In this note we provide an explicit construction of FQ(n)FQ({\bf n}), the free QQ-distributive lattice over an nn-element chain, different from those given by Cignoli [4] and Abad--Díaz Varela [1], and prove that FQ(n)FQ({\bf n}) can be endowed with a structure of a De Morgan algebra.Fil: Monteiro, Luis. Business Intelligence systems development in hospitals using an Agile Project Management approach

"Measure to manage" is a widely used expression to demonstrate that good governance must necessarily go through obtaining good data and information. These will allow managers to know the past and the momentum of the business and also to predict, estimate and take the best-informed decisions. The greater the complexity of the business, the greater this need. Healthcare units, specifically hospitals, are organizations that, due to their function and diversity of areas, are considered one of the most complex. In this context, projects for the development of business intelligence solutions, with huge impact and scope, undergo the need for continuous improvement and incremental evolution. Agile methods, by their nature and principles, are suitable to fulfil this need. The purpose of this dissertation is to support future research towards better models with agile tools to develop business intelligence system in hospitals and, manly, to understand how can Agile methodology improve a Business Intelligence System Implementation. This will be done mainly through bibliographical research on the covered topics, namely, Hospitals, Business Intelligence, Agile and Project Management. The expect results will be some clear practical guidelines, that any IT Project Manager could use for an efficient Business Intelligence System implementation using an Agile methodology. This will be done with the presentation of two use cases, from implementations in two hospitals in Portugal, where the Agile proposed model could be used to improve the outcomes of the projects. For that a deep analysis of the various phases of Business Intelligence development was carried out on the basis of information obtained in the literature and on the basis of information obtained in the practical development of Business Intelligence implementation projects. In the end it can be seen that the application of Agile can bring enormous benefits to the development of this kind of project, as, in addition to the advantages listed and widely known about Agile, it can help intensively to bring together and involve all the stakeholders of a project in a common goal of success and effectiveness

Unionized Labor Markets and Globalized Capital Markets

This paper studies the effects of international integration of capital markets in a world where countries differ in their labor market institutions: one country has a perfectly competitive labor market while the other is unionized. We show that workers should favor autarky in the unionized country, but oppose it in the non unionized country and vice versa for owners of capital. Aggregate gains from integration, however, are negative. We also show that, under capital mobility, an increase in relative bargaining power of unions does not always improve workers’ welfare.Capital mobility, Globalization, Unions, Welfare.

We analyze the effects of international integration of product and capital markets (i.e., globalisation) in a world where countries differ in their labour market institutions: one country has a perfectly competitive labour market while the other is unionized. We show that workers should favour autarky in the unionized country, but oppose it in the non unionized country. Vice versa for owners of capital. Aggregate gains from integration, however, are negative. We also show that, under capital mobility an increase in relative bargaining power of unions does not always improve workers' welfare: there is a critical level of bargaining strength above which an increase in union power reduces workers' income in the unionized country.Capital mobility, Unions, Globalisation

Co-Authorship of scientists in the energy field: a study of the ETDE World Energy Database (ETDEWEB) using social network analysis

Dissertação apresentada como requisito parcial para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Gestão de InformaçãoThis thesis presents a study, using a social network analysis (SNA) approach, to examine the structure of co-authorship collaboration within the research community in Portugal in the energy field, for the period from 1995 to 2010. The domain of the study is Portuguese scientists, working either in Portugal or abroad; foreign scientists working in Portugal and scientists who have co-authored with either of these groups. The study uses the most common measures of macro (whole network) and micro (actorcentred) structures of this collaboration

    Social Insurance and Redistribution

This paper studies optimal linear income taxation and redistributive social insurance when the former has the traditional labor distortion and the latter generates both ex ante and ex post moral hazard. Private insurance is available and individuals differ in labor productivity and in loss probability. We show that government intervention in insurance markets is welfare-improving, and social insurance is generally desirable when there is a negative correlation between labor productivity and loss probability.Social Insurance, Moral Hazard, Redistribution

Low-load resistance training unter blood blow restriction : Untersuchung einer alternativen Trainingsmethode bei Gonarthrose

    Get PDF
Background: Patients suffering from gonarthrosis (GA) show low loading capacity due to different factors which leads to reduced muscle volume and strength. Low-load resistance training (LLRT) with blood-flow restriction (BFR) could represent an alternative to the stressing high-load resistance training (HLRT), since training intensities equal 30% or less of the one repetition maximum (1RM). Purpose: The object of this systematical review was to evaluate the effect of a LLRT with BFR on strength of the m. quadriceps femoris (MQF) and pain in patients with GA. Furthermore, the aim of this review was to deliver an evidence-based recommendation whether such a training is indicated for this population or not. Methods: Studies were sought from webofscience, PEDro, cochrane library, medline, CINAHL and PubMED. Three relevant studies were found and analysed. Results: Women suffering from GA show significant improvements in isokinetic, isotonic and isometric strength of the MQF and significant reduction of pain. Conclusion: Further research is required to strengthen the level of evidence, to work out specific criteria for the execution of a LLRT with BFR and to clarify safety issues
