On the design and performance evaluation of automatic traffic report generation systems with huge data volumes

In this paper, we analyze the performance issues involved in the generation of automated traffic reports for large IT infrastructures. Such reports allow the IT manager to proactively detect possible abnormal situations and roll out the corresponding corrective actions. With the ever‐increasing bandwidth of current networks, the design of automated traffic report generation systems is very challenging. In a first step, the huge volumes of collected traffic are transformed into enriched flow records obtained from diverse collectors and dissectors. Then, such flow records, along with time series obtained from the raw traffic, are further processed to produce a usable report. As will be shown, the data volume in flow records turns out to be very large as well and requires careful selection of the key performance indicators (KPIs) to be included in the report. In this regard, we discuss the use of high‐level languages versus low‐level approaches, in terms of speed and versatility. Furthermore, our design approach is targeted for rapid development in commodity hardware, which is essential to cost‐effectively tackle demanding traffic analysis scenarios. Actually, the paper shows feasibility of delivering a large number of KPIs, as will be detailed later, for several TBytes of traffic per day using a commodity hardware architecture and high‐level languagesThis work has been partially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the European Regional Development Fund under the projects TRÁFICA (MINECO/FEDER TEC2015‐69417‐C2‐1‐R) and Procesado Inteligente de Tráfico (MINECO/FEDER TEC2015‐69417‐C2‐2‐

Management of late presentation congenital heart disease

    Get PDF
In many parts of the world, mostly low- and middle-income countries, timely diagnosis and repair of congenital heart diseases (CHDs) is not feasible for a variety of reasons. In these regions, economic growth has enabled the development of cardiac units that manage patients with CHD presenting later than would be ideal, often after the window for early stabilisation - transposition of the great arteries, coarctation of the aorta - or for lower-risk surgery in infancy - left-to-right shunts or cyanotic conditions. As a result, patients may have suffered organ dysfunction, manifest signs of pulmonary vascular disease, or the sequelae of profound cyanosis and polycythaemia. Late presentation poses unique clinical and ethical challenges in decision making regarding operability or surgical candidacy, surgical strategy, and perioperative intensive care management

    Apolipoproteína e y enfermedad cardiovascular

    Get PDF

Seasonal variations of electrical signals of Pinus halepensis Mill. in Mediterranean forests in dependence on climatic conditions

This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Plant Signaling & Behavior on 2021, available online: http://www.tandfonline.com/10.1080/15592324.2021.1948744[EN] The temporal evolution of the electrical signal generated by Pinus halepensis was measured in a sample of 15 trees. Weekly experiments were carried out during a long-term campaign lasting over a year, while trials with a high frequency of measurements were also performed during several days. In the latter case, day-night oscillations of the electrical magnitudes were observed. Additionally, punctual meteorological events such as rainfall and electrical storms affect the electrical signal as well. The measured electrical intensity grows exponentially with the voltage. In fact, no electrical intensity that exceeds the threshold of 0.01 ¿A is gathered when voltage values are lower than 0.6 V. In general, higher electrical signals were gathered during the rainy seasons with moderate temperatures; while very low signals, including few measures of zero intensity, were obtained during the most stressful periods over the year, mainly by mid-summer. There is a strong correlation between the rainfall and the electrical signal. The rain-intensity correlation, together with sustained intensity values during the reproductive period in spring, suggests that this electrical magnitude could be an indicator of the physiological state of the tree and thus used for in situ and minimally invasive forest monitoring. ABSTRACT The Sierra Fría of Aguascalientes is covered with temperate forests, sustaining oak, oak-pine, and pine-oak communities. In this sierra, pines are affected by the smaller mexican pine beetle, Dendroctonus mexicanus, in symbiosis with wood-staining Ophiostomatoid fungi that, in timber production areas, may reduce timber value from 10 to 50%. The objective of this research was to identify Ophiostomatoid fungi species that cause wood-stain in pine species in the Sierra Fría of Aguascalientes. Wood samples were taken from pine trees infested by D. mexicanus, to isolate, purify and identify fungi species. Growing characteristics of these fungi were described and morphometric studies of the reproductive structures of anamorphs and telemorphs were conducted. The fungi Ophiostoma sp., O. pulvinisporum, O. pluriannulatum, Ceratocystiopsis fasciata and Leptographium sp., were identified on Pinus teocote and P. leiophylla, being Ophiostoma sp. and Leptographium sp. the most frequent. This is the first document that reports Ophiostomatoid fungi on pine trees of the Sierra Fría of Aguascalientes

Demographic history and population structure of Anopheles pseudopunctipennis in Argentina based on the mitochondrial COI gene

Background: Anopheles pseudopunctipennis is an important malaria vector in the Neotropical region and the only species involved in Plasmodium transmission in the Andean foothills. Its wide geographical distribution in America, high preference for biting humans and capacity to rest inside dwellings after feeding, are attributes contributing to its vector status. Previous reports have tried to elucidate its taxonomic status, distinguishing populations from North, Central and South America. In the present study we used a mitochondrial marker to examine the demographic history of An. pseudopunctipennis in northwestern Argentina. Methods: Twelve localities were selected across 550 km of the distribution of this species in Argentina, including two near the Bolivian border and several in South Tucumán, for sampling. A fragment of the cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene was sequenced and haplotype relationships were analyzed by a statistical parsimony network and a Neighbor-Joining (NJ) tree. Genetic differentiation was estimated with FS T. Historical demographic processes were evaluated using diversity measures, neutrality tests and mismatch distribution. Results: Forty-one haplotypes were identified, of which haplotype A was the most common and widely distributed. Neither the network nor the NJ tree showed any geographic differentiation between northern and southern populations. Haplotype diversities, Tajima’s D T and Fu & Li’s F and D neutrality tests and mismatch distribution supported a scenario of Holocene demographic expansion. Conclusion: The demographic pattern suggests that An. pseudopunctipennis has undergone a single colonization process, and the ancestral haplotype is shared by specimens from all localities, indicating mitochondrial gene flow. Genetic differentiation was minimal, observed only between one northern and one southern locality. The estimated time of the population expansion of this species was during the Holocene. These data suggest that regional vector control measures would be equally effective in both northern and southern localities sampled, but also that insecticide resistant genes may spread rapidly within this region.Fil: Dantur Juri, Maria Julia.
