Teoría de las restricciones: una herramienta efectiva para la gerencia de riesgos empresariales

La gerencia de riesgos es una herramienta fundamental para la gestión de las organizaciones modernas, ya que constituye una capacidad distintiva en un entorno competitivo dinámico, el aprovechamiento apropiado de esta capacidad puede transformarse en una ventaja competitiva sostenible, con el fin de lograrla se propone emplear la teoría de las restricciones para materializar dicha ventaja. Para ello se presenta de una manera simple la aplicación de los cinco pasos de la teoría de las restricciones o TOC (Theory of Constrains) que son: Identificar la restricción del sistema, decidir como explotar la restricción, subordinar todo lo demás a la decisión, elevar la restricción del sistema y si en el paso previo la restricción fue eliminada, volver al paso uno. Con estos se logra tomar los riesgos más relevantes de la organización y gestionarlos de una manera eficiente y efectiva, con el objetivo de reducir la incertidumbre en la toma de decisiones y de esta manera contribuir al mejoramiento integral de la gestión organizaciona

Factors that Impact EFL Acquisition in Cape Verde

The purpose of this study was to explore the factors that impact English as a foreign language acquisition in Cape Verde. While in Cape Verde students are taught English as a foreign language (EFL from now on) for many years, upon graduation many of them are unable to have basic conversations in English. As a result, many students in Cape Verde lose the opportunity to get a better job inside and outside Cape Verde or potential scholarships to study in an English-speaking country. This study intended to explore the students’ and teachers’ attitudes towards EFL in Cape Verde. The main topics examined in this study include the education system, the teachers’ level of preparedness and commitment, as well as the social and emotional factors that affect EFL acquisition in Cape Verde.  The instruments used in this mixed method research are interviews and questionnaires.  The findings of this study will benefit the education system in Cape Verde through a better understanding of EFL acquisition. The findings of this study may also be significant to teachers and TESOL educators in the US since a significant number of Cape Verdeans study in the US.  It has been found that there is a need to improve the pedagogical practices of EFL teachers in Cape Verde as well as restructure the education system to best fit the needs of the students. The findings also indicated that the education system, the students themselves and their colleagues, as well as the teachers can affect motivation level in both positive and negative ways.  It has also been found that language anxiety negatively impacts students’ EFL acquisition

Identification and GPC control of an AC motor using Dspace

In the paper presented below, the focus is directed to the automation and control of an AC motor, as well as obtaining its mathematical model (in the form of transfer function) using DSPACE platform, which facilitates the realization of real time testing that is necessary to identify the process here presented. Once the model is obtained, we proceed to develop the design of a controller based on the Generalized Predictive Control (GPC) methodology. Finally, the controller designed was applied to the system coupled to a simulated load by an electromagnetic break. As it is known, the usage of these motors is widespread in the industry, this work is aimed to controlling the speed, its response to changes in set point and its response to the presence of disturbances. // En el artículo que se presenta a continuación, el enfoque va dirigido a la automatización y control de un motor AC, así como a la obtención de su modelo matemático (en la forma de función de transferencia) utilizando la plataforma DSPACE, que facilita el desarrollo de pruebas en tiempo real que son necesarias para hacer la identificación del proceso aquí presentado. Una vez que el modelo es obtenido, se procede a desarrollar en diseño de un controlador basado en la metodología del Control Predictivo Generalizado (CPG). Finalmente, el controlador diseñado es aplicado al sistema acoplado a una carga simulada por un freno electromagnético. Como se sabe, el uso de estos motores está muy extendido en la industria, este trabajo está dirigido al control de su velocidad, su respuesta ante cambios en el valor de referencia y su respuesta ante la presencia de disturbios

Modelación hidráulica de un canal urbano en la ciudad de Bogotá, caso de estudio: Canal Río Negro

Trabajo de InvestigaciónEn este trabajo de investigación se analizara y modelara el comportamiento hidráulico para conocer cotas máximas de desbordamiento. De acuerdo a las herramientas de trabajo se analizara si el canal de confluencia (para nuestro caso Canal Rio Negro) soporta las condiciones y si su diseño es el adecuado para trabajar excesos de escorrentía. Las inundaciones en los canales representan un grave problema en las temporadas de invierno ya que se generan pérdidas económicas en la infraestructura, problemas de comunicación y dificultades en el transporte en donde el peor de los casos ponen en riesgo la vida de la población. Esto se produce debido a los malos estudios, diseños y mala elección de la calidad de los materiales. Finalmente se recomienda que se selecciones del canal deben de tener ajustes para eventos de alta precipitación que traen como resultado problemas de desbordamiento e inundaciones de las secciones transversales del canal Río Negro, el cual se encuentra ubicado a la altura de la AV NQS con Calle 92 (nororiente de Bogotá) y AV 68 con Calle 80(noroccidente de la ciudad).INTRODUCCIÓN 1. Towards a scalability model for wireless mesh networks

Zenzeleni mesh network is a wireless ad-hoc mesh network that provides voice services using public analogue telephones to the Mankosi community in the Eastern Cape Province. We would like to improve on the network infrastructure by upgrading the mesh routers and introducing low-end smartphones onto the network; and offer both data and voice over Internet protocol services. However, before deploying resources, it is imperative to identify the maximum number of mesh nodes, clients and simultaneous voice over internet protocol calls that can be supported by the mesh network while maintaining acceptable quality of service levels. Absence of such data might lead to financial risk and time depletion when setting up an optimal network. Bolstering the claim are investigations that report drop in quality levels as network density and hop count escalate. As current investigations mostly yield capacity models to predict per-node throughput with increasing hop count, we propose experiments to devise a scalability model to quantify scalability of mesh networks in this paper.
