    Acceptance Criteria for Critical Software Based on Testability Estimates and Test Results

    Testability is defined as the probability that a program will fail a test, conditional on the program containing some fault. In this paper, we show that statements about the testability of a program can be more simply described in terms of assumptions on the probability distribution of the failure intensity of the program. We can thus state general acceptance conditions in clear mathematical terms using Bayesian inference. We develop two scenarios, one for software for which the reliability requirements are that the software must be completely fault-free, and another for requirements stated as an upper bound on the acceptable failure probability

    Chemo-enzymatic saccharification strategy of microalgae chlorella sorokiniana

    Biofuel production using microalgae attracted much attention because it can be cultured using CO2 and sunlight. With high carbohydrate content, microalgae have the potential to be used as a fermentation feedstock for bioethanol production. In present work, chemo-enzymatic saccharification of Chlorella sorokiniana microalgae were investigated. Chemical hydrolysis of the biomass followed by enzymatic hydrolysis and was also evaluated the effect of combining the two enzymes and the sequential addition. The effect of α-amylase concentrations was analyzed in ranged between 50 and 8000 U/g of biomass and for amyloglucosidase between 90 and 600 U/g of biomass. The higher concentrations showed the highest conversion of reducing sugars. The α-amylase concentration 8000 U/g of biomass presented a conversion of 43.06 ± 2.92% (w/w), while amyloglucosidase with 600 U/g of biomass obtained 76.57 ± 6.42% (w/w). The combination of two enzymes simultaneously was more efficient than the sequential addition for low enzyme concentrations (α-amylase 50 U/g and amyloglucosidase 90 U/g) with a total reducing sugar of 22.78 ± 3.06 and 16.92 ± 2.06% (w/w), respectively. On the other hand, using the higher enzymes concentrations, no difference was observed between the two addition strategies, 58.9 ± 3.55 and 57.05 ± 2.33% (w/w) for the sequential and simultaneous, respectively. Both strategies didn’t present advantage, since the amyloglucosidase enzyme alone produced slightly higher results.     Online Attacks on Picture Owner Privacy

    International audienceWe present an online attribute inference attack by leverag-ing Facebook picture metadata (i) alt-text generated by Facebook to describe picture contents, and (ii) comments containing words and emo-jis posted by other Facebook users. Specifically, we study the correlation of the picture's owner with Facebook generated alt-text and comments used by commenters when reacting to the image. We concentrate on gender attribute that is highly relevant for targeted advertising or privacy breaking. We explore how to launch an online gender inference attack on any Facebook user by handling online newly discovered vocabulary using the retrofitting process to enrich a core vocabulary built during offline training. Our experiments show that even when the user hides most public data (e.g., friend list, attribute, page, group), an attacker can detect user gender with AUC (area under the ROC curve) from 87% to 92%, depending on the picture metadata availability. Moreover, we can detect with high accuracy sequences of words leading to gender disclosure, and accordingly, enable users to derive countermeasures and configure their privacy settings safely

    We consider a coupled system of two singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion equations, with two small parameters 0<ϵ≤μ≤10< \epsilon \le \mu \le 1, each multiplying the highest derivative in the equations. The presence of these parameters causes the solution(s) to have \emph{boundary layers} which overlap and interact, based on the relative size of ϵ\epsilon and % \mu. We construct full asymptotic expansions together with error bounds that cover the complete range 0<ϵ≤μ≤10 < \epsilon \leq \mu \leq 1. For the present case of analytic input data, we derive derivative growth estimates for the terms of the asymptotic expansion that are explicit in the perturbation parameters and the expansion order

    A Golf Programme for People with Severe and Enduring Mental Health Problems

    This article reports a pioneering golf programme for people with severe and enduring mental health problems. Following a discussion of the problems and possibilities of golf as a form of physical activity for this group, we outline the structure, organisation, and ethos of the golf programme. Through an analysis of qualitative case study data collected during the programme, we discuss the response to the programme from service users and mental health professionals. We conclude by highlighting aspects of the programme which were critical to its success and offering suggestions for further initiatives in this area

    Strengthen causal models for better conservation outcomes for human well-being

Progress towards effective conservation requires understanding mechanisms for achieving impact within complex social-ecological systems. Causal models are useful tools for defining plausible pathways from conservation actions to impacts on nature and people. Evaluating the potential of different strategies for delivering co-benefits for nature and people will require the use and testing of clear causal models that explicitly define the logic and assumptions behind cause and effect relationships. Objectives and methods In this study, we outline criteria for credible causal models and systematically evaluated their use in a broad base of literature (~1,000 peer-reviewed and grey literature articles from a published systematic evidence map) on links between nature-based conservation actions and human well-being impacts. Results Out of 1,027 publications identified, only ~20% of articles used any type of causal models to guide their work, and only 14 total articles fulfilled all criteria for credibility. Articles rarely tested the validity of models with empirical data.     Evidence for Superfluidity of Ultracold Fermions in an Optical Lattice

    The study of superfluid fermion pairs in a periodic potential has important ramifications for understanding superconductivity in crystalline materials. Using cold atomic gases, various condensed matter models can be studied in a highly controllable environment. Weakly repulsive fermions in an optical lattice could undergo d-wave pairing at low temperatures, a possible mechanism for high temperature superconductivity in the cuprates. The lattice potential could also strongly increase the critical temperature for s-wave superfluidity. Recent experimental advances in the bulk include the observation of fermion pair condensates and high-temperature superfluidity. Experiments with fermions and bosonic bound pairs in optical lattices have been reported, but have not yet addressed superfluid behavior. Here we show that when a condensate of fermionic atom pairs was released from an optical lattice, distinct interference peaks appear, implying long range order, a property of a superfluid. Conceptually, this implies that strong s-wave pairing and superfluidity have now been established in a lattice potential, where the transport of atoms occurs by quantum mechanical tunneling and not by simple propagation. These observations were made for unitarity limited interactions on both sides of a Feshbach resonance. For larger lattice depths, the coherence was lost in a reversible manner, possibly due to a superfluid to insulator transition. Such strongly interacting fermions in an optical lattice can be used to study a new class of Hamiltonians with interband and atom-molecule couplings.Comment: accepted for publication in Natur

    Lack of trust in maternal support is associated with negative interpretations of ambiguous maternal behavior

    Attachment theory assumes that children who lack trust in maternal availability for support are more inclined to interpret maternal behavior in congruence with their expectation that mother will remain unavailable for support. To provide the first test of this assumption, early adolescents (9-13 years old) were asked to assess whether ambiguous interactions with mother should be interpreted in a positive or a negative way. In our sample (n = 322), results showed that early adolescents' lack of trust in their mother's availability for support was related to more negative interpretations of maternal behavior. The associations remained significant after controlling for depressive mood. The importance of these findings for our understanding of attachment theory, attachment stability, and clinical practice are discussed
