âDreamkeepersâ: School Experiences From The Voices Of Successful Adult African American Males
While there is an abundance of literature portraying the African American male in a negative light, this study focused on successful African American males and explored educational practices that contributed to their academic success. This study asked successful Black adult school leaders to reflect on their early school experiences and to discuss the impact of their school experiences on their academic success. In addition, this study explored the commitments successful adult males made to support young Black males and focused on the guidance these men provided to support school success. In this interpretive qualitative study, a phenomenological approach was employed to document, in their own voices, the early school experiences of successful African American male school administrators. Ladson-Billingsâ (2009) characteristics and critical dimensions of culturally relevant teaching were employed to guide this study. Results indicated that the Black adult male participants experienced academic success during their early school experiences and that they have success stories to voice despite the predominance of negative research in the literature. Geometric integration of classical spin dynamics via a mean-field Schr\"odinger equation
The Landau-Lifshitz equation describes the time-evolution of magnetic
dipoles, and can be derived by taking the classical limit of a quantum
mechanical spin Hamiltonian. To take this limit, one constrains the many-body
quantum state to a tensor product of coherent states, thereby neglecting
entanglement between sites. Expectation values of the quantum spin operators
produce the usual classical spin dipoles. One may also consider expectation
values of polynomials of the spin operators, leading to quadrupole and
higher-order spin moments, which satisfy a dynamical equation of motion that
generalizes the Landau-Lifshitz dynamics [Zhang and Batista, Phys. Rev. B 104,
104409 (2021)]. Here, we reformulate the dynamics of these generalized
spin components as a mean-field Schr\"odinger equation on the -dimensional
coherent state. This viewpoint suggests efficient integration methods that
respect the local symplectic structure of the classical spin dynamics
Public health training in internal medicine residency programs: a national survey
BACKGROUND:
The IOM recommends public health training for all physicians. Data characterizing such training of internal medicine (IM) residents are lacking. PURPOSE:
To describe the current state of public health education at IM residency programs, characterize programs offering public health education, and quantify interest in expanding training opportunities. METHODS:
IM residency program directors from the 380 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited residency programs in the U.S were invited to participate in a cross-sectional survey. Responses were received from 127 programs (33%). Data were collected July-December 2012 and analyzed in January 2013. Participants were queried on domestic public health training offered, perceived resident interest in and satisfaction with this training, and interest in expanding training. RESULTS:
Eighty-four respondents (66%) provide some form of public health training, but structure and content vary widely. In many programs offering public health training, few residents (\u3c10%) receive it. Although 93 programs (73%) integrate public health into core curricula, only three topics were common to a majority of these programs. Sixty-six respondents (52%) offer clinical training at community-based health centers. Most residency program directors (90%) are very or somewhat interested in expanding their public health training. CONCLUSIONS:
This study characterizes the structures and content of public health training across IM residency programs. The wide range highlights the diverse definition of public health training used by IM residency program directors and lack of universal public health competencies required for IM physicians. Opportunities exist for collaboration among residency programs and between IM and public health educators to share best practices

Small Satellite Payload Calibration
This project focused on developing an efficient and cost-effective method for calibrating optical payloads that streamlines setup, measurement, and analysis time while staying within a SmallSat budget. To develop and test the concept, the team identified key calibration parameters and performed a demonstration on a surrogate payload using spatial, spectral, and radiometric calibration methods. Calibration results were derived from the demonstration and are detailed below
A framework for power analysis using a structural equation modelling procedure
BACKGROUND: This paper demonstrates how structural equation modelling (SEM) can be used as a tool to aid in carrying out power analyses. For many complex multivariate designs that are increasingly being employed, power analyses can be difficult to carry out, because the software available lacks sufficient flexibility. Satorra and Saris developed a method for estimating the power of the likelihood ratio test for structural equation models. Whilst the Satorra and Saris approach is familiar to researchers who use the structural equation modelling approach, it is less well known amongst other researchers. The SEM approach can be equivalent to other multivariate statistical tests, and therefore the Satorra and Saris approach to power analysis can be used. METHODS: The covariance matrix, along with a vector of means, relating to the alternative hypothesis is generated. This represents the hypothesised population effects. A model (representing the null hypothesis) is then tested in a structural equation model, using the population parameters as input. An analysis based on the chi-square of this model can provide estimates of the sample size required for different levels of power to reject the null hypothesis. CONCLUSIONS: The SEM based power analysis approach may prove useful for researchers designing research in the health and medical spheres
Connecting does not necessarily mean learning: Course handbooks as mediating tools in school-university partnerships

Copyright @ 2011 American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.Partnerships between schools and universities in England use course handbooks to guide student teacher learning during long field experiences. Using data from a yearlong ethnographic study of a postgraduate certificate of education programme in one English university, the function of course handbooks in mediating learning in two high school subject departments (history and modern foreign languages) is analyzed. Informed by Cultural Historical Activity Theory, the analysis focuses on the handbooks as mediating tools in the school-based teacher education activity systems. Qualitative differences in the mediating functions of the handbooks-in-use are examined and this leads to a consideration of the potential of such tools for teacher learning in schoolâuniversity partnerships. Following Zeichnerâs call for rethinking the relationships between schools and universities, the article argues that strong structural connections between different institutional sites do not necessarily enhance student teacher learning

A Case Study Analysis of a Regional Food System: The Sustainable Agriculture Consortium for Historically Disadvantaged Farmers Program
The Sustainable Agriculture Consortium for Historically Disadvantaged Farmers Program (SACH) was designed to carry out an experiment by five 1890 Land-Grant Universities in partnership with five farmer based cooperatives in five states to assess marketing fruits and vegetables to Walmart from a regional perspective. Using the Consortium as a case study, this study assessed the Consortium within the framework of implementation evaluation; data were collected using semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The study answered questions such as, what did the Consortium do, and what were some of the accomplishments of the Consortium? The farmers were able to: negotiate price points; develop a cold chain management system; properly package and store produce; and cultivate a mutually beneficial relationship with the buyer. Benefits derived from the Consortium included: providing supplemental income for the participating farmers; expansion of the existing regional food system; and promotion of good farm management practices.
