Self-assessment of the competences of early childhood education teachers to conduct lessons of physical activities

Primary school education is the most important stage in a child's development. Therefore, it is very important that the first teacher, who is an authority for a young child, is competent in all areas of education, including the implementation of physical activities.Based on the results of the research presented in this article, an attempt was made to determine the self-assessment of early childhood education teachers regarding their competence to conduct physical education activities. The research was conducted in 2015 during a training course for teachers from the Łódź Province, by the Laboratory of Physical and Health Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Łódź. The research results were prepared on the basis of interviews with 30 teachers working in primary schools in grades 1-3, participating in the trainingThis study presents the answers of the surveyed teachers to 10 questions. Most of the respondents assessed their competences to conduct physical activities quite well. They would be eager to learn in this area if the courses put more emphasis on the practical side, and if they had the opportunity to transfer the acquired skills to their schools

Oceny i ocenianie w edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w teorii i praktyce – dyskurs dydaktyczno-metodyczny na łamach periodyku „Edukacja i Dialog” u schyłku XX w.

Autor w swojej pracy omawia dyskurs dydaktyczno-metodyczny ma łamach periodyku „Edukacja i Dialog”, który to dyskurs poświęcony jest ocenom i ocenianiu w edukacji wczesnoszkolnej. Ocenianiu temu przypisuje się niezwykle istotną rolę, moment rozpoczęcia nauki stawia bowiem dziecko w nowej dla niego sytuacji nieustannego oceniania, oceniania tego, co robi, jak się zachowuje, jakie są rezultaty jego edukacyjnej aktywności. Zarówno sama ocena, jak i proces jej konstruowania, a nawet forma, w jakiej zostanie ona zakomunikowana uczniowi w istotny sposób wpływają na psychikę dziecka, decydują o jego motywacji do nauki, kreują określony wizerunek nauczyciela, kształtują nastawienie do szkoły, a także do procesu nauczania i uczenia się, warunkując tym samym dalszy rozwój edukacyjny dziecka. Już w latach 90. Comparison of circular- and linear-stapled gastrojejunostomy in laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass : a multicenter study

Introduction : Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) is a common, well-established procedure, but no consensus regarding selection of the gastrojejunostomy (GJ) technique has been reached, and standardization of this precise technique is far from being achieved. Aim : To compare circular-stapled and linear-stapled GJ in LRYGB in terms of operative time and postoperative complications. Material and methods: This retrospective case-control study compared the perioperative and postoperative outcomes of LRYGB with a circular-stapled (LRYGB-CS) versus linear-stapled (LRYGB-LS) gastrojejunostomy. All patients, operated on in two academic referral care centers for bariatric surgery, were enrolled from April 2013 to June 2016. 457 patients were included (255 and 202 respectively in the LRYGB-CS and LRYGB-LS groups). After matching the groups for age, sex, body mass index, arterial hypertension, and presence of type 2 diabetes in a 1 : 1 ratio, 99 patients were enrolled in each. Results : The total operative time was longer in the LRYGB-LS group (140 vs. 85 min, p < 0.001). The postoperative hemorrhage and wound infection rates were lower in the LRYGB-LS group (2.1% vs. 10.3%, p = 0.021, and 1.0% vs. 9.3%, p = 0.011). The readmission rates were comparable (8.2% vs. 6.1%, p = 0.593). There was no significant difference in the incidence of gastrojejunostomy leakage, stricture, port-site hernia, or marginal ulcer. Conclusions : Both anastomosis types for LRYGB are safe and have low and comparable risks of postoperative complications. After LRYGB-CS, postoperative bleeding and wound infections are slightly more frequent; however, the operative time is shorter

Resilient biotic response to long-term climate change in the Adriatic Sea

Preserving adaptive capacities of coastal ecosystems, which are currently facing the ongoing climate warming and a multitude of other anthropogenic impacts, requires an understanding of long-term biotic dynamics in the context of major environmental shifts prior to human disturbances. We quantified responses of nearshore mollusk assemblages to long-term climate and sea-level changes using 223 samples (similar to 71,300 specimens) retrieved from latest Quaternary sediment cores of the Adriatic coastal systems. These cores provide a rare chance to study coastal systems that existed during glacial lowstands. The fossil mollusk record indicates that nearshore assemblages of the penultimate interglacial (Late Pleistocene) shifted in their faunal composition during the subsequent ice age, and then reassembled again with the return of interglacial climate in the Holocene. These shifts point to a climate-driven habitat filtering modulated by dispersal processes. The resilient, rather than persistent or stochastic, response of the mollusk assemblages to long-term environmental changes over at least 125 thousand years highlights the historically unprecedented nature of the ongoing anthropogenic stressors (e.g., pollution, eutrophication, bottom trawling, and invasive species) that are currently shifting coastal regions into novel system states far outside the range of natural variability archived in the fossil record
