The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a program based on symbolic communication in reducing challenging behaviors and improving social interaction among among individuals with autism spectrum disorder who have intellectual disability in Jordan. The sample of the study consisteded of (8) participants between (8-15) years, at Autism Specialized Center for Autism in Amman. To achieve the aim of the study, the scale challenging behavior, scale of social interaction, and the training program, were constructed. The validity and reliability of the tools were verified. The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the scores of the participants in the pre and post applications of the Challenge Behavior Scale, and the differences came in favor of the post-test. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences in the scores of the participants in the pre and post-test of the social interaction scale, and the differences came in favor of the post measurement. The study ended with recommendations related to the results

The study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of the interactive e-book in developing the reading comprehension skills among seventh basic grade female students. To achieve the aim of the study, a creative reading comprehension skills (reading fluency, reading flexibility, reading originality, and reading extension) test was prepared. The test consisted of (20) open ended questions. The subjects of the study consisted of (40) seventh basic grade female students from Beit Ids basic school in the first semester 2021/2022, conveniently selected. The subjects randomly divided into two groups, (20) students in the experimental group taught by interactive e- book, and (20) students in the control group taught by conventional method. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (α = 0.05) between the performance means in creative reading comprehension skills, in the favor of the experimental group

Reciprocal Inhibition Post-stroke is Related to Reflex Excitability and Movement Ability

Objective Decreased reciprocal inhibition (RI) of motor neurons may contribute to spasticity after stroke. However, decreased RI is not a uniform observation among stroke survivors, suggesting that this spinal circuit may be influenced by other stroke-related characteristics. The purpose of this study was to measure RI post-stroke and to examine the relationship between RI and other features of stroke. Methods RI was examined in 15 stroke survivors (PAR) and 10 control subjects by quantifying the effect of peroneal nerve stimulation on soleus H-reflex amplitude. The relationship between RI and age, time post-stroke, lesion side, walking velocity, Fugl-Meyer, Ashworth, and Achilles reflex scores was examined. Results RI was absent and replaced by reciprocal facilitation in 10 of 15 PAR individuals. Reciprocal facilitation was associated with low Fugl-Meyer scores and slow walking velocities but not with hyperactive Achilles tendon reflexes. There was no relationship between RI or reciprocal facilitation and time post-stroke, lesion side, or Ashworth score. Conclusions Decreased RI is not a uniform finding post-stroke and is more closely related to walking ability and movement impairment than to spasticity. Significance Phenomena other than decreased RI may contribute to post-stroke spasticity

A New Approach to Climate Change: A Consideration of Ancillary Benefits in Linking Regional Permit Trading Systems

    Get PDF
In this paper, I investigate the economic efficiency of two major approaches to greenhouse gas reduction, and evaluate their respective benefits. First, I trace the path of action and thinking on addressing climate change from a global to a regional level. Second, I consider the major economic benefits of having a globally-integrated greenhouse gas abatement system. Third, I consider the economic benefits of regional approaches to climate change, with a focus on the ancillary benefits from greenhouse gas abatement. I conclude by reviewing the challenges to linking regional abatement systems into a cohesive network, and suggest a potential future approach to an economically-efficient abatement of greenhouse gas emissions
