Miniaturization of Resonator based on Moore Fractal

    Get PDF
This paper presents the simulation and fabrication of miniaturized half wavelength resonator design using Moore fractal iteration technique. These resonators have been prepared for wireless application at a centre frequency of 2.45GHz using a substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2. The size and performance are compared with the conventional half wavelength open line resonator. It can be shown that the Moore fractal iteration technique able to reduce 46% of the size of conventional half wavelength resonator through first iteration, and 30% through second iteration while maintaining the resonance performance. The resonators have been fabricated using conventional printed circuit board facilities not specialized in microwave devices. However, the unloaded Q-value of the Moore structure generally much lower compared the open line type

A Cross-Cultural Study of Psychological Well-being Among British and Malaysian Fire Fighters

Psychological consideration has always been a part of society and it usually relates to values, beliefs, ethnicity and gender. This is the essence of cultural psychology. In recent times, this branch of psychology has developed the new arm of Cross-Cultural Psychology, an extension of psychology covering the influence on behaviour when cultural groups interact. This study is a comparative study of two cultural groups, namely Malaysian and British fire fighters. Sources of occupational stress and their impact on psychological wellbeing were examined in a questionnaire survey of 1053 British and Malaysian fire fighters. The role of coping strategies as moderating factors was also tested. Sources of occupational stress had significant negative correlations with psychological wellbeing. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to examine the moderating effect of coping strategies on psychological wellbeing and found differences between the British and Malaysian fire fighters. Models of psychological wellbeing for both cultures were produced

The needs for coordination in sustainable urban infrastructure development

    Get PDF
Urban infrastructure systems shape the interactions between civilized society and the natural environment. Whilst these urban systems are the most visible impact of humanity upon the environment, sustainable development of them is also crucial to minimize the impacts of human activities on the environment. Coordination among different agencies involved in the urban infrastructure development is an essential factor to achieve sustainability in the process. Co-ordination is a key enabler that brings together these agencies to make their endeavors more compatible with the interests of environmental, economic and social aspects, the triple bottom line of sustainability. From a sustainability point of view, this paper by identifying and analyzing the effects of lack of coordination, aims to delineate the role coordination in the context of sustain-able urban infrastructure development

The performance of two mothers wavelets in function approximation.

Research into Wavelet Neural Networks was conducted on numerous occasions in the past. Based on previous research, it was noted that the Wavelet Neural Network could reliably be used for function approximation. The research conducted included comparisons between the mother functions of the Wavelet Neural Network namely the Mexican Hat, Gaussian Wavelet and Morlet Functions. The performances of these functions were estimated using the Normalised Square Root Mean Squared Error (NSRMSE) performance index. However, in this paper, the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) was used as the performance index. In previous research, two of the best mother wavelets for function approximations were determined to be the Gaussian Wavelet and Morlet functions. An in-depth investigation into the two functions was conducted in order to determine which of these two functions performed better under certain conditions. Simulations involving one-dimension and two-dimension were done using both functions. In this paper, we can make a specifically interpretation that Gaussian Wavelet can be used for approximating function for the function domain [−1, 1]. While Morlet function can be used for big domain. All simulations were done using Matlab V6.5

Islamic Banking has been established since 1980s in Malaysia. It was initially commenced with the incorporation of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) in 1983. Until today, Islamic Banking has robustly developed in Malaysia providing various kinds of Islamic transaction products including Islamic Home Finance. Various Islamic Home Finance products have been introduced and practised in Malaysia. Among the products are: Bay’ Bithaman al-Ajil (BBA), Musharakah al-Mutanaqisah (MM), Commodity Murabahah and Ijarah. Nonetheless, there are many issues in these products when faced with the problems of abandoned housing projects. One of the issues is the issue of ‘gharar’ in BBA. It is evident that, the application of BBA is proven to be defective and contains many flaws, if involves abandoned housing projects in Malaysia. This paper aims to highlight and analyse this issue (gharar) and provide solutions to the issues discussed. This paper used shariah (Islamic Law) doctrinal and qualitative case study research methodologies. This paper finds that the current terms in the BBA are inadequate and warranted it to be provided with terms that can prevent the occurrences of gharar thus can fully comply with the requirements of the shariah (lslamic Law). The outcome of this paper will help the Islamic banking industry in dealing with the issues of gharar in abandoned housing projects in Malaysia and protect the rights and interests of the purchaser consumers. There are several methods in determining lineage (al-Nasab) in Islam such as al-firasy, iqrar, bayyinah, qiyafah and qur'ah.  Islamic countries like Maghribi and Indonesia has been one step forward in strengthening the country’s Judicial Institution by implementing other option besides al-firasy for the matter of lineage determination especially for the offspring who does not have right in lineage through only al-firasy or in other word, a child that born out of wedlock. Therefore, observations are done to see Islamic views that are used by judicial system in Maghribi and Indonesia in drafting the law and deciding the implementations of methods for cases involving lineage determination. This observation also includes the comparisons on how the law is implemented legislatively on the Islamic society in Maghribi and Indonesia. Literature review method is used and the analysis details is via content analysis method. This is an initiative to assist further discussion on the issue of lineage determination in Malaysia.
