Converged IP networks consist of diverse technologies and support both legacy and emerging services. Different vendors use separate management systems to achieve similar goals. Manual provisioning today represents a large portion of the total effort required to manage a complex IP network. A consolidated Quality-of-Service policy is difficult to implement in heterogeneous networks. Creating and maintaining such policies is very demanding in terms of operations. For this reason, reducing operational costs while improving Quality-of-Service Management is only possible through a consolidated approach to network management. To leverage operations in converged IP networks, we propose the following: A mechanism to automatically generate consistent configurations across a network with equipment from different vendors; A framework definition such that network element configurations can be specified using a common model; Applying some of the methods proposed to an application that can be used in a real network with diverse technologies and equipment vendors

Doutoramento em Arquitectura Paisagista e Ecologia Urbana - Instituto Superior de Agronomia / Faculdade de Ciências. Universidade do Porto / faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia. Universidade de CoimbraIn 2000, the European Landscape Convention has introduced and highlighted a number of key points which intended to renew the ways of approaching the landscape, also covering the subjects of public participation or the diversity of disciplinary articulations — for example, a greater concern was expressed about the places where people live, such as urban and periurban areas; the public should have an active role and responsibility as well as awareness raising, training and education through an enhanced part in participation actions; crossdisciplinary and more diversity on the approaches related to landscape matters are needed. It was from this context that this investigation was developed, proposing a different perspective of analysis between landscape architecture and art, that is: on the one hand, it was intended to address the current challenges related to the public engagement and participation taking into account the long experience of the art practices in participatory projects; on the other hand, it was intended to contribute to a better clarification on how different disciplines such as landscape architecture and art address similar themes and concerns, and how this can contribute to more efficient design practices and diversified collaborations. Thus, different approaches were analyzed and discussed, produced from temporary projects carried out by artists or by different collaborations between art, landscape architecture and other disciplines, in order to contribute not only to more efficient and inclusive design practices, but also to improve engagement processes between the public, the design team and the project. The aim is to reinforce a more active role of the public that may translate into responsibility as well as in awareness raising, training, and education, mainly referring to the specific context of the urban landscapeN/

Improved PWM A/D conversion technique: working principle and model validation

Analog-to-digital conversion plays a central role in any application of digital sensors and sensor systems that require an interface between analog devices, namely analog sensors, and digital devices, namely, microprocessors, digital signal processors or microcontrollers. With the advent of smart sensing, the integration of signal conditioning, analog-to-digital and digital data processing in single hardware devices became a reality. Moreover, the usage of low-cost discrete A/D conversion techniques for applications that are not critic in terms of accuracy, resolution or conversion rate, are considering increasingly mixed hardware and software A/D solutions tailored for specific application demands. In this context, this chapter presents a discrete low-cost A/D conversion solution based on pulse width modulation particularly suited for microcontrollers' integration with smart sensing devices.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Dissertação de mestrado em International BusinessThis internship report reflects the status and evolution of the technological driven start-up, Datris Solutions, which is a start-up focused on exploring opportunities in the open data and membership management applications sectors. Datris was created in 2015 and presently, in 2018 has yet to release a finished product that can be used to generate revenue. Continuous issues afflict the development of the start-up’s team and products which resulted in the slow progress and evolution of the two. In an attempt to pump fresh ideas and motivation into the current start-up’s team members, additional personal was hired, in this case a marketing research intern to assist the team in every marketing related effort with special focus for marketing research. This created the adequate scenery for an internship in the area of International Business since it allowed a look into the development and evolution of a young technological driven startup in a foreign country. The knowledge gained during the regular theoretical modules of the International Business masters classes provided the necessary tools to assess an international business/start-up health and the insight to provide advice on what would be the best suggestions to increase the start-up’s productivity, development and how to develop an accurate market research. With that in mind, this internship report will focus on assessing the current factors that are inhibiting the development and growth potential of technological driven start-ups. By identifying, analysing and comparing them to the literature research findings regarding failure factors that inhibit technological start-up development, we hope to contribute to the current literature. In addition, we will suggest an action plan to reduce the influence of these negative factors to ensure a better survivability rate for the start-up for the years to come.

Trabalho apresentado em 2nd International Academic Conference on Teaching, Learning and Education (TLE 2020), Novembro 2020; Munique, AlemanhaTeaching, learning and education are the main activities related with any higher education institution (HEI), be they public or private. In this context, the balanced scorecard (BSC) is a powerful method that helps the successful application of performance measurements in terms of the efficiency of the programs, processes and people of any educational institution. The key performance indicators (KPI) are crucial indicators to translate the strategy into action, improving the synergies of all the people that contribute to management success. This paper underlines the importance of the BSC model in private, governmental and non-profit organizations highlighting its implementation in a HEI. In order to clarify the main concepts of the application of the BSC method in a HEI, a hypothetical institution (IPX) is considered and a set of strategic objectives are considered in terms of financial, clients, business, learning and growth perspectives. The key parameter indicators and the action plan are defined according to the HEI vision.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Since the discovery of controlled radical polymerization (CRP) in the early nineties (Georges et al., 1993), an ever increasing activity has been focused on the production of polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions and well-de ned architectures (such as block copolymers, stars or brushes). This work describes an experimental research on the nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization (NMRP) of styrene (S) and divinylbenzenes (DVB) in xylene (X) solution at 130 °C, using the stable radical TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl-1-oxy) as mediator and AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) as initiator. Measurements of absolute molecular weights and z-average radius of gyration of the produced copolymers have been performed for different polymerization times using a SEC system with coupled refractive index (RI) and multi-angle laser light scattering (MALLS) detectors.FC
