Improving University Argumentative Writing through Online Training
Writing an argumentation about a controversial issue from contradictory sources is a challenging task. It involves understanding, managing, and generating arguments and counterarguments from different sources to support a final position, conveyed in a formal structure. Despite its difficulty, argumentative writing is not often taught in higher education in Spain. Furthermore, online interventions regarding this type of task are scarce. For this reason, we designed and evaluated virtual training aimed at writing integrative and wellstructured arguments in a distance learning university. Sixty-eight undergraduates participated in this pre-post with a control group design. The training included explicit instruction through video lectures and practice exercises with immediate feedback using open online resources (e.g., Moodle). The results show that after the instruction the participants? written products improved both in their structure, the number of arguments for the against-position, and the degree of integration of the two perspectives. However, those products that presented medium or maximum integration were still limited. These results illustrate how online instruction of argumentative writing can be implemented in higher education with positive results. Influence of Body Mass Index on Assisted Reproductive Techniques
Objetivo: Analizar la relación entre el índice de Masa Corporal en mujeres y los resultados obtenidos en las técnicas de reproducción asistida. Método: Se llevó a cabo un diseño no experimental, transversal, descriptivo y correlacional, mediante un análisis de datos secundarios en varias clínicas de reproducción asistida en España. Se analizaron 3.273 historias clínicas de mujeres sometidas a fecundación in vitro entre 2015-2018. Se recogieron datos de filiación e inicio del tratamiento, datos antropométricos, antecedentes personales, enfermedades actuales, esterilidad primaria, esterilidad secundaria, así como los parámetros referentes a los resultados tras tratamiento de reproducción asistida. El análisis estadístico se realizó mediante el software SPSS-V19.0. Resultados: 798 mujeres (24,42%) tenían un IMC ≥25. Las mujeres con sobrepeso consiguieron un menor número de ovocitos recuperados y fecundados, así como menor número de embriones obtenidos. Las mujeres con peso normal consiguieron un menor número de óvulos maduros y las mujeres con bajo peso presentaron una menor tasa de fecundación. Conclusiones: Se ha encontrado que los resultados obtenidos en las técnicas de reproducción asistida tienen relación con el índice de Masa Corporal de las mujeresObjective. To analyze the relationship between the Body Mass Index in women and the results obtained in assisted reproductive techniques. Methods. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational design was carried out through an analysis of secondary data in several assisted reproduction clinics from Spain. 3,273 medical records of women undergoing In Vitro Fertilization between 2015 and 2018 were analyzed. Data on affiliation and treatment initiation, anthropometric data, personal history, current diseases, primary and secondary infertility, as well as the reference parameters to the results after the assisted reproduction treatment were collected. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v19.0 software. Results. A total of 798 women (24.42%) had a BMI values ≥ 25. The overweight women achieved a lower number of oocytes retrieved and fertilized, as well as fewer embryos obtained. The women with normal weight achieved a lower number of mature oocytes and those with low weight had a lower fertilization rate. Conclusions. It has been found that the results obtained in assisted reproductive techniques are related to women's Body Mass Index
Anàlisi del sistema defensiu de segona línia en voleibol de platja femení segons el nivell de joc
L’objectiu principal d’aquest estudi va ser analitzar les accions defensives de segona línia en voleibol de platja femení segons el nivell de joc exhibit per les parelles participants. Es van analitzar un total de 15 partits, dins els quals es van registrar 856 seqüències defensives completes en segona línia. Per a això, es va crear un instrument observacional (sistema de categories) a través del qual es va efectuar un registre sistemàtic de les accions defensives de segona línia. Es va fer un estudi de confiabilitat per determinar el grau de concordança inter i intraobservadors, i s’arribà a aconseguir una concordança entre els observadors > 0,80, la qual cosa avala la qualitat de dades. Després de l’encreuament de variables, els resultats obtinguts van mostrar una diferència significativa (x² de Pearson < 0,05) quant a les accions defensives a emprar per les jugadores. No obstant això, les parelles no van mostrar diferències en el patró de joc defensiu de segona línia segons el nivell de joc
Ab initio studies of propene epoxidation on oxidized silver surfaces
Producción CientíficaAb initio density functional simulations have been performed to study the adsorption of propene on partially oxidized silver surfaces and its interaction with surface oxygen. Two different adsorption conformations for propene are studied, with the molecule either intact or forming an Ag–C3H6–O oxymetallacycle (OMC) intermediate. Then, pathways for propene oxide, acrolein and propanone formation have been studied in detail, providing insight into the selectivity of the surfaces. We find that formation of acrolein must necessarily take place from OMC intermediates, requiring at least two neighbouring reactive surface oxygen anions. Solidarity Economy, Social Enterprise, and Innovation Discourses: Understanding Hybrid Forms in Postcolonial Colombia
Dominant conceptions of solidarity economy, social enterprise, and innovation (SSEI) remain poorly positioned for understanding the diverse models emerging across the global South. The purpose of this paper is to examine the power relations between the global North and South in the production and dissemination of SSEI knowledge, highlighting the importance of recognizing alternative discourses in the global South. This contextual analysis is developed through consideration of the construction of the hybrid SSEI model in Colombia, drawing upon postcolonial theory and using Nicholls’ framework on the legitimacy of SSEI discourses. This paper offers the first application of postcolonial theory to the analysis of SSEI in the global South. This research has demonstrated that the construction of the SSEI sector in Colombia is a reflection of the dynamic interplay of the hybrids, as it incorporates the hero entrepreneur and business-like discourses within the traditional community discourse, which indeed is a combination of domestic (indigenous collective practices) and colonizer influences (e.g., cooperatives, associations). This paper also identifies the current tensions that have emerged from such hybridity within the country
Gestión de la Información y uso de herramientas tecnológicas en educación superior
Este trabajo presenta los resultados de un Proyecto de Innovación Docente en la asignatura Sistemas de Información y Documentación sobre Educación, financiado por la Universidad de Oviedo. La intervención se ha orientado al desarrollo de la competencia de gestión de la información en el alumnado de primero de la licenciatura de Pedagogía, la cual es necesaria para que puedan seguir aprendiendo a lo largo de sus vidas. Para alcanzar este objetivo, nos ha parecido oportuno incorporar las herramientas tecnológicas en los procesos educativos. Los resultados obtenidos indican que el desarrollo de esta innovación docente ha tenido consecuencias positivas en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, ya que el alumnado ha cambiado algunos de sus hábitos de búsqueda y acceso a la información y de comunicación con compañeros y profesores

Se presentan los resultados de una innovación docente introducida en la titulación de Pedagogía de la
Universidad de Oviedo. La intervención se ha orientado al desarrollo de la competencia de gestión de la
información en el alumnado de primero en la asignatura Sistemas de Información y Documentación sobre
Educación. Para alcanzar este objetivo, se ha realizado y desarrollado un plan de trabajo bianual. Los
resultados de esta investigación revelan que las tecnologías contribuyeron a potenciar el aprendizaje de
