Strength of ties and pioneering orientation: The moderating role of scanning capabilities

    Get PDF
The purpose of this article is to study the curvilinear effect on pioneering orientation of one of its key relational backgrounds: strength of ties. The study is based on a sample of 224 companies in the footwear industry in Spain. A hierarchical regression analysis was performed. The results show a curvilinear U-shaped relationship between the strength of ties and pioneering orientation. This curvilinear relationship is increasingly pronounced as scanning capabilities grow. Managers wishing to develop a pioneering orientation should avoid excessive levels of strength in their ties and unduly low levels. Furthermore, firms might benefit from developing scanning capability

[EN]This paper undertakes a general assessment of climatic hazards affecting the urban territory of Valladolid across the city's several ecotopes. There is evidence of an increased exposure to certain types of hazard in areas where urban growth has taken place recently, i.e. over the last two decades. Observations are ultimately synthesized in a map showing climatic hazard in the city of Valladolid.

BACKGROUNO ANO AIMS. The present research Project has been made mainly with the idea of comparing the tensile strength values and histological answers of threetypes of colon anatomises: sutured with silk and sutureless anastomoses with 2-octyl-cyanocrylate and N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate. Methods. 112 Wistar rats distributed into three groups of 35 animals and a last control group of 7 have been used for this. Group 1: silk, group 2:2-octyl-cyanocrylate, group 3: N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate,group 4: Control group_. The following surgical interventions were practiced on them:A cross section of the colon, followed by: group 1: an end-to-end discontinuous suture anastomoses with Silk; group 2: sutureless anastomoses with 2-octyl-cyanocrylate;group 3:sutureless anastomoses With N-butyl-2-cyanoar1ylate. On the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th and 50th days we proceeded to measure the anastomoses tensile strength value for each series. In the same period of time we carried out the following anatomic-pathological determinations: a) sharp inflammation; b) oedema; c) non-specif chronic inflammatory infiltrate; d) granulomatous inflammatory infiltrate to foreign e) fibrosis. Results. The results obtained indicate a greater anastomeses tensile strength for group 2 and 3. The anatomic-pathological values show a better response to anastomoses with adhesive than with conventional sutures. CONCLUSIONS. All these experimental results lead us to conclude that the cyanocrilates used to carry out sutureless anastomoses may be an n alternative to the handmade conventional anastomoses. Moreover they are easy to be implemented

ABSTRACT despite knowledge of physiology and pharmacology of pain releivers and the development of more effective techniques to control postoperative pain, many patients still experience pain. Effectiveness of small doses of preoperative betamine was assessed to prevent postoperative pain. A prospective and longitudinal study, with analytical design in the service of anesthesiology at Abel Santamaria Cuadrado Hospital from January, 2001 to May 2004 was performed. The sample comprised 100 patientsdevided into four groups of 25 patients each; group A was administered Ketamine 0.15 mg/kg five minutes before surgical incision. By the end of surgery, 1200mg of endovenous dipyrone was given. Group B was administered Ketamine, just 1200 mg Dipyrone at the end of surgery; group C was treated the same as group A, but, in addition to that, was kept on 2400 mg - 100 mg/h dipyrone infusion; group D was previously administered Ketamine and Dipyrone when necessary. It resulted in Analgesia being significantly better in group C. Diplopia was ther most frequent adverse reaction in all study groups; 72 % group A, 88 % group C, and 76 % group D. the degree of sedation was not significant. Preventive analgesia with Ketamine is a simple method contribuiting to relieve postoperative pain. Key words: ANALGESIA, PAIN, KETAMINe

Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) techniques have demonstrated potential to provide useful information in a broad set of applications in different domains, from precision agriculture to environmental science. A first step in the preparation of the algorithms to be employed outdoors starts at a laboratory level, capturing a high amount of samples to be analysed and processed in order to extract the necessary information about the spectral characteristics of the studied samples in the most precise way. In this article, a custom-made scanning system for hyperspectral image acquisition is described. Commercially available components have been carefully selected in order to be integrated into a flexible infrastructure able to obtain data from any Generic Interface for Cameras (GenICam) compliant devices using the gigabyte Ethernet interface. The entire setup has been tested using the Specim FX hyperspectral series (FX10 and FX17) and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed in order to control the individual components and visualise data. Morphological analysis, spectral response and optical aberration of these pushbroom-type hyperspectral cameras have been evaluated prior to the validation of the whole system with different plastic samples for which spectral signatures are extracted and compared with well-known spectral libraries.Laboratory Hyperspectral Image Acquisition System Setup and ValidationpublishedVersio

City-Friendly Smart Network Technologies and Infrastructures: The Spanish Experience

    Get PDF
Efficient, resilient, and sustainable electricity delivery is a key cornerstone in increasingly large and complex urban environments, where citizens expect to keep or rise their living standards. In this context, cost-effective and ubiquitous digital technologies are driving the transformation of existing electrical infrastructures into truly smart systems capable of better providing the services a low-carbon society is demanding. The goal of this paper is twofold: 1) to review the dramatically evolving landscape of power systems, from the old framework based on centralized generation and control, aimed at serving inelastic customers through alternating current (ac) transmission networks and one-way distribution feeders, to a new paradigm centered mainly around two main axes: renewable generation, both centralized and distributed, and active customers (prosumers), interacting with each other through hybrid ac/dc smart grids; 2) to illustrate, through featured success stories, how several smart grid concepts and technologies have been put into practice in Spain over the last few years to optimize the performance of urban electrical assets
