’s poor visual thinking and difficulty in imagining a house from plans or 3D renders. Thereby, the research is based on a real project with a client and an architect. The platform was developed and tested with the help of the team from Tyris Software and quantitative research
