Abstract The term ‘Transgender’ is used to describe people who hold a different gender identity than their birth sex. Many transgenders are prescribed hormones and Sex Reassignment Surgeries by their doctors to change their bodies as part of the process of transition. Sometimes, not everyone in the transgender community will take these steps to live to their inner identity. A transsexual is one who wishes to transition to the sex he/she identifies. Jennifer Finney Boylan is a highly praised trans woman author and professor. She is an activist, and her involvement in social activities for LGBT people, especially transgenders, are highly notable. The work Stuck in the Middle with You: A Memoir of Parenting in Three Genders is a memoir about Boylan, and her transition from a man to a woman while being married and raising a family. It explores how changes in gender roles affect one’s viewpoint of our family as parents. This paper deals with how Boylan’s memoir reflects her role as a trans parent, and it also explores her journey from being a dad to both mom and dad

Engendering Agency: The Differentiated Impact of Educational Initiatives in Zambia and India

    Get PDF
Efforts to interrupt the reproduction of unequal gender relations in schools involve alternative practices and pedagogies intended to transform students’ notions of gender and gender relations. Beyond the protective environments where such educational initiatives take shape, however, students must rely on their own sense of agency to reenact newly developed gender roles, behaviors, and understandings. This article examines how human agency is differentially experienced and acted upon by boy and girl students responding to educational nongovernmental initiatives in Zambia and India. Two case studies are reviewed, offering evidence from participants in educational programs that seek to deliberately disrupt gender inequality, revealing distinct ways in which boys and girls respond to such efforts. It is argued that structural inequalities tend to privilege boys and enable them to experience more “transformative agency” and efficacy when asserting new understandings of gender and gender relations

    The Heroine's Character in Akananuru

Sangam literature is a mirror of time that captures the civilization, culture and customs of the Tamil people. The poets of the Sangam period have divided the songs into two categories namely as akapapadals and purapapadals. These songs reflect the experiences of ancient Tamil life. In Akananuru the songs are written on the basis of verse and number. The five- landforms system has many different aspects of human life. According to the nature of each land, the way of life and thought of man are different. This article describes that the primary role of environment in human life changes

MAPPING OF SITTAMPUNDI ANORTHOSITE COMPLEX (SAC) IN SOUTHERN GRANULITE TERRAIN (SGT), INDIA WITH ASTER AND SENTINEL-2A DATA

The Sittampundi Anorthosite Complex (SAC) is a well-exposed Archean layered anorthosite-gabbro- ultramafic rock complex in southern India. SAC well preserved white- and dark-anorthosite,gabbros, and ultramafic rocks. This study aims to discriminate, characterize, and separate from adjacent and surrounding rocks the anorthosite complex in sitampundi using Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and Sentinel-2A data. Methods such as band color composites (True color composite, False color composite and Pseudo color composite), Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Minimum Noise Fraction (MNF) and Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM), are applied to discriminate the anorthosite complex in SGT (Southern Granulite Terrain). Band composites enhance the litho units using visible and shortwave infrared bands and thus, assisted in mapping for the anorthosite complex. PCA and MNF have been applied to the ASTER and Sentinel- 2A bands in order to decrease the redundant information in highly correlated bands. PCA and MNF driven band combinations facilitate the validation and help in discriminating the various lithological units exposed in the study area. SAM classifier classification technique was utilized to characterize the selected surface mineral assemblages from Sitampundi Anorthosite Complex using spectral signatures. The above- mentioned digital image processing techniques have been proven resourceful in discrimination of anorthosite complex and associated rocks. The results obtained from ASTER and Sentinel-2A data processing were validated in field, followed by accuracy assessment

Effect of Naturopathic modalities in the management of recurrent Urinary Tract Infection

Now a days recurrent UTI is on common infection among the people, more common in women, particularly in child bearing age. The current research aims at providing a cost effective, long standing treatment protocol for the management of recurrent UTI and also for minimizing the recurrence of symptoms for a longer duration.. The objective of the study is to assess the effect of naturopathic modalities in the signs, symptoms and microscopical features of recurrent urinary tract infection. The study was a before and after Quasi – experimental or Non- randomized design. Data from an individual case sheet Proforma specifying demographical data, general history, clinical history related to urinary tract infection, physical examinations, laboratory investigation, data related with treatment and its response were collected. A consultation and examination was performed to grade the signs and symptoms. Grading was done before and after treatment. Routine blood investigation including erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and data related to presence of pus cells in urine were also collected. The naturopathic modalities including hot hip bath, abdominal hot compress, juice therapy and diet control is found to be therapeutically very effective in reducing the symptoms of urinary tract infection. Juice therapy used in the study has diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties and provide good results

Self assembled nanocages from DNA-protoporphyrin hybrid molecules

    Get PDF
DNA-organic hybrid molecular building blocks are generated by covalent conjugation of the carboxyl groups of protoporphyrin IX with the amine functional groups of modified DNA oligomers. The hybrids are used to engineer DNA nanocages by self-assembly of the complementary DNA-organic molecule conjugates. The nanocages were found to be lined up in head to tail fashion under the selective ionic strength of the solution. Computational approach revealed the area and volume acquired by each DNA-organic hybrid nanocages

Utilization of Chicken Eggshell Waste: A Potential Calcium Source for Incorporation into Vegetable Soup Mix

Calcium, an important mineral in bones, is widely available in the form of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) in eggshells. However, tonnes of eggshells have been wasted every year all around the globe. The current work was aimed at valorizing the eggshell waste and incorporating it as an alternative Ca source for calcium deficient people. Soup mixes (named 1-5) were formulated by varying the ratio of starch (4-12 g) and vegetables (2-10 g) along with the constant quantity of mushroom and eggshell powder. The formulated soup mix was assessed for physiochemical properties and proximate analysis. The results showed that the soup mix 4 with 4 g vegetables, 10 g corn starch, 1 g onion, and garlic, 2 g salt and sugar, 2 g mushroom, and 1 g eggshell powder was found similar to the commercial soup mix along with 3069.095 mg/kg calcium content which meets individuals' RDA requirement. The results suggest that the formulated soup mix can act as a proper preload for all individuals and is used as a supplement for commercial calcium foods. Further research is required to increase the soup's acceptability, its bioavailability, and shelf stability
