Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus. Here we report the inclusion of two Keggin Polyoxometalates (POMs), [H3PW12O40] and [H4SiW12O40], into silica gels by integrating them during the preparation of the SiO2 matrix via "sol-gel" methods. Aerogels were produced by supercritical drying of the wet gels impregnated with the POMs, and lyogels were obtained by means of a lyophilization process. These materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermoanalytical techniques (TGA-DSC). We found that a large fraction of POMs are lost during the aging time, and solvent exchange for lyophilization. However the thermal stability of the bare matrix is modified by the inclusion of POMs. Some aggregates with a high content of POMs were found via SEM-EDX.http://ref.scielo.org/3fg9t

Sustainable and green persulfate-based chemiluminescent method for on-site estimation of chemical oxygen demand in waters

The standard method for estimating the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of water bodies uses dichromate as the main oxidant, a chemical agent whose use has been restricted in the European Union since 2017. This method is hazardous, time-consuming, and burdensome to adapt to on-site measurements. As an alternative and following the current trends of sustainable and green chemistry, a method using the less toxic reagent sodium persulfate as the oxidizing agent has been developed. In this method an excess of persulfate, activated through heating in an alkaline solution, oxidizes the chemically degradable organic fraction through a 2-step radical mechanism. The remaining persulfate is evaluated by chemiluminescence (CL) using luminol and a portable charge-coupled device (CCD) camera. The method provided quantitative recoveries and a sample throughput of >60 samples h. It was validated in river water samples by comparison of COD estimations with the standard dichromate method (R = 0.973, p < 0.05) and with a UV–Vis permanganate-based method (R = 0.9998, p < 0.05), the latter being also used for drinking waters. The proposed method is a sustainable and green alternative to the previous used methods. Overall, the method using activated persulfate is suitable for use as COD quantitation/screening tool in surface waters. Considering that its main components are portable, it can be ultimately adapted for in situ analysis at the point of need

In the title compound (C17H17N2)2[Fe2Cl6O], obtained from the solid-state reaction of FeCl2 and N,N′-dibenzylimidazolium chloride, the complex anion has approximate D 3d symmetry with crystallographically imposed inversion symmetry coincident with the bridging μ-O atom. The stereochemistry about each FeCl3O centre is distorted tetrahedral [Fe—Cl = 2.2176 (5)–2.2427 (5) Å and Fe—O = 1.7545 (2) Å]. The Cl atoms are involved in weak anion–cation C—H⋯Cl interactions, giving a network structure

Publicad

Agronomical and analytical trait data assessed in a set of quinoa genotypes growing in the UAE under different irrigation salinity conditions

The importance of quinoa has been emphasized considerably in the recent decades, as a highly nutritional crop seed that is tolerant to salinity and amenable to arid agronomical conditions. The focus of this paper is to provide raw and a supplemental data of the research article entitled "Agronomic performance of irrigated quinoa in desert areas: comparing different approaches for early assessment of salinity stress" [1], aiming to compare different approaches for early detection, at the genotypic and crop levels, of the effect of salinity caused by irrigation on the agronomic performance of this crop. A set of 20 genotypes was grown under drip irrigation in sandy soil, amended with manure, at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (UAE) for two weeks, after which half of the trial was submitted to irrigation with saline water and this was continued until crop maturity. After eight weeks of applying the two irrigation regimes, pigment contents were evaluated in fully expanded leaves. The same leaves were then harvested, dried and the stable carbon and nitrogen isotope compositions (δ13C and δ15N) and the total nitrogen and carbon contents of the dry matter analyzed, together with ion concentrations. At maturity yield components were assessed and yield harvested. Data analysis demonstrated significant differences in genotypes response under each treatment, within all assessed parameters. The significant level was provided using the Tukey-b test on independent samples. The present dataset highlights the potential use of different approaches to crop phenotyping and monitoring decision making

The first X-ray structure of an isatin (2,3-indolinedione, isaH) metal complex, bis(isatinato)memury(II) (C16H8N2O4Hg) (1), was determined. (1) was obtained from the reaction of isaH with mercury(II) acetate in methanol. Analogously, treatment of sodium saccharinate and mercury(II) acetate in methanol yielded Hg(saccharinato)2•0.5CH3OH (3). (1) crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/ a with a = 7.299(1) Å, b = 8.192(1) Å, c = 11.601(1) Å , β = 105.82(1)°, V = 667.4 Å3, Z = 2, Dcalc = 2.452 g cm−3, MoKα radiation(λ = 0.71073 Å), μ = 115.5 cm-1, F(000) = 460, 21(1) °C. The structure was refined on the basis of 2023 observed reflections to R= 0.044. The two deprotonated, non coplanar isa ligands are trans to each other in a head to tail orientation and bound to the Hg through the nitrogen in a linear N-Hg-N arrangement. The Hg atom is at the center of symmetry of the complex and displaced by 0.62 Å from the two planes of the isa ligands (τ Hg-N1-C2-O2= -16°). The Hg-N bond length is 2.015 Å. Noπ-aryl-memury(ll)-π-aryl stacking interaction was observed either in the solid state or in the solution state. The IR, electronic, and 1H and 13CNMR spectral data of (1) and (3) suggest binding of the memury to the heterocyclic nitrogen, in agreement with the crystal structure determination of (1)

Moody's Correlated Binomial Default Distributions for Inhomogeneous Portfolios

This paper generalizes Moody's correlated binomial default distribution for homogeneous (exchangeable) credit portfolio, which is introduced by Witt, to the case of inhomogeneous portfolios. As inhomogeneous portfolios, we consider two cases. In the first case, we treat a portfolio whose assets have uniform default correlation and non-uniform default probabilities. We obtain the default probability distribution and study the effect of the inhomogeneity on it. The second case corresponds to a portfolio with inhomogeneous default correlation. Assets are categorized in several different sectors and the inter-sector and intra-sector correlations are not the same. We construct the joint default probabilities and obtain the default probability distribution. We show that as the number of assets in each sector decreases, inter-sector correlation becomes more important than intra-sector correlation. We study the maximum values of the inter-sector default correlation. Our generalization method can be applied to any correlated binomial default distribution model which has explicit relations to the conditional default probabilities or conditional default correlations, e.g. Credit Risk+{}^{+}, implied default distributions. We also compare some popular CDO pricing models from the viewpoint of the range of the implied tranche correlation.Comment: 29 pages, 17 figures and 1 tabl

This article may be downloaded for personal use only. Any other use requires prior permission of the author and the American Institute of Physics.Magnetic silica-aerogel composites have been synthesized by dispersing hard magnetic Nd2Fe14B particles in a sol during a fast sol-gel process and subsequently supercritically drying the resulting gels. The composites are found to retain most of the outstanding properties of their constituents: the large coercivity and moderate remanence of the magnetic powders and the transparency and low density of silica aerogels. Moreover, aerogels synthesized in the presence of a magnetic field exhibit the alignment of the particles, forming needle-like structures along the direction of the applied magnetic field, which results in optical and magnetic anisotropies. Due to their unique combination of properties, these types of materials may be appealing for magneto-optics and magnetic actuator applications
