Large-scale analysis of Zipf's law in English texts
Despite being a paradigm of quantitative linguistics, Zipf's law for words
suffers from three main problems: its formulation is ambiguous, its validity
has not been tested rigorously from a statistical point of view, and it has not
been confronted to a representatively large number of texts. So, we can
summarize the current support of Zipf's law in texts as anecdotic.
We try to solve these issues by studying three different versions of Zipf's
law and fitting them to all available English texts in the Project Gutenberg
database (consisting of more than 30000 texts). To do so we use state-of-the
art tools in fitting and goodness-of-fit tests, carefully tailored to the
peculiarities of text statistics. Remarkably, one of the three versions of
Zipf's law, consisting of a pure power-law form in the complementary cumulative
distribution function of word frequencies, is able to fit more than 40% of the
texts in the database (at the 0.05 significance level), for the whole domain of
frequencies (from 1 to the maximum value) and with only one free parameter (the
exponent)
(gastronomía), Vida (patrimonio medioambiental) y Emociones (turismo activo).
pueden ayudar a la desestacionalización y al desarrollo sostenible de la zonaAs the traditional model of tourism begins to become saturated, Public Administrations and the tourist
industry are looking for alternatives that provide a response to an increasingly demanding and
segmented, demand that seeks experiences and involvements in tourism destinations and a total
experience that includes culture, leisure and social interaction.
Resources on which rests the tourism are suffering a major transformation to the new trends of the
tourism market in search of new experiences in tourism destinations. In this context, the culinary
tourism acquires great relevance and offering experiential destinations are positioned as tourism
products within the tourist and promotional approach to the different destinations.
In recent years the cuisine has become an indispensable to know the culture and the way of life of a
territory to respond to classical values that are associated with the new trends in tourism: respect for
culture and tradition healthy lifestyle, authenticity, sustainability and experience.
This paper analyzes how, from the Grupo Desarrollo Cádiz-Estrecho, is designing and planning a
marketing project for an experiential tourism product: La Ruta Milenaria del Atún.
The project takes a step further in the creation of sea/fishing related tourist project in the coast of Cádiz,
while proposing alternative tourism options that contribute to the deseasonalization in accordance with
sustainable tourism precepts.
The ultimate goal of this work is to analyze the early stages of developing a new product around "local"
as Spanish deseasonalisation of a coastal zone strategy, replicable to other many areas on the Spanish
coast with a high seasonality.
The Ruta Milenaria del Atún it is based on four products: Roots (cultural/heritage), Flavors
(gastronomy), Life (environmental heritage) and Emotions (active tourism). As tourism fishing activity,
the project involves the creation of a new tourism product alternative that responds to the growing
demand for environmental values and cultural traditions of the coastal areas. To this end, it boasts a
network of companies that offer very varied activities within a new concept of multi-sectoral, sustainable
and differentiated from the traditional tourism of the region tourism.
The theoretical framework of work reviews trends in the tourism sector toward experiential tourism and
the methodology used in the study is basically qualitative, since it has resorted to secondary sources,
primarily on qualitative information that shed the Cadiz Tourism Web and the Ruta Milenaria del Atún.
Subsequently, resorted to primary sources of information, since held interviews with the leaders of the
Group of fisheries development Cadiz - El Estrecho, responsible for the project, and with associations
and entrepreneurs of Ruta Milenaria del Atún
The study reveals how the analyzed area has an excessive dependence on tourism of Sun and beach
in the summer months and how the design of the product Ruta Milenaria del Atún and its
commercialization helps the out of season demand and the sustainable development of the are

Testing caffeic acid as a natural antioxidant in functional fish-fibre restructured products
7 páginas, 4 figuras, 5 tablasThe antioxidant effectiveness of caffeic acid addition to minced fish muscle with or without wheat
dietary fibre added was studied. Wheat dietary fibre showed a significant prooxidant effect on minced
fish muscle during chilled storage that was significantly inhibited in presence of 100 mg/kg caffeic acid.
In samples containing caffeic acid and wheat dietary fibre, lipid oxidation was completely inhibited after
10 days. Results obtained from the instrumental texture profile analysis showed that the inclusion of
wheat dietary fibre with or without caffeic acid lowered the texture profile analysis parameters. Caffeic
acid did not render any changes on the water binding capacity. These results prove that caffeic acid can
be successfully used as a natural antioxidant in wheat dietary fibre minced fish restructured products. This work was performed within the Integrated Research

Collaborative tools: computer science students' skills versus software industry needs
Software companies encourage and further the use of collaborative tools and skills at the workplace in pursuit of the benefits of their use: they improve communication, productivity and efficiency, and competitiveness. Besides, undergraduate and graduate software engineering computing curricula recommend subjects related to effective cooperative working and group learning. In order to align industry needs and curricula recommendations, universities should provide students with the collaborative knowledge and skills that they will require on the labour market once they finish their degrees. In this scenario, we asked three questions: Are collaborative tools beneficial to software projects? Is it easier for students with knowledge and skills of collaborative tools to find a job? Do enterprises use collaborative tools as a marketing strategy for the recruitment process or are they really empowering their employees to use collaborative tools? This paper explores these questions. We devised a survey addressing the above questions, which was administered to 86 recent computer science graduates. We applied statistical techniques to analyse the responses. From the data gathered during the survey, we conclude that the expected benefits of the use of collaborative tools are in fact corroborated, students skilled in the use of collaborative tools do find it easier to get jobs and companies are not only looking for people with collaborative skills but also use collaborative tools in their routine work processes

Socio-emotional wealth and corporate responses to environmental hostility:Are family firms more stakeholder oriented?
Do family firms care more for different stakeholders than nonfamily firms when operating in a hostile business environment? This study addresses this question and fills the existing void in family business research. It shows that family-controlled firms adopt corporate social responsibility strategies and balance the demands of internal and external interest groups to preserve their socio-emotional wealth while facing fierce competition, resource scarcity, and penurious economic conditions. More specifically, our analysis of an international sample of 956 listed firms from 2006 to 2014 reveals that family firms show a higher level of corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance and better stakeholder orientation than nonfamily firms. Our findings are useful for managers, policymakers, and responsible investors
Balancing software engineering education and industrial needs
In the world of information and communications technologies the demand for professionals with software engineering skills grows at an exponential rate. On this ground, we have conducted a study to help both academia and the software industry form a picture of the relationship between the competences of recent graduates of undergraduate and graduate software engineering programmes and the tasks that these professionals are to perform as part of their jobs in industry. Thanks to this study, academia will be able to observe which skills demanded by industry the software engineering curricula do or do not cater for, and industry will be able to ascertain which tasks a recent software engineering programme graduate is well qualified to perform. The study focuses on the software engineering knowledge guidelines provided in SE2004 and GSwE2009, and the job profiles identified by Career Space
