E7(7) constraints on counterterms in N=8 supergravity

We prove by explicit computation that 6-point matrix elements of D^4R^4 and D^6R^4 in N=8 supergravity have non-vanishing single-soft scalar limits, and therefore these operators violate the continuous E7(7) symmetry. The soft limits precisely match automorphism constraints. Together with previous results for R^4, this provides a direct proof that no E7(7)-invariant candidate counterterm exists below 7-loop order. At 7-loops, we characterize the infinite tower of independent supersymmetric operators D^4R^6, R^8, phi^2 R^8,... with n>4 fields and prove that they all violate E7(7) symmetry. This means that the 4-graviton amplitude determines whether or not the theory is finite at 7-loop order. We show that the corresponding candidate counterterm D^8R^4 has a non-linear supersymmetrization such that its single- and double-soft scalar limits are compatible with E7(7) up to and including 6-points. At loop orders 7, 8, 9 we provide an exhaustive account of all independent candidate counterterms with up to 16, 14, 12 fields, respectively, together with their potential single-soft scalar limits.Comment: 9 pages, 1 table. Diplasiolejeunea involuta Winkler : una especie poco conocida

    Get PDF
Diplasiolejeunea involuta Winkler, a species formerly known only from El Salvador, was collected from shrubs in a non pure Sphagnum - Blechnum bog in Costa Rica. The plant is easily recognized by its large leaves, very convex lobes and very large lobules with obviously involute apex; the species has 3-7 oil bodies of the Jungermannia type per cell. Most characteristics of D. involuta fit with those of the subgenus Austrolejeuneopsis, the size of the underleaves are like those of the subgenus Diplasiolejeunea and the stout lobule covers up to 85% of the lobe, as in the subgenus Physolejeunea

    Intersecting Attractors

We apply the entropy formalism to the study of the near-horizon geometry of extremal black p-brane intersections in D>5 dimensional supergravities. The scalar flow towards the horizon is described in terms an effective potential given by the superposition of the kinetic energies of all the forms under which the brane is charged. At the horizon active scalars get fixed to the minima of the effective potential and the entropy function is given in terms of U-duality invariants built entirely out of the black p-brane charges. The resulting entropy function reproduces the central charges of the dual boundary CFT and gives rise to a Bekenstein-Hawking like area law. The results are illustrated in the case of black holes and black string intersections in D=6, 7, 8 supergravities where the effective potentials, attractor equations, moduli spaces and entropy/central charges are worked out in full detail.Comment: 1+41 pages, 2 Table

    AdS Duals of Matrix Strings

    Get PDF
We review recent work on the holographic duals of type II and heterotic matrix string theories described by warped AdS_3 supergravities. In particular, we compute the spectra of Kaluza-Klein primaries for type I, II supergravities on warped AdS_3xS^7 and match them with the primary operators in the dual two-dimensional gauge theories. The presence of non-trivial warp factors and dilaton profiles requires a modification of the familiar dictionary between masses and ``scaling'' dimensions of fields and operators. We present these modifications for the general case of domain wall/QFT correspondences between supergravities on warped AdS_{d+1}xS^q geometries and super Yang-Mills theories with 16 supercharges.Comment: 7 pages, Proceedings of the RTN workshop ``The quantum structure of spacetime and the geometric nature of fundamental interactions'', Leuven, September 200
