Malaysia is one of the world's Islamic financial centres and it is working hard to enhance Shariah governance in the Islamic financial sectors. Shariah Savings introduced on 8th August 2016 is an initiative by the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) allowing investors to determine whether or not their funds should be handled and invested according to Shariah principles. Despite the effort by the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) to promote investment in the Sharia Compliant saving, the Muslim of EPF members' is still low. Hence, increasing EPF Muslim members' investment is a major challenge. Thus, this study aimed to fulfil this gap by examining the Planned Behaviour Theory with additional variables (religiosity, investment knowledge, and risk propensity) mediated by awareness towards investment decisions among EPF Muslim contributors in Malaysia. Questionnaire surveys were utilized in a quantitative research strategy to collect data. Using purposive sampling procedures, data was collected from 295 Muslim members who stick with EPF conventional savings and analyze by using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM

In Malaysia, the growing popularity and development of business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce have necessitated competition between existing B2C e-commerce. This growth has opened an opportunity for many fashion businesses to leverage this platform. To access and measure how this platform can contribute to their business success, this study has used the DeLone, and McLean IS success model 2003 in identifying the related factors. Five dimensions were examined: system quality, information quality, service quality, user satisfaction, and net benefit. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of these variables to determine the major contributing factor on the B2C e-commerce fashion websites success in the fashion industry. Primarily, this study draws a quantitative method that was conducted through a survey questionnaire with 272 respondents who have experience purchasing apparel from B2C e-commerce websites. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to analyze the collected data, and Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis were conducted to prove the hypothesis. These findings revealed that system quality, service quality, information quality, and user satisfaction significantly influence the net benefits of e-commerce fashion to achieve a successful online business. This study has provided theoretical implications to validate the DeLone & McLean Information Systems Success Model and practical implications

A proposal for a single tribunal of estates distribution in Malaysia

    Get PDF
This research paper attempts to propose the replacement of the costly and time consuming process for the distribution of estates of Muslims in Malaysia in four agencies with a cost-effective process in a single tribunal that have full information about estates and has expertise in Islamic and Civil laws. For this, the existing framework and process of estates distribution is evaluated. The overall process is lengthy, costly, and in some cases, it is ineffective. Duality of legal systems and multiplicity of administrative and judicial agencies are thought to be the causes of the problem. To remedy this problem, a single tribunal with a new process therefore is proposed

The press plays vital roles to a well informed society in a democratic country. In Malaysia, the press is restricted from freely carrying out its functions to inform the citizen by a number of laws enacted by Parliament. A number of press laws are said to have restrictive effects on the media. There are a lot of bodies and individuals that have put forward their ideas to have greater freedom of press. These include seeking for a revision on our press laws but such actions are yet to be considered by the authority. This raises a question on to whether the Malaysian press has been given sufficient freedom of press. In carrying out this research, a comparison has been made between the press in Malaysia and Australia. This research is actually an attempt to analyse the constitutional safeguard protecting freedom of press in Malaysia and Australia. Besides, this research will examine the extent of press freedom in Malaysia and Australia. This is a library-based research. Data and information were gathered from the library and internet databases. Findings show that both Malaysia and Australia have certain restrictions on press but to different extent. As compared to Malaysia, in Australia, the press has a self regulatory body which governs matters relating to press. It is hoped that this research can be useful to provide better understanding of knowledge and to provide access for the citizen in area of press freedom due to fact that there are differences of approach between Malaysia and Australia on who draws the balancing rights and restraints

Government Initiatives for Enhancing Building Information Modeling Adoption in Saudi Arabia

    Get PDF
Despite its numerous benefits, many countries are slow in adopting building information modeling (BIM). As a result, policymakers are implementing different government initiatives (GIs) for enhancing BIM adoption globally. However, it is critical to exercise caution when implementing GIs due to each country’s specific requirements and rules. Having country-specific GIs can ensure that BIM is appropriately adopted and fits a country’s needs and problems. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the GIs in enhancing BIM adoption in Saudi Arabia. Data from 101 industry professionals were analyzed using a mean ranking analysis, normalization method, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE). Five critical GIs for enhancing BIM adoption were identified: developing programs for improving BIM competencies, developing programs to increase BIM awareness and understanding, developing programs to integrate BIM into education curricula and academia, developing BIM-related contractual frameworks, and providing financial aid to reduce the cost of BIM adoption. The EFA results indicate that the GIs can be grouped into two underlying constructs: national policies and organizational strategies. The FSE results confirmed that all GIs are effective. The study findings can serve as a significant reference for industry practitioners and policymakers in assuring successful BIM adoption

Intelligent surveillance system for street surveillance

    Get PDF
CCTV surveillance systems are widely used as a street monitoring tool in public and private areas. This paper presents a novel approach of an intelligent surveillance system that consists of adaptive background modelling, optimal trade-off features tracking and detected moving objects classification. The proposed system is designed to work in real-time. Experimental results show that the proposed background modelling algorithms are able to reconstruct the background correctly and handle illumination and adverse weather that modifies the background. For the tracking algorithm, the effectiveness between colour, edge and texture features for target and candidate blobs were analysed. Finally, it is also demonstrated that the proposed object classification algorithm performs well with different classes of moving objects such as, cars, motorcycles and pedestrians

Consistency relations of an extension polycyclic free abelian lattice group by quaternion point group

    Get PDF
An extension of a free abelian lattice group by finite group is a torsion free crystallographic group. It expounds its symmetrical properties or known as homological invariants. One of the methods to compute its homological invariants is by determining the polycyclic presentation of the group. These polycyclic presentations are first shown to satisfy its consistency relations. Therefore, our focus is to show that this extension polycyclic free abelian lattice group by quaternion point group satisfy its consistency relations

A crystallographic group is a discrete subgroup of the set of isometries of Euclidean space where the quotient space is compact. A torsion free crystallographic group, or also known as a Bieberbach group has the symmetry structure that will reveal its algebraic properties. One of the algebraic properties is its nonabelian tensor square. The nonabelian tensor square is a special case of the nonabelian tensor product where the product is defined if the two groups act on each other in a compatible way and their action is taken to be conjugation. Meanwhile, Bieberbach group with quaternion point group of order eight is a polycyclic group. In this paper, by using the polycyclic method, the computation of the nonabelian tensor square of this group will be shown

Escherichia Coli (E-coli) is a bacterium commonly found in the environment, foods and intestines of people and animal. The presence of E-coli in water can severely threaten human health condition. The quality of drinking water is vital and avoid using contaminated water is a must. In fact, the water that contaminated by E-coli is cannot easily be detected by physical observation. Dedicated ways used to detect the presence of E-coli are required. The current techniques available are quite bulky in size, also require high expenses and professional training operation. With these limitation, new technique is proposed which are considerably low-cost and user friendly device in detecting presence of E-coli. The fabrication of impedance based sensor using interdigitated electrode (IDE) and Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as sensor package have been done in this study. The impedance response of the proposed sensor have been observed using impedance analyser. Based on the observation, the sensor device able to differentiate the sample's condition tested in frequency of 1000 Hz until 3000 Hz, but no significant changes observed at the higher frequency range. With the initial results obtained, the proposed device was demonstrated being able to distinguish different E-coli concentration
