    The ages of the tufa terraces of the Dúrcal River, in the vicinity of Cónchar, were obtained through the amino acid racemization method, which define the begining of the fluvial incision and the successive periods of carbonate accumulation and destruction/incision. These processes are related with the evolution of the nearby Padul peat bog, in which the deactivation of the alluvial fans that fed this mire was produced at 400 ka coinciding with the uppermost tufa level formation at Cónchar and, therefore, with the dynamics of the Dúrcal river, which are probably linked to neotectonics

    Síntesis y aplicación de nuevas nanopartículas de plata biocompatibles para el control del crecimiento de bacterias lácticas y acéticas en vinos

    Este libro recoge el amplio y significativo elenco de estudios (microbiología) recientemente realizados por los grupos de investigación de la red GIENOL (Grupos de investigación enológica).-- et al.Es bien conocido que la plata tiene propiedades antimicrobianas muy potentes. Actualmente, la nanoplata es el nanomaterial más utilizado, representando aproximadamente la cuarta parte de todos los nanomateriales comercializados en el mercado. El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo explorar la potencial utilización de nuevas nanopartículas de plata como agentes antimicrobianos en enología, como una alternativa al empleo de los sulfitos. En primer lugar, se ha llevado a cabo la síntesis y caracterización de dos materiales de plata: PEG‐Ag NPs 1, nanopartículas sólidas soportadas sobre polietilenglicol, y GSH‐Ag NPs 2, nanopartículas en solución soportadas sobre glutatión. A continuación, se ha evaluado su actividad antimicrobiana frente a un total de 11 especies, que incluyen bacterias lácticas y bacterias acéticas. Se han establecido los parámetros de inhibición bacteriana, comprobándose que los nanomateriales con recubrimientos a base de ambos polímeros solubles (polietilenglicol y glutatión), son capaces de inhibir el crecimiento de ambos tipos de bacterias, y en concreto, el efecto inhibidor sobre las bacterias acéticas, fue superior al del metabisulfito potásico.     The Dissimilar Impact in Atrial Substrate Modification of Left and Right Pulmonary Veins Isolation after Catheter Ablation of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

    [EN] Since the discovery of pulmonary veins (PVs) as foci of atrial fibrillation (AF), the commonest cardiac arrhythmia, investigation revolves around PVs catheter ablation (CA) results. Notwith-standing, CA process itself is rather neglected. We aim to decompose crucial CA steps: coronary sinus (CS) catheterization and the impact of left and right PVs isolation (LPVI, RPVI), separately. We recruited 40 paroxysmal AF patients undergoing first-time CA and obtained five-minute lead II and bipolar CS recordings during sinus rhythm (SR) before CA (B), after LPVI (L) and after RPVI (R). Among others, duration, amplitude and atrial-rate variability (ARV) were calculated for P-waves and CS local activation waves (LAWs). LAWs features were compared among CS channels for reliability analysis. P-waves and LAWs features were compared after each ablation step (B, L, R). CS channels: amplitude and area were different between distal/medial (p = 93%) than distal (+73.12%, p <= 0.0480, R: <-33.94%, p <= 0.0642). Medial/mid-proximal channels are recommended during SR. CS LAWs are not significantly affected by CA but they describe more precisely CA-induced ARV modifications.     Un Modelo de medida de la Inteligencia Emocional percibida en contextos deportivo/competitivos

    El objetivo del presente trabajo ha consistido en obtener evidencias de validez de constructo y fiabilidad de un cuestionario de Inteligencia Emocional en el Deporte en una muestra de 656 deportistas nacionales (360 hombres y 296 mujeres). Se dividió la muestra en dos partes y se llevó a cabo un Análisis Factorial Exploratorio para construir un modelo teórico inicial y posteriormente se llevó a cabo un Análisis Factorial Confirmatorio. Se llegó a un modelo de 31 ítems y 5 factores de primer orden. Los resultados para los indicadores más habituales de ajuste global fueron: RMSR =.08, GFI = .93; AGFI = .92 y PNFI = .81. Mientras que los valores de consistencia interna alfa de Cronbach oscilaron desde .86 hasta .64.The aim of this study was to obtain evidence of the construct validity and reliability of an 'Emotional Intelligence in Sports' questionnaire, using a sample of 656 national athletes (360 male and 296 female). The sample was divided into two parts and an exploratory factor analysis was conducted to construct an initial theoretical model. This was followed by a confirmatory factor analysis. A model with 31 items and 5 first-order factors was obtained. The values that were obtained for the most common global goodness-of-fit indices were as follows: RMSR = .08, GFI = .93; AGFI = .92 and PNFI = .81, while the internal consistency values of Cronbach's alpha ranged from .86 to .64

