Diversity of zooplankton in Dekhu reservoir from Aurangabad, Maharashtra

    Get PDF
Zooplanktons by their heterotrophic activity play a key role in the cycling of organic materials in aquatic ecosystems and are used as bioindicators of environmental quality. The present study was carried out from February 2009 to January 2010 which deals with diversity and abundance of zooplankton in Dekhu reservoir from Aurangabad district. A total 25 species of zooplankton were recorded in which rotifers were more abundant with 11 species followed by copepods and cladocerans 6 species each and 2 species of Ostracods. Results indicated that Dekhu reservoir is more productive

A Report on Micro-invertebrates Associated with Littoral Macrophytes in Kagzipura Lake

The present study deals with micro-invertebrates associated with littoral macrophytes of kagzipura reservoir from January to December 2009.During the present study species of Protozoa, Rotifera, Copepoda, Cladocera and Ostracoda along with Sponges, Bryozoa. Nematodes and Insect larvae are recorded. This study will be helpful to understand the real picture of community structure of limnetic ecosystem

Antimicrobial potential of the marine intertidal sponge, Ircinia fusca from west coast of India

In vitro antimicrobial screening of marine sponge (Porifera) Ircinia fusca collected from west coast of India, against selected bacteria and fungi was conducted in this study. Crude sponge extracts of the marine organism Ircinia fusca demonstrated activity against eight microbes tested. The extracts showing good antimicrobial activity are undergoing further analysis to identify the active constituents

Record of freshwater gastrotricha from Marathwada region

ABSTRACT Gastrotricha is generally less studied phylum in India and information about its diversity and density is scanty. The present paper reports occurrence of Polymerurus nodicaudus and Chaetonotus elegans species of Gastrotricha in periphytic habitat of Kagzipura Lake, District Aurangabad, Maharashtra. This is the first report on gastrotrich from this region

INFORMATION STORAGE AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ISMS) USING HADOOP

In today’s era data management becomes difficult task for organization. In day to day life, data increase rapidly which results in loss of data and its accuracy. This kind of increasing data is called as Big Data. Big Data contains largeamount of data which need to manage efficiently and accurately. So the motivation behind this system is to manage the data efficiently and accurately and we have chosen the recent technology, called “Hadoop”

An assessment of bryozoan (Phylactolaemata) fauna of Kagzipura Lake, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India

Freshwater Bryozoa is one of the less explored or ignored animal groups from India.  Kagzipura Lake, a rainwater fed water body was surveyed for three years to understand the diversity and distribution of bryozoan fauna.  The present study depicts four Phylactolaemata bryozoans species as Rumarcanella vorstmani, Plumatella casmiana, Lophopodella carteri and Swarupella divina.  The manuscript provides brief descriptions of these species, photomicrographs of statoblasts using scanning electron microscopy and colony characteristics. </div

Growth inhibition of periphytic diatoms by methanol extracts of sponges and holothurians

57-58Crude methanol extracts of a holothurian Holothuria leucospilota, and two sponges Craniella sp. and Ircinia ramosa were tested for their inhibitory effects on the growth of two marine diatoms, Navicula subinflata and Navicula crucicula, by diatom plating method. Populations of both the diatom species expressed in terms of total chlorophyll-a values were found to be adversely affected by all the 3 test extracts. Ircinia ramosa extract amongst these exhibited maximum inhibitory effect on the growth of the diatoms

Ecology of ascidians in the macrofouling community of New Mangalore port

    No full text
41-43Ascidians constitute a major component of macrofouling community at the New Mangalore port during the premonsson season (February-May). The presence of ascidians in these waters is being reported for the first time. A scidian recruitment was not observed during monsoon season (June-September). At this locality salinity does not drop substantially during monsoon months and hence the absence of ascidians during monsoon cannot be attributed to salinity stress. The only striking change in the environmental parameters during monsoon months was the increased suspended load (turbidity) and this may be one of the controlling factors in the recruitment of ascidians in this area
