    Get PDF

Global mobile communication necessitates improved capacity and proper quality assurance for services. To achieve these requirements, small cells have been deployed intensively by long term evolution (LTE) networks operators beside conventional base station structure to provide customers with better service and capacity coverage. Accomplishment of seamless handover between Macrocell layer (first tier) and Femtocell layer (second tier) is one of the key challenges to attain the QoS requirements. Handover related information gathering becomes very hard in high dense femtocell networks, effective handover decision techniques are important to minimize unnecessary handovers occurred and avoid Ping-Pong effect. In this work, we proposed and implemented an efficient handover decision procedure based on users’ profiles using Q-learning technique in an LTE-A macrocell-femtocell networks. New multi-criterion handover decision parameters are proposed in typical/dense femtocells in microcells environment to estimate the target cell for handover. The proposed handover algorithms are validated using the LTE-Sim simulator under an urban environment. The simulation results showed noteworthy reduction in the average number of handovers

Cell Selection Mechanism Based on Q-learning Environment in Femtocell LTE-A Networks

Universal mobile networks require enhanced capability and appropriate quality of service (QoS) and experience (QoE). To achieve this, Long Term Evolution (LTE) system operators have intensively deployed femtocells (HeNBs) along with macrocells (eNBs) to offer user equipment (UE) with optimal capacity coverage and best quality of service. To achieve the requirement of QoS in the handover stage among macrocells and femtocells we need a seamless cell selection mechanism. Cell selection requirements are considered a difficult task in femtocell-based networks and effective cell selection procedures are essential to reduce the ping-pong phenomenon and to minimize needless handovers. In this study, we propose a seamless cell selection scheme for macrocell-femtocell LTE systems, based on the Q-learning environment. A novel cell selection mechanism is proposed for high-density femtocell network topologies to evaluate the target base station in the handover stage. We used the LTE-Sim simulator to implement and evaluate the cell selection procedures. The simulation results were encouraging: a decrease in the control signaling rate and packet loss ratio were observed and at the same time the system throughput was increased

This study aims to identify the role of Co-curriculum Centre in implementing the co-curricular courses for the Bachelor of Education (ISMP) students of Sultan Idris Education University. The survey’s design uses questionnaires on the effectiveness of co-curricular courses of UPSI (α = .80) on 811 respondents of eighth semester students. The findings show that all sections are given good feedbacks by the students and state that they agree that the Co-curriculum Centre provides knowledge and experience which are useful to be applied during teaching practice. The highest mean score is co-curriculum content item (m = 3.68), lecturer of the co-curricular course item (m = 3.37), support officer of co-curriculum center item (m = 3.31) and teaching aids (m = 3.15). Through ANOVA, the comparison between the four items shows significant differences of p < .05. The factor of the content of co-curricular courses offered F(3,807) = 12:59, p = .000 and co-curricular course lecturer factor F(3,807) = 4:49, p = .004. While the teaching aids factor and the officers of Co-curriculum Center did not show a significant difference. The findings show that the co-curricular courses are very beneficial to the ISMP students in guiding them to implement co-curricular activities during the teaching practice in schools. Nevertheless, the Co-curriculum Centre should always be ready to provide beneficial courses, experienced lecturer, sufficient facilities and teaching aids, and dedicated officers

TOASTER MASTER ENTERPRISE is a company which focuses on manufacturing a more useful product compare to the existed product in the market. We are highly confident that our market can be easily developed and spread in Malaysia as it is a new innovation that is not yet developed in this country. To make it more attractive and interesting, we decided to make some innovation by implying our creativity and modern element in this toaster. Nowadays, time is one of the most important thing for a lot of people with hectic daily schedule. We try to minimize the use of time when people want to toast bread and at the same time want to cook omelet for an example. We have done some research that Malaysia is one of developed country and it quite busy during day time. Normally people who work during office hour and students do not have much time for breakfast. So, with our new innovation, they can toast bread and cook at the same time without use of additional equipment. It is easy and simple as that

Bambara groundnut: an exemplar underutilised legume for resilience under climate change

    Get PDF
Main conclusion Bambara groundnut has the potential to be used to contribute more the climate change ready agriculture. The requirement for nitrogen fixing, stress tolerant legumes is clear, particularly in low input agriculture. However, ensuring that existing negative traits are tackled and demand is stimulated through the development of markets and products still represents a challenge to making greater use of this legume. Abstract World agriculture is currently based on very limited numbers of crops, representing a significant risk to food supplies, particularly in the face of climate change which is expected to increase the frequency of extreme events. Minor and underutilised crops can help to develop a more resilient and nutritionally dense future agriculture. Bambara groundnut [Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.[, as a drought resistant, nitrogen-fixing, legume has a role to play. However, as with most underutilised crops, there are significant gaps in knowledge and also negative traits such as 'hard-to-cook' and 'photoperiod sensitivity to pod filling' associated with the crop which future breeding programmes and processing methods need to tackle, to allow it to make a significant contribution to the well-being of future generations. The current review assesses these factors and also considers what are the next steps towards realising the potential of this crop

Development of antibacterial, degradable and pH-responsive chitosan/guar gum/polyvinyl alcohol blended hydrogels for wound dressing

    Get PDF
The present research is based on the fabrication preparation of CS/PVA/GG blended hydrogel with nontoxic tetra orthosilicate (TEOS) for sustained paracetamol release. Different TEOS percentages were used because of their nontoxic behavior to study newly designed hydrogels’ crosslinking and physicochemical properties. These hydrogels were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spec-troscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and wetting to determine the functional, surface morphology, hydrophilic, or hydrophobic properties. The swelling analysis in different media, degradation in PBS, and drug release kinetics were conducted to observe their response against corresponding media. The FTIR analysis confirmed the components added and crosslinking between them, and surface morphology confirmed different surface and wetting behavior due to different crosslinking. In various solvents, including water, buffer, and electrolyte solutions, the swelling behaviour of hydrogel was investigated and observed that TEOS amount caused less hydrogel swelling. In acidic pH, hydrogels swell the most, while they swell the least at pH 7 or higher. These hydrogels are pH-sensitive and appropriate for controlled drug release. These hydrogels demonstrated that, as the ionic concentration was increased, swelling decreased due to decreased osmotic pressure in various electrolyte solutions. The antimicrobial analysis revealed that these hydrogels are highly antibacterial against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus) and Gram negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) bacterial strains. The drug release mechanism was 98% in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) media at pH 7.4 in 140 min. To analyze drug release behaviour, the drug release kinetics was assessed against different mathematical models (such as zero and first order, Higuchi, Baker–Lonsdale, Hixson, and Peppas). It was found that hydrogel (CPG2) follows the Peppas model with the highest value of regression (R2 = 0.98509). Hence, from the results, these hydrogels could be a potential biomaterial for wound dressing in biomedical applications
