This is the study of the most important private library in the city of Granada founded in the 18th Century, and which, unfortunately for local culture, closed in 1962 when its contents were sold outside the city. Rich in incunabular manuscripts printed in the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries, the Library of Gor was one of the important focal points of humanistic research in Granada

Informational literacy and the use of technologies by Secondary Education students in Spain: A descriptive study. The development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), together with their application to research carried out on educational areas, are factors which contribute to the promotion of a new educative model constructed on literacy-based competences and skills, and which sets technologies as essential tools for a life-long learning process (Unesco, 2005). This is the framework where we can insert the research that we are currently carrying out, funded by the research Program I+D+I of the Spanish Ministry of Education, and in the frame of which we are developing a diagnostic assessment of informational literacy competence in students between 14 and 16 years (Secondary Education), based on the fact that one of the main aspects in knowledge generation and acquisition is the capacity to use information extracted from documents and electronic resources, available in informational networks in a correct way. In this paper we present the results obtained from evidences on the contrast existing between the level of use of technologies (videogames, social networks...) and the level of informational literacy shown by students. The data were gathered from a sample of more than 1000 Secondary Education students who are around 15 years old

Natural Coumarins: QSTR Approaches Regarding Their Genotoxicity

The 18th International Electronic Conference on Synthetic Organic Chemistry session Computational ChemistryCoumarins are a group of phytochemicals with multiple applications in different fields, such as food and medicine. Many of their benefits are based on the different activities that they display, within which stand antioxidant properties. However, some conflicting evidences suggest the need to clarify or estimate the safety aspects (genotoxicity) of this group of compounds. In this sense it has been shown in previous studies that some of them have presented pro-oxidant activity in vitro and clastogenic activity in silico. Therefore, in this paper chemical structures of natural coumarins that come from various natural sources were studied. This database became topological-structural information, using molecular descriptors from the TOPSMODE approach. A virtual screening was also held that used a model of structure-clastogenic activity relationship, and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) technique. The main results were interpreted in terms of safet

In silico study of new structural alerts of agents clastogenic

Natural polyphenols and their derivatives from diet have been reported by their pro-oxidant and clastogenic activities. In an aim of elucidating structural alerts for this genotoxicity endpoint, a QSTR study was conducted under the TOPS-MODE approach. It was possible to establish structural alerts from the DNA oxidative damage as an endpoint of clastogenicity at optimum leaders with high probability of being clastogenic. Some important fragments to obviate this activity were also identified. The results constitute a reference system for designing new food or pharmaceutical matrices as an alternative to the experimental toxicolog

OBJECTIVE: To assess the clinical features of Brazilian patients with SARS-CoV-2 and analyze its local epidemiological features. DESIGN AND SETTING: Observational retrospective study conducted using data from an official electronic platform for recording confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases. METHODS: We extracted data from patients based in the state of Pernambuco who were registered on the platform of the Center for Strategic Health Surveillance Information, between February 26 and May 25, 2020. Clinical signs/symptoms, case evolution over time, distribution of confirmed, recovered and fatal cases and relationship between age group and gender were assessed. RESULTS: We included 28,854 patients who were positive for SARS-CoV-2 (56.13% females), of median age 44.18 years. SARS-CoV-2 infection was most frequent among adults aged 30-39 years. Among cases that progressed to death, the most frequent age range was 70-79 years. Overall, the mortality rate in the cohort was 8.06%; recovery rate, 30.7%; and hospital admission rate (up to the end of follow-up), 17.3%. The average length of time between symptom onset and death was 10.3 days. The most commonly reported symptoms were coughing (42.39%), fever (38.03%) and dyspnea/respiratory distress with oxygen saturation < 95% (30.98%). CONCLUSION: Coughing, fever and dyspnea/respiratory distress with oxygen saturation < 95% were the commonest symptoms. The case-fatality rate was 8.06% and the hospitalization rate, 17.3%

Artificial intelligence applied to flavonoid data in food matrices

    Get PDF
Increasing interest in constituents and dietary supplements has created the need for more efficient use of this information in nutrition-related fields. The present work aims to obtain optimal models to predict the total antioxidant properties of food matrices, using available information on the amount and class of flavonoids present in vegetables. A new dataset using databases that collect the flavonoid content of selected foods has been created. Structural information was obtained using a structural-topological approach called TOPological Sub-Structural Molecular (TOPSMODE). Different artificial intelligence algorithms were applied, including Machine Learning (ML) methods. The study allowed us to demonstrate the effectiveness of the models using structural-topological characteristics of dietary flavonoids. The proposed models can be considered, without overfitting, effective in predicting new values of Oxygen Radical Absorption capacity (ORAC), except in the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) algorithm. The best optimal model was obtained by the Random Forest (RF) algorithm. The in silico methodology we developed allows us to confirm the effectiveness of the obtained models, by introducing the new structural-topological attributes, as well as selecting those that most influence the class variableThis research received no external funding and the APC was funded by the Universidad Estatal Amazónica The authors thank the Belgian Development Cooperation for funding through VLIR-UOS (Flemish Interuniversity Council - University Cooperation for Development) in the context of the TEAM VLIR CU2017TEA433A102 Project: “Installation of a center of excellence in the central region-Eastern Cuba for the development of research and the production of plant bioactives”, between the University of Antwerp and Camagüey “Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz”, and Xunta da Galicia and Galician Plan of research, innovation and growth 2011–2015 (Plan I2 C, ED481B 2014/086–0 and ED481B 2018/007S