    The Relevance of Heart Rate Fluctuation When Evaluating Atrial Substrate Electrical Features in Catheter Ablation of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

    [EN] Coronary sinus (CS) catheterization is critical during catheter ablation (CA) of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the association of CS electrical activity with atrial substrate modification has been barely investigated and mostly limited to analyses during AF. In sinus rhythm (SR), atrial substrate modification is principally assessed at a global level through P-wave analysis. Cross-correlating CS electrograms (EGMs) and P-waves' features could potentiate the understanding of AF mechanisms. Five-minute surface lead II and bipolar CS recordings before, during, and after CA were acquired from 40 paroxysmal AF patients. Features related to duration, amplitude, and heart-rate variability of atrial activations were evaluated. Heart-rate adjustment (HRA) was applied. Correlations between each P-wave and CS local activation wave (LAW) feature were computed with cross-quadratic sample entropy (CQSE), Pearson correlation (PC), and linear regression (LR) with 10-fold cross-validation. The effect of CA between different ablation steps was compared with PC. Linear correlations: poor to mediocre before HRA for analysis at each P-wave/LAW (PC: max. +18.36%, p = 0.0017, LR: max. +5.33%, p = 0.0002) and comparison between two ablation steps (max. +54.07%, p = 0.0205). HRA significantly enhanced these relationships, especially in duration (P-wave/LAW: +43.82% to +69.91%, p < 0.0001 for PC and +18.97% to +47.25%, p < 0.0001 for LR, CA effect: +53.90% to +85.72%, p < 0.0210). CQSE reported negligent correlations (0.6-1.2). Direct analysis of CS features is unreliable to evaluate atrial substrate modification due to CA. HRA substantially solves this problem, potentiating correlation with P-wave features.     Cardiac resynchronization therapy and valvular cardiomyopathy after corrective surgery

    Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has been shown to have clinical benefits in certain groups of patients with advanced heart failure (HF). However, patients with valvular cardiomyopathy are underrepresented in randomized clinical studies. The aim of this study was to assess the medium-term (i.e., at 6 months) effects of CRT in patients with HF exclusively due to valvular disease. The study included 40 consecutive patients who underwent CRT device implantation. At 6 months, there were improvements in functional class, left ventricular remodeling, and intraventricular dyssynchrony parameters in treated patients. In this particular subgroup of patients, the benefits of CRT were similar to those observed in patients with HF due to other etiologies

    Volatile and phenolic composition of a Chardonnay wine treated with antimicrobial plant extracts before malolactic fermentation

    This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.Previous studies have proven the potential of antimicrobial plant extracts to delay malolactic fermentation (MLF) in red wines. With the final end of extending their applicability in oenology, the aim of this study was to investigate whether the addition of antimicrobial extracts (from eucalyptus leaves and almond skins) to white wines (i.e., Chardonnay wine), as a way to control MLF, would affect wine organoleptic properties, in particular those related to their volatile and phenolic composition. Although addition of both extracts led to statistically significant changes (p<0.05) in the concentration of several volatile and phenolic compounds, only few of them showed contents higher than their sensory thresholds, meaning that the changes observed in their concentration could slightly affect the final wine aroma and astringency.     Factors Associated with the Prescribing of High-Intensity Statins

    In this study, we investigated the relationship between sociodemographic, clinical, anthropometric, and lifestyle characteristics and the type of statin prescribed for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We conducted an observational study in workers who began statin treatment. Statin therapy was categorized as "high-intensity" or "low-moderate-intensity". Workers were classified according to the alignment of their statin therapy with the recommended management practices. Logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between the different variables studied and the probability of being prescribed high-intensity statins. The only variables associated with a higher probability of being treated with high-intensity statins were increased physical activity (>40 versus = 155 mg/dL versus <155 mg/dL; OR, 4.96; 95%CI, 1.29-19.10). The model that best predicted treatment intensity included LDL-C, diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and age (area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (AUC), 0.620; 95%CI, 0.574-0.666). The prescribing and type of statin used in primary CVD prevention did not correspond with the indications in current guidelines. The probability of receiving high-intensity statins was higher in diabetics with high LDL-C levels and in more physically active individuals. These findings underscore the great variability and uncertainty in the prescribing of statins
