Potential of birdwatching tourism for the development of community initiatives in Cumaral Meta (Colombia)

Actualmente Colombia es reconocido como uno de los países de mayor diversidad de aves en el Mundo, lo cual representa una oportunidad para el desarrollo de actividades turísticas en torno a la observación de estas especies. El presente artículo pretende determinar el potencial aviturístico de Cumaral Meta, a partir del diagnóstico y análisis de la oferta y la demanda con posibilidades de conformación de un producto turístico de avistamiento de aves. Asimismo, se ha analizado la potencialidad que tiene el municipio para la actividad turística de avistamiento de aves teniendo en cuenta el perfil de la demanda turística. Para ello se han realizado entrevistas y encuestas a los turistas que visitan este municipio. En segundo lugar, se ha realizado un inventario de aves que ha evidenciado la gran biodiversidad que posee Cumaral en materia ornitológica. Y finalmente se han identificado aquellas acciones que se requieren para la implementación de un producto turístico acorde con la oferta y la demanda real y potencial.Currently Colombia is recognized as the country with the greatest diversity of birds in the world, which represents an opportunity for the development of tourist activities around the observation of these species. This article aims to determine the potential of avitourism of Cumaral Meta, from the determination of supply and demand to propose a tourism product of bird watching in the area. To do this, the potential of the municipality for the tourist activity of bird sighting was analyzed, considering the profile of tourism demand. This was achieved through interviews and surveys, to tourists visiting this municipality. Secondly, an inventory of birds is carried out, which shows the great biodiversity that Cumaral has in ornithological matters. Finally, the elements required for the implementation of a tourism product according to supply and demand are proposed, according to the results of this research

A Bibliometric Analysis of Sustainability Education in Tourism Universities

To access the final edited and published work see[ 10.1177/21582440231193215]There is growing interested in the analysis of academic training in the sustainable field of tourism. However, no explicit body of knowledge has focused on evaluating the performance of a scientific activity in this field. Accordingly, this study systematically reviews academic research on the sustainability of the educational background in tourism universities through a bibliometric analysis. For this purpose, bibliometric tools related to research activity impact indicators and analysis of coauthorship networks and keywords have been used. The results show that the topic analysed is recent and that the number of publications continues to grow. They also show that only some academics have addressed this topic, which implies that more research is needed. Therefore, in this framework, thematic specialization could be a strategic option. Researchers can use these results to approach future studies about suggested research avenues better

Hotel Costing vs. Accounting Costing System

Purpose: This study contrasts the costing process applied in four-star hotels in Bogota with the traditional costing systems identified and used in academic training processes.   Theoretical Framework: From the different definitions of cost, reference is always made to the necessary capital expenditures in the company, directly associated with the product or good that is produced, which must be easily identifiable and must also be recoverable at the time of sale of a product.At this point it is important to clarify that the term “cost” is understood as a measure of the consumption of resources related to the demand of the work and activities to be performed, while “expense” is a measure of consumption related to the capacity provided to perform the work, activity and/or process (Mejía & Salazar, 2015, p. 51). In a similar context, Rodriguez (2008) refers to expenditure as the cash outflow within a hotel related to sales and administration departments, and supports the relationship of the cost for manufacturing the product.   Design/Methodology/Approach: The focus of the research process was mixed, given the combination of quantitative data collected, as well as the analysis of opinions, facts and contrasts obtained in the process of collecting information that constitute qualitative notes on the latest experiences lived by the group of experts in the development of their functions within the hotels. The variables shown in Figure 3 were present in this information gathering and evaluation process.   Findings: Within the results presented, a costing system is differentiated from a costing process showing the relevant variables necessary to be called a “system”.   Research, Practical & Social Implications: The pandemic generated by Covid-19 was a limiting factor for reaching this group of hotels and caused the closure of establishments and the cessation of operations in most of the lodging companies. The research group mitigated this fact by convening a group of 17 people to a focus group, as experts, validating them through their work experience since they have held positions in hotels as accountants, cost managers and controllers.   Originality/Value: A sample of 43.3% of the four-star hotels in the city of Bogotá D.C. was used, where instruments were applied to present the results that were analyzed with context analysis matrices

El turismo rural comunitario ¿Una oportunidad en el posconflicto colombiano?

