    [Update of the handicap registry of the Autonomous Province of Trento]There are some good reasons that support our effort to annually update the handicap registry of the Autonomous Province of Trento.The first reason is due to the fact that in our country there is an incomprehensible dispersion of information that feed the numerous existing databases on disability. This dispersion does not allow to have precise information on the actual number of people with disabilities and their characteristics.A second reason is that each functional articulation of the National Healthcare Systems is accountable to the community of what is enacted for the protection of the fundamental right to health, as proclaimed in Article 32 of the Constitution.A third reason is to make statistical data accessible to policy makers and to all the government since they have a responsibility in making strategic decisions and planning the supply of social and health services dedicated to people with disabilities.The fourth and final reason is the uniqueness of the protection given by our country to people with disabilities. But there is a fourth and final reason that supports our obstinacy: we indicate the typicality of the protection given by our country to people with disabilities. Protection that, in absolute contrast with the general logic of our welfare system, is aimed to the right of citizenship of these people (and their families) when they are not yet hospitalized in long-term structures. With the result that this database, beyond the general macro-statistical indicators, provides a clear idea of the needs that disabled people have when they actually live in the home, witnessing the strong commitment exercised by the network of relatives and the difficulties faced by families in the care burden.Between 1992 and 2012 the database managed by the Operative Unit of Legal Medicine, APSS (Azienda provinciale per i Servizi sanitari di Trento), recorded 18,380 people with disabilities who have submitted 23,920 applications designed to obtain the benefits and facilities provided by the Law of 25 February 1992, no. 104.The article presents the macro-statistical indicators database (sex and age) and some other indicators that represent the complexity of the phenomenon, such as trends of applications, types of disabilities, impairments causing disability, benefits and facilities recognized

    Multimessenger Gamma-Ray and Neutrino Coincidence Alerts using HAWC and IceCube sub-threshold Data

    The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) and IceCube observatories, through the Astrophysical Multimessenger Observatory Network (AMON) framework, have developed a multimessenger joint search for extragalactic astrophysical sources. This analysis looks for sources that emit both cosmic neutrinos and gamma rays that are produced in photo-hadronic or hadronic interactions. The AMON system is running continuously, receiving sub-threshold data (i.e. data that is not suited on its own to do astrophysical searches) from HAWC and IceCube, and combining them in real-time. We present here the analysis algorithm, as well as results from archival data collected between June 2015 and August 2018, with a total live-time of 3.0 years. During this period we found two coincident events that have a false alarm rate (FAR) of <1<1 coincidence per year, consistent with the background expectations. The real-time implementation of the analysis in the AMON system began on November 20th, 2019, and issues alerts to the community through the Gamma-ray Coordinates Network with a FAR threshold of <4<4 coincidences per year.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, 3 table

    Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

    A presente pesquisa buscou discutir como a Educação Ambiental (EA) vem sendo trabalhada, no Ensino Fundamental e como os docentes desta escola compreendem e vem inserindo a EA no cotidiano escolar., em uma escola estadual do município de Tangará da Serra/MT, Brasil. Para tanto, realizou-se entrevistas com os professores que fazem parte de um projeto interdisciplinar de EA na escola pesquisada. Verificou-se que o projeto da escola não vem conseguindo alcançar os objetivos propostos por: desconhecimento do mesmo, pelos professores; formação deficiente dos professores, não entendimento da EA como processo de ensino-aprendizagem, falta de recursos didáticos, planejamento inadequado das atividades. A partir dessa constatação, procurou-se debater a impossibilidade de tratar do tema fora do trabalho interdisciplinar, bem como, e principalmente, a importância de um estudo mais aprofundado de EA, vinculando teoria e prática, tanto na formação docente, como em projetos escolares, a fim de fugir do tradicional vínculo “EA e ecologia, lixo e horta”.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació

    The incidence and mortality of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma are growing over time. The management of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma involves a multidisciplinary team, ideally involving experts from surgery, diagnostic imaging, interventional endoscopy, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, geriatric medicine, and palliative care. An adequate staging of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and re-assessment of the tumor after neoadjuvant therapy allows the multidisciplinary team to choose the most appropriate treatment for the patient. This review article discusses advancement in the molecular basis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, diagnostic tools available for staging and tumor response assessment, and management of resectable or borderline resectable pancreatic cancer

    [The register of the handicap of the Autonomous Province of Trento: updating the data as of December 31, 2016] The Authors, examining the Italian welfare system and the contents of Law 104/92 (“Framework Law for assistance, social integration, and rights of the handicapped”), present a statistical analysis of the handicap database in Province of Trento.The Law 104/92 aims, among others, at guaranteeing the respect for human dignity, as well as the rights to freedom and autonomy of persons with disabilities, while promoting their integration in families, schools, work and society; preventing and removing negative conditions that stop the human development, the highest possible level of autonomy and participation in social life, as well as the enjoyment of civil, political and patrimonial rights; achieving a functional and social rehabilitation of people with physical and sensory impairment, while ensuring adequate services and prevention, care and rehabilitation measures, as well as a legal and economic protection; preparing adequate initiatives to overcome marginalization and social exclusion

    Tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1) and pulmonary involvement in COVID-19 pneumonia

    Background: The aim of the study was to longitudinally evaluate the association between MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and chest radiological findings in COVID-19 patients. Methods: COVID-19 patients were evaluated based on their hospital admission (baseline) and three months after hospital discharge (T post) and were stratified into ARDS and non-ARDS groups. As a control group, healthy donors (HD) were enrolled. Results: At the baseline, compared to HD (n = 53), COVID-19 patients (n = 129) showed higher plasma levels of MMP-9 (p &lt; 0.0001) and TIMP-1 (p &lt; 0.0001) and the higher plasma activity of MMP-2 (p &lt; 0.0001) and MMP-9 (p &lt; 0.0001). In the ARDS group, higher plasma levels of MMP-9 (p = 0.0339) and TIMP-1 (p = 0.0044) and the plasma activity of MMP-2 (p = 0.0258) and MMP-9 (p = 0.0021) compared to non-ARDS was observed. A positive correlation between the plasma levels of TIMP-1 and chest computed tomography (CT) score (&amp; rho; = 0.2302, p = 0.0160) was observed. At the T post, a reduction in plasma levels of TIMP-1 (p &lt; 0.0001), whereas an increase in the plasma levels of MMP-9 was observed (p = 0.0088). Conclusions: The positive correlation between TIMP-1 with chest CT scores highlights its potential use as a marker of fibrotic burden. At T post, the increase in plasma levels of MMP-9 and the reduction in plasma levels of TIMP-1 suggested that inflammation and fibrosis resolution were still ongoing

    YAP Activation Is Associated with a Worse Prognosis of Poorly Cohesive Gastric Cancer

    Poorly cohesive (PC) gastric cancer (GC) is extremely aggressive in progression, and there is an urgent need to identify the molecular pathways involved. We hypothesized the essential role of the RhoA–YAP axis in these mechanisms. The present observational multicenter retrospective study included 133 patients with PC GC treated at two dedicated European surgical centers between 2004 and 2014. YAP nuclear localization was measured by immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis of tissue biopsies. The complete absence of nuclear reactivity was coded as negative expression; we considered “any positive” as low nuclear expression (>0% but p = 0.029) in patients with negative YAP (46%, 95% CI 31.1–60.0%) than in the other patients (27%, 17.5–38.1%). Moreover, when controlling for sex, age, pT, pN, and percentage of signet ring cells in the multivariable analysis, YAP expression was a significant predictor of OS (HR 2.03, 95% CI: 1.18–3.51, p = 0.011). Our results provide new insights into the role of the YAP signaling cascade, as its activation was associated with a worse prognosis in PC GC

    PURPOSE: The majority of gastric cancer patients who achieve an initial response to trastuzumab-based regimens develop resistance within 1 year of treatment. This study was aimed at identifying the molecular mechanisms responsible for resistance.EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: A HER2+ trastuzumab sensitive NCI-N87 gastric cancer orthotopic nude mouse model was treated with trastuzumab until resistance emerged. Differentially expressed transcripts between trastuzumab-resistant and sensitive gastric cancer cell lines were annotated for functional interrelatedness by Ingenuity Pathway Analysis software. Immunohistochemical analyses were performed in pre- vs. post-treatment biopsies from gastric cancer patients receiving trastuzumab-based treatments. All statistical tests were two-sided.RESULTS: Four NCI-N87 trastuzumab resistant (N87-TR) cell lines were established. Microarray analysis showed HER2 downregulation, induction of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and indicated fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) as one of the top upregulated genes in N87-TR cell lines. In vitro, N87-TR cell lines demonstrated a higher sensitivity than did trastuzumab-sensitive parental cells to the FGFR3 inhibitor dovitinib, which reduced expression of pAKT, ZEB1, and cell migration. Oral dovitinib significantly (P= 0.0006) reduced tumor burden and prolonged mice survival duration in N87-TR mouse models. A higher expression of FGFR3, phosphorylated AKT, and ZEB1 were observed in biopsies from patients progressing under trastuzumab-based therapies if compared with matched pre-treatment biopsies.CONCLUSIONS: This study identified the FGFR3/AKT axis as an escape pathway responsible for trastuzumab resistance in gastric cancer, thus indicating the inhibition of FGFR3 as a potential strategy to modulate this resistance.Copyright \ua92016, American Association for Cancer Research.Purpose: The majority of gastric cancer patients who achieve an initial response to trastuzumab-based regimens develop resistance within 1 year of treatment.
