Mechanical Forces in the Skin : Roles in Tissue Architecture, Stability, and Function

    Get PDF
Tissue shape emerges from the collective mechanical properties and behavior of individual cells and the ways by which they integrate into the surrounding tissue. Tissue architecture and its dynamic changes subsequently feed back to guide cell behavior. The skin is a dynamic, self-renewing barrier that is subjected to large-scale extrinsic mechanical forces throughout its lifetime. The ability to withstand this constant mechanical stress without compromising its integrity as a barrier requires compartment-specific structural specialization and the capability to sense and adapt to mechanical cues. This review discusses the unique mechanical properties of the skin and the importance of signals that arise from mechanical communication between cells and their environment.Peer reviewe

Annealing effect on temperature stability and mechanical stress at the “CdxPb1−xS film – substrate” interface

The article establishes the upper temperature steadiness limit of СdxPb1-xS supersaturated solid solutions obtained by chemical bath deposition. СdxPb1-xS (x = 0.06; 0.122; 0.176) and (x = 0.02–0.05) films remained stable under the heating up to 405–410 and 450 K, respectively. SEM studies have shown that heating of СdxPb1-xS films (x = 0.02–0.05) to 620 K leads to the structure destruction. Internal mechanical compressive stresses at the "СdxPb1-xS film-substrate" interface was calculated in the range of 300–900 K for the first time ever, the highest values reached 2000–2750 kN/m2 for a number of the films compositions. In contrast to solid solutions, the expansion stresses up to 100 kN/m2 were derived for the CdS layer at 900 K. The obtained temperature steadiness boundaries and the mechanical stresses of СdxPb1-xS films must be taken into account in the development of photonic devices based on such materials

The study of crises is one of the most important areas of economic science. Sanctions against Russia in 2022 have led to significant functional and structural shifts in the national economy. Effective anti-crisis management in crisis conditions becomes one of the main directions of its overcoming in Russian economy. The issues of improving the mechanism of crisis management at the present historical stage are actualised. The purpose is study of anti-crisis management methods for the development of an effective anti-crisis mechanism. Objectives is to study the existing methods of anti-crisis management in the light of international experience. The authors used methods of analysis, synthesis and comparison, and abstract-logical method in the research. The analytical method of information processing, synthesis and deduction of theoretical aspects of the concept of crisis and crisis management was carried out. A study of methods of crisis management, considering international experience, systematization and analysis of existing principles of state crisis management of the economy was carried out. The content and role of modern methods of crisis management deserves special attention. In the context of the sanctions announced against Russia, it is necessary to develop more advanced approaches to crisis management. The model of the anti-crisis mechanism for building an effective management system in the country’s economy is considered

Epigenetic gene regulation, chromatin structure, and force-induced chromatin remodelling in epidermal development and homeostasis

    Get PDF
The skin epidermis is a constantly renewing stratified epithelium that provides essential protective barrier functions throughout life. Epidermal stratification is governed by a step-wise differentiation program that requires precise spatiotemporal control of gene expression. How epidermal self-renewal and differentiation are regulated remains a fundamental open question. Cell-intrinsic and cell-extrinsic mechanisms that modify chromatin structure and interactions have been identified as key regulators of epidermal differentiation and stratification. Here, we will review the recent advances in our understanding of how chromatin modifiers, tissue-specific transcription factors, and force-induced nuclear remodeling processes function to shape chromatin and to control epidermal tissue development and homeostasis.Peer reviewe

Defining the Design Principles of Skin Epidermis Postnatal Growth

Summary During embryonic and postnatal development, organs and tissues grow steadily to achieve their final size at the end of puberty. However, little is known about the cellular dynamics that mediate postnatal growth. By combining in vivo clonal lineage tracing, proliferation kinetics, single-cell transcriptomics, and in vitro micro-pattern experiments, we resolved the cellular dynamics taking place during postnatal skin epidermis expansion. Our data revealed that harmonious growth is engineered by a single population of developmental progenitors presenting a fixed fate imbalance of self-renewing divisions with an ever-decreasing proliferation rate. Single-cell RNA sequencing revealed that epidermal developmental progenitors form a more uniform population compared with adult stem and progenitor cells. Finally, we found that the spatial pattern of cell division orientation is dictated locally by the underlying collagen fiber orientation. Our results uncover a simple design principle of organ growth where progenitors and differentiated cells expand in harmony with their surrounding tissues.Peer reviewe