La actividad turística en Colombia es una práctica incipiente, no obstante, ha obtenido un papel muy importante en la economía del país. Incluso, en la actualidad el gobierno central está haciendo esfuerzos para posicionar al turismo como una actividad económica sólida. Este gran momento del turismo en el país, ha hecho que muchos turistas busquen experiencias que anteriormente no eran tenidas en cuenta. Es allí donde el turismo comunitario se ha impuesto como una tendencia turística que es importante analizar. Por ello, esta investigación intenta responder la relación de esta forma de turismo y el aporte que ha tenido para el desarrollo rural de la población local. Para ello, esta investigaciónrealizo un estudio de caso el Páramo de Sumapaz,ubicado en la ciudad de Bogotá D.C., en la localidad con su mismo nombre. Este lugar fue el epicentro por muchos años del conflicto interno del país.Allí se realizó un análisis con la comunidad acerca de las iniciativas turísticas y su importancia para el desarrollo económico de la comunidad.En este territorio en los últimos años se ha convertido en un atractivo turístico, dado que es un lugar de posconflicto. Incluso, algunos pobladores han visto en el turismo una alternativa de ingresos económicos adicionales. Sin embargo, se evidencia una serie de retos debido a que hay problemáticas que amenazan a la comunidad, los turistas y al medio ambiente. Sin embargo, con una buena gestión se puede lograr un turismo responsable y sostenible.The tourist activity in Colombia is an incipient practice, nevertheless, it has obtained a very important role in the economy of the country. Even today, the central government is making efforts to position tourism as a solid economic activity. This great moment of tourism in the country, has made many tourists seek experiences that were not previouslytaken into account. This is where community based tourism has become a tourist trend that is important to analyze. Therefore, this research tries to answer the relationship of this form of tourism and the contribution it has made to the rural development of the local population. To this end, this research carried out a case of study at the Paramo de Sumapaz, located in the city of Bogotá D.C., in the town with the same name. This place was the epicenter for many years of the internal conflict of the country. There, an analysis was made with the community about tourism initiatives and their importance for the economic development of the community. This territory in recent years has become a tourist attraction, given that it is a post-conflict place and some residents have found in tourism an alternative of additional economic income. However, a series of challenges is evident due to the fact that there are problems that threaten the community, tourists and the environment. Nonetheless, with a good management, responsible and sustainable tourism can be achieved

Imaginarios sociales de los turistas en las Ruinas de Armero, Tolima

Armero es un municipio ubicado en el departamento de Tolima, enmarcado por el desastre ocurrido el 13 de noviembre de 1985. Esta investigación centra su atención en indagar por qué el turista elige visitar el municipio y su pensamiento sobre el turismo oscuro. Para ello, se establece como objetivo analizar los imaginarios sociales y la percepción del turista en un lugar enlutado por hechos que desencadenaron en la muerte de más de 25 000 personas y otros daños incalculables. La metodología es cualitativa descriptiva y la técnica es la encuesta. El muestreo simple permite establecer que son 49 participantes a quienes, luego del recorrido por las ruinas de Armero, se les consulta sobre su interés, sus sentimientos por el lugar y la empatía con los lugareños. Se concluye que el turismo oscuro en Colombia, en sitios donde ocurrieron hechos catastróficos, puede ser una ventana para incursionar en la práctica de este tipo de turismo que ya muchos países realizan

University training in tourism: an academic and labor perspective in Bogotá (Colombia)

