The Katowice conurbation is the largest traditional economic region in Central Europe and simultaneously a complex settlement system. Yet it faces numerous problems. The article attempts to answer the questions: (1) Does the hitherto relatively uniform economic structure of the Katowice conurbation, based on mining and metallurgy, cause similar intensities of depopulation, demographic ageing and urban shrinkage in 16 neighbouring towns? (2) Is the scope of policies mitigating the effects of these processes similar? The analysis of statistical data for 1999 and 2018 and the development strategies of individual towns shows that both the trends in population changes and the policies adopted towards them differ. The severity of the negative processes varies, with the largest being in Katowice, Sosnowiec and Bytom. Most towns recognize the problem yet consider its solution through selective actions (improvement in housing conditions, development of services or launching new industrial activities). There are also towns that, although seeing problems, marginalize them in their development strategies. Only Czeladź has a multifaceted approach to this problem. The general conclusion shows a need to coordinate the policies of local governments of the entire conurbation for the benefit of multifaceted measures to mitigate depopulation, demographic ageing and urban shrinkage

The article is a continuation of papers published in previous publications referred to the development of the Computer Control and Diagnostic System of Distributed Drives [1, 2, 3]. Authors of the paper focused on the group of frequency inverters coupled by the ProfiBus DP network, elaborated expert system and integrated control and diagnostic blocks placed in the PLC memory, at an angle of possibility of utilization of integrated selfdiagnostic algorithms of frequency inverters to the implementation in the Computer Control and Diagnosis System of Distributed Drives (CCaDSoDD) system. The article includes also an analysis of potential possibilities of utilization of embedded functions and restrictions connected with accepted assumptions

Major Inorganic Ions in Bottled Waters from Several Polish and Romanian Mineral Waters

Mineral waters are important sources of micro- and macroelements for humans, thus its composition ought to be supported with good knowledge on their chemical composition and be controlled systematically. The aim of the study was to analyze the content of common inorganic cations in 9 Romanian and 9 Polish bottled waters, and compare the results of the analyses with the product label’s data. The novelty was the application of new analytical method (atomic emission spectrometry with microwave plasma) for this approach. A short chemometric evaluation of the obtained results was carried out, highlighting in many cases significant differences between the values declared by the producers and the obtained results; possible reasons of this situation are discussed

We develop a theoretical model examining the financial stability policy of a centralbank serving as both the lender of last resort and the regulator of the financialsystem. Our model accommodates the possibility of financial contagion through in-terbank market linkages, and adverse feedback from the financial system to the real economy. We identify the volume of activity in the interbank money market, therelative riskiness of the agents in the financial system, and the probability of sys-temic distress as the key factors infuencing the design of financial stability policy.Furthermore, results of simulating the model indicate that there is a substitutioneffect between reducing the expected scope of a central bank's assistance to an in-stitution in distress and increasing bank capital requirements
