Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Marketing IntelligenceSocial media and customer review websites have changed the way the tourism sector is managed. Social media has become a new source of information, due to the large amount of UGC / e-Wom generated by consumers An information that is "available" but at the same time noisy and of great volume, which makes it difficult to access and analyze. This study investigates and verifies the possibility of using data present in content reviews of a Content Web Site Review - TripAdivsor - to generate actionable information for a Destination Management Organization. With a focus on negative reviews, tourist attractions of Lisbon and using the “R code” and its packages, the study shows that with the correct technique chosen and the action of an intelligence analyst, data can be extracted and provide substrate for actions, strategy and intelligence generation – which is Social Media Intelligence. The findings prove that the flood of web 2.0 data can serve as a source of intelligence for the Destination Management Organization (DMO). By monitoring sites like TripAdvisor, a DMO can hear what tourists talk about attractions and thereby generate insights for intelligence and strategy actions. A DMO can even, analyzing this data, make your attractions more desirable, and even act in adverse situations, reducing risky situations

Empiricism and stochastics in cellular automaton modeling of urban land use dynamics

An increasing number of models for predicting land use change in regions of rapidurbanization are being proposed and built using ideas from cellular automata (CA)theory. Calibrating such models to real situations is highly problematic and to date, serious attention has not been focused on the estimation problem. In this paper, wepropose a structure for simulating urban change based on estimating land usetransitions using elementary probabilistic methods which draw their inspiration fromBayes' theory and the related ?weights of evidence? approach. These land use changeprobabilities drive a CA model ? DINAMICA ? conceived at the Center for RemoteSensing of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (CSR-UFMG). This is based on aneight cell Moore neighborhood approach implemented through empirical land useallocation algorithms. The model framework has been applied to a medium-size townin the west of São Paulo State, Bauru. We show how various socio-economic andinfrastructural factors can be combined using the weights of evidence approach whichenables us to predict the probability of changes between land use types in differentcells of the system. Different predictions for the town during the period 1979-1988were generated, and statistical validation was then conducted using a multipleresolution fitting procedure. These modeling experiments support the essential logicof adopting Bayesian empirical methods which synthesize various information aboutspatial infrastructure as the driver of urban land use change. This indicates therelevance of the approach for generating forecasts of growth for Brazilian citiesparticularly and for world-wide cities in general

Energy demand in the world increases every year and passes. This should increase the world’s population increase. This high demand causes a need to use a greater amount of fossil fuels, which can be considered a problem, since they are beyond the final problems causing problems to the environment. With such growth it becomes necessary to study and understand new technologies and new sources of energy generation. In this sense renewable energy sources has been widely studied because they can solve both problems, the energy demand and also the reduction of pollutant emissions. One of the renewable source possibilities is solar energy. The Sun is a very powerful source of energy and can supply the energy needs of our planet. Solar energy can be used in a direct conversion process, in the case of photovoltaics, or indirectly, in the case of the heliothermic energy that transfers heat to a heat transfer fluid that later exchanges heat with water that is transformed into steam in a cycle conventional Rankine. The increase in population brings another important factor to be observed, increasing the amount of solid waste generated. The large production of waste is a very important topic to consider. This concern comes from the difficulty of finding a final destination for all this waste. Currently in Brazil the main forms of final destination of these wastes are landfills, controlled landfills and open dumps or dumps, and the amount of dumps is still large. An alternative to the final disposal of waste using one of these methods is the generation of energy through municipal solid waste (MSW). Many technologies exist with this apparent function. Pyrolysis, gasification, incineration, plasma pyrolysis, thermoselect and the production of residue-derived fuel (RDF) may be mentioned. This work has as objective to study a viable solution to the problem of the Jokey Landfill Brasilia, also known as "structural dump". To do so, it is proposed to simulate a hybrid power generation plant, such a plant will operate using solar energy generation technology (Heliothermia), urban solid waste and confined gas in the layers of waste deposited in the garbage dump