Este artículo describe las relaciones y vínculos funcionales entre la formación profesional en hotelería y turismo en Bogotá (Colombia) y las necesidades de talento humano de las empresas del sector turístico y la inserción laboral del alumnado. La metodología de esta investigación ha sido de carácter cualitativo y los instrumentos de investigación se basaron en entrevistas estructuradas y semiestructuradas, proporcionadas por categorías de análisis previamente establecidas. Por un lado, se entrevistaron a los directores de las instituciones universitarias, para conocer el perfil profesional del egresado. Del mismo modo, se realizaron entrevistas a los directores de talento humano de los prestadores de servicios turísticos, con el fin de identificar las principales necesidades laborales de los cargos profesionales. Este trabajo de investigación se realizó en la ciudad de Bogotá D.C., durante el año 2018 y 2019 y se evidenciaron finalmente algunas discordancias entre la formación profesional académica y las necesidades de talento humano, entre las cuales se destaca la falta de práctica y el déficit en bilingüismo.This article aims to describe the relationship in training of professionals in hospitality and tourism, with the human talent needs of companies in the tourism sector in Bogotá (Colombia). To this end, a bibliographic review was made about the researches that have studied the curricular plans in this discipline and their relationship with employment. The methodology of this research is qualitative; Structured and semi-structured interviews were conducted as research instruments. These were made to the directors of the university institutions, in order to know the Just graduated professional profile. A similar work was also carried out with the directors of human talent in the tourism services providers, to identify the main needs of the professional positions. This fieldwork was carried out in the city of Bogotá D.C., where some discrepancies between the academic professional training, as well as the needs of human talent are shown; among which was found, the lack of practice and the deficit in bilingualism

LAS PRÁCTICAS SOSTENIBLES DEL AVITURISMO COMUNITARIO EN LA LOCALIDAD DE USME

El turismo comunitario se caracteriza por ser una forma de autogestión de los recursos naturales y culturales, principalmente en los territorios rurales. Es una oportunidad para que muchas comunidades gestionen sus recursos turísticos de forma autónoma. Esta forma de administración tiene en cuenta diversas formas entre las que se destaca el aviturismo comunitario. Esta forma de turismo se ha constituido una práctica frecuente debido a la gran riqueza ornitológica que posee el territorio colombiano. Para esta investigación se analiza la gestión del aviturismo desde una perspectiva comunitaria, es decir como apropiación social de los anfitriones rurales en el territorio colombiano. Este análisis describe la gestión social y ambiental de dos iniciativas turísticas comunitarias de la Localidad de Usme en Bogotá, este estudio es social y ambiental que se realizó a través de varios trabajos de campo y entrevistas estructuradas con los líderes comunitarios. Los resultados se obtienen luego de entrevistas, donde se describen las prácticas turísticas que tienen las comunidades desde un punto de vista social y ambiental. Allí, se evidencia la gestión comunitaria del turismo y como los paisajes naturales y las especies son aprovechadas de forma sostenible por las comunidades. En conclusión, el aviturismo comunitario es una herramienta que permite alcanzar los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), desde un desarrollo social y ambiental en las comunidades, aunque hay varios aspectos en los que las comunidades deben mejorar

DARK TOURISM IN COLOMBIA: MOTIVATION OF TRAVELLERS AND COMMUNITY PRACTICES

Based on the infamous case of the natural disaster of the Armero volcano eruption, this study aims to analyze the perception of the local community towards the development of dark tourism. In particular, the main central question to be addressed in this article is to examine the motivation of tourists and the perception of local residents towards the tourism activity related to this event. To this end, a qualitative methodology was adopted through observation and interview. Our results show that the main motivation of tourists visiting the Armero region is the curiosity to see other people's deaths. However, his feelings change after visiting this region, as curiosity turns to sadness at seeing the suffering of so many people. On the other hand, some locals are not pleased that their history and heritage revolve around tragedy and the dead. This study highlights the lack of awareness of this type of tourism. It is therefore necessary that governments and competent authorities implement measures to encourage the development of this type of tourism. In this way, the cultural impact of black tourism in Colombia can be improved
