Industrial manufacturing environments are often characterized as being stochastic, dynamic and chaotic, being crucial the implementation of proper maintenance strategies to ensure the production efficiency, since the machines? breakdown leads to a degradation of the system performance, causing the loss of productivity and business opportunities. In this context, the use of emergent ICT technologies, such as Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning and augmented reality, allows to develop smart and predictive maintenance systems, contributing for the reduction of unplanned machines? downtime by predicting possible failures and recovering faster when they occur. This paper describes the deployment of a smart and predictive maintenance system in an industrial case study, that considers IoT and machine learning technologies to support the online and real-time data collection and analysis for the earlier detection of machine failures, allowing the visualization, monitoring and schedule of maintenance interventions to mitigate the occurrence of such failures. The deployed system also integrates machine learning and augmented reality technologies to support the technicians during the execution of maintenance interventions.2411-78B2-7CDB | Pedro Miguel MoreiraN/

    Get PDF
Histoplasmosis is a systemic mycosis caused by inhalation of Histoplasma capsulatum microconidia. The disease does not normally affect immunocompetent individuals after a single, transient inhalation exposure. However, longer exposure may cause chronic or disseminated acute pulmonary infection. Herein, we report the case of a 24-year-old immunocompetent patient, who presented fever, cough and dyspnea for one month. The chest radiography revealed interstitial infiltrate and diffuse micronodules. The patient reported having had close and prolonged contact with bats. Diagnosis was confirmed by positive double immunodifusion and immunoblotting assays. She was treated with ketoconazole (400 mg) and there was complete resolution of the disease

Wearable and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in sports open a new era in athlete?s training, not only for performance monitoring and evaluation but also for fitness assessment. These technologies rely on sensor systems that collect, process and transmit relevant data, such as biomark ers and/or other performance indicators that are crucial to evaluate the evolution of the athlete?s condition, and therefore potentiate their performance. This work aims to identify and summarize recent studies that have used wearables and IoT technologies and discuss its applicability for fitness assessment. A systematic review of electronic databases (WOS, CCC, DIIDW, KJD, MEDLINE, RSCI, SCIELO, IEEEXplore, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, Cochrane and Web of Science) was undertaken according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. From the 280 studies initially identified, 20 were fully examined in terms of hardware and software and their applicability for fitness assessment. Results have shown that wearable and IoT technologies have been used in sports not only for fitness assessment but also for monitoring the athlete?s internal and external workloads, employing physiological status monitoring and activity recognition and tracking techniques. However, the maturity level of such technologies is still low, particularly with the need for the acquisition of more?and more effective?biomarkers regarding the athlete?s internal workload, which limits its wider adoption by the sports community.4811-99FE-2ECD | Luis Paulo RodriguesN/

Using AR interfaces to support industrial maintenance procedures

    Get PDF
Industries are becoming more and more digitized to better implement intelligent and predictive maintenance support systems, aligned with Industry 4.0, which requires the progressive digitization of data collection and processes. Maintenance interventions, in an evolving technological context, are increasingly more complex and difficult for technicians to perform. In these environments, the use of Augmented Reality (AR) to help assist and guide in the maintenance operations, can accomplish a considerable gain in productivity. AR allows to superimpose information objects in real scenes, such as text, images, audiovisuals, and 2D/3D model animations, making available contextual information about the process, based on location and perspective. This paper describes the design and implementation of a prototype augmented reality application to support maintenance tasks inside a metal stamping production unit, that produces components for the automotive sector. It aims to train and guide personnel during the maintenance operations, and offering an extra channel to reach expert help.2411-78B2-7CDB | Pedro Miguel MoreiraN/

The knowledge of the concentration levels of heavy metals in the environment and their dissemination in soil and water are of paramount importance in environmental studies, as one of the indicators of "measuring" the balance of biodiversity and the stability of ecosystems. The objective of this study was to study the spatial distribution of two heavy metals (Copper and Cadmium) along the banks of the Meuse River, in order to measure the levels of contamination by these metals. Cd and Cu concentration data were sampled at 155 georeferenced points. These data were obtained in the program R in the package "gstat" whose database is called "Meuse". The data analysis methodology consisted in adjusting semivariograms for spatial dependence analysis, and the spherical and Gaussian models were adjusted for the copper and cadmium concentration, respectively. The degree of spatial dependence was classified as strong for the copper concentration and moderate for the cadmium concentration. The estimation of the concentration of these heavy metals in non-sampled points was done using the kriging method, producing spatial distribution maps of the copper and cadmium concentrations that presented a similar pattern. It was verified that of the two heavy metals, Copper has very high concentrations that reach 130 mg / kg of soil

Noni fruit has been used since antiquity for treatment of many diseases such as allergy, arthritis, asthma, cancer, depression, diabetes, digestion, hypertension, and insomnia and is used as food supplement. Although these properties and its intercontinental adaptability, information about nutrient exigency and crop management is still little frequent in international and national literature. In this direction an experiment was carried out, during the period of July/2009 to July/2010, in S\ue3o Luis, Maranh\ue3o state, Brazil, in order to evaluate effects of manure and potassium fertilization of the soil on mineral composition in leaves dry matter of noni plants. The treatments were arranged in randomized blocks 2 x 4 referring to absence and presence potassium fertilization (130 kg ha-1 K2O) in soil with bovine manure levels (0, 1.7, 6.6 e 11.6 kg plant-1) applied in the area of plant projection . From the results, except in calcium and magnesium, the interaction bovine manure x K2O proportioned increment on the content of other macro and micronutrients in dry matter leaf of noni plants. The establishment of levels interpreting nutrient content suitable for noni is needed to assist the discussions of future studies of fertilization and crop nutrition

The aim of this study was to evaluate the crude protein (CP) of three tropical forage legumes grown in two systems: the silvopastoral system understory (SSP) and full sun. The experiment was conducted in Curvelo, Minas Gerais at the experimental farm of UFVJM. We used a randomized block design in a factorial 2 (SSP and full sun) x 3 species (estilosantes, tropical kudzu and macrotiloma) with 4 repetitions. The crude protein content was determined in portions: Whole plant, leaves and stems of three forage legumes in the treatments. Kind of effect was observed for whole plant and stem portions (P <0.05), not being checked for this purpose the sheet portion. The higher crude protein content for whole plant and stem were found on kudzu and estilosantes species (P <0.05), which differ from the CP content presented in macrotiloma. For the PB content in the leaf it was observed effect of interaction species x cropping system, with the macrotiloma presented increase in the amount of CP (P <0.05) when grown in SSP understory. The shading in the understory of the silvopastoral system studied did not promote increase in crude protein content for any of the cultivated species
